still air in the tire.....
see you all before ngawi
The ride round to Ngawi and thru to White Rock was awesome today with some nice gravel & technical trail riding along the coast on the private land Joe had arranged access for and some nice gravel roads!
The new DR was great except for one slight problem - it REALLY could have used a bash plate on it!!!
There was me being very sensible and avaoiding large rocks etc but when I pulled up to stop just before the long shingle/sand climb EddieB noticed oil draining out from under the bike - yep a small gouge was pissing oil out - BUGGER!
Who knows how it happened, I sure didn't hit anything of any size, but Balrog saved the day with a tube of Knead-It! Fortunately looks like it had only just happened as engine oil level was good afterwards, lucky escape for yours truly! So the DR is in Masterton awaiting a weld and the bashplate that I had already planned for it. Damn close call!!!!
Bart & Eddie both got camera happy so am sure the carnage will be reported in piccie form later !!!!
Still at least the waitress in Toppys was lookin darn HOT to cheer me up!
Big thanks to Joe for the organising, Aslan for keeping me company on the gravel as i took it easy on the new bike and unknown Trailwing tyres, Eddie for handling the knead-it job and Balrog for accompanying me to Masterton, to deliver the bike to Joe's ready for its weld & bashplate, and giving me a ride back on the back of the mighty GS - cheers Jim!
Oil leak aside, a great day and good to see a few people I haven't seen for a while!![]()
Cheers, Dave
Hi, I'm back home safe after an awesome day of riding.
Thanks again JunkmanJoe the ride you organised was top knotch. All in all a good bunch of guys a good day (any day is good when out there riding) awesome country to ride on and almost no carnage (sorry Paladin)
Metservice ... " light showers in the evening" yeah right!
Got some pics haven't downloaded them yet will check if they're worth the post![]()
So we're coming along this nice track across private land, a few nice technical parts, right along the coast. It's sunny, waves are crashing on the beach, there's just our friendly group being respectful of the land as we ride and no other soul or vehicle around for miles. I'd stopped for something and Eddieb pulls up next to me and says:
"I (farking) love adventure riding!"
I think that probably summed up the feeling we were all having inside today - there were alot of big smiles on faces!
Go back to just riding on tarmac? NO CHANCE!!!!!![]()
Cheers, Dave
Yep a great day alright, even though with 80km's to home I was soaked through it was a good day.
Here's some pics to start things off.
Dave and his poor bike.
The fix

Thank god you noticed the oil pissing out!![]()
Cheers, Dave
HI all
A Special thanks to land owners, D.O.C
I also want to thank all riders for respection the private land.
the ride was off the wall,, the coast track was a mix, of adventure, off road and trail riding, large shingle slide was a bit tricky to navagate, worse coming back down it.
was a great ride, and a great group of guys.
a small mishap with daves new bike, just one of them things that can happen in the terrain we were at.
will get it in to alloy doctors guys on mon see what can be done.
time was running out for us in afternoon, so second half of ride was canned.
so a quick treck in to southlands hut was decided on.
and then it pissed down,,, and yes i got very wet.... bugger.![]()

Sounds like Jim & I were lucky mate, we didn't get any rain until a little light stuff just as we entered the Eastbourne bays! Was a blast on the back of the GS going over the Rimutaka Hill!
Thanks again for arranging the land access Joe, great track round there, was totally lovin it, oil leek or not!
We should also shout a "thank you" for Frank, the landowner, who wizzed back with spare oil just in case I needed it - very cool of him!
Take care of the Black Beast for me mate!![]()
Cheers, Dave
home safe, wet and frozen at 6.45pm after a magic day - great company - as always on these rides you experience of the vital sensations that remind one that life is precious and for living to the max - what scenery around the Wairarapa Coat and awesome weather till early afternoon - great food, coffee and serviceat Toppys as always
In the hour I've been home have showered - teeth chattering uncontrollably on entering the shower - cooked and eaten dinner (a reheat of my cooking from earlier in the week (batching at the mo) )- had a medicinal whisky, milo laced with honey (no not the lass from Toppys) and am no on to a cleansing beer - at peace with the world and buzzing from a great day.
Gotta love that Sutherlands Hut track and the ride in and out through the Haurangis.
Had a moment leaving Martinborough in the wet when the new Mitas E07 on the rear stepped out in the wet (slippery seal) - JMJ did warn me.
Big thanks to all for your company as always and special thanks to JunkManJoe for organising access through the station from the Lighthouse to White Rock. Farm Manager Frank is the 'salt of the earth' eh - going and fetching oil for Paladin's machine should he have needed it. Ciao (sorry no pics from me - wifey has the camera with her visiting the granddaughter)
PS Paladin - sorry for your misfortune with the hole in your DR's case - as my late Dad would say 'rotten bad luck'
Cheers Aslan![]()
those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind..
Some of the boys heading up a huge scree slope
It's hard to see how big is really was untill you see it in more context
Dave says 'Bugger!'
It was good riding though
But it got really wet at the end
I've dumped all of the 50 odd pics I took in my Windows Live gallery, follow the pics link in my signature. As usual PM me with your email address if you want an original full res copy.
