Someone braved the Chertsey Tavern Nah seriously though it's a good place I know, I can stand at my gate, throw a stone & hit the roof of the Pub.
Like the Bike friendly bit Ed the owner has a nice K100 beemer, but years ago it was more than just bike friendly, especially when the Roadknights used to call in, they'd take over literally, cooking their own meals in the kitchen, swimming in the private pool out back, serving the own drinks etc (there's a picture hanging on the wall taken from the roof of the shed over the road showing at least 200bikes parked around the pub).

    Weekend Ride
Left home this morning went through to ChCh, visited my dad's grave for Father's Day (Had a quick chat with the old bugger ).
Then went on to catch up with an old mate, coaxed him into getting his bike out then took off for a full lap of the Summit Rd from Evan's Pass through to Gebbie's Pass, striking some reasonably clean and quiet roads till reaching the cross-over at the Sign of the Kiwi ( bloody traffic light system for the roadworks there is a curse and it seems half the cages have forgotten what to do at lights or at least an intersection ).

The southern end of the Summit was really quiet for a change & only 2 patches of shingle to contend with which was good. Slipped down Gebbies to the Wheatsheaf for a brew then tookoff back around the bays to Lyttleton having to contend with a few cars and unfortunately at Governer's bay came across a group of bike which had left the Wheatsheaf prior to our departure parked up tending to one of their's who had failed to make a R/H corner and plonked himself and bike into a drain ( though seeing his antics when he left the Wheatsheaf I think it was a self induced error ) The rider was OK & it looked as if the the bike only sustained a broken clutch lever etc.

Once past there it was a fairly methodical run to Lyttleton and back through the tunnel and back to my mate's place for a brew and then made my way through the nutty traffic of the city and back out home along the tedious main south to some country quietness.

Yeah as Jan said, NP to Hawera then back round the SH45 (surf highway). Windy as all hell for a fully faired bike

Battled hard with the wind all day, but was a great ride (as always)...........I think the saying goes..........the worst day riding is better than the best day working?

After our ride I filled up again then rode to Waitara to visit pop & uncle for Fathers day, bloody sore ass though lol

Saturday morning off back whence we'd come for a bit then across to Te Kuiti, down to Awakino, on to Waitara and NP (briefly), quick trip up the mountain for a coffee then off to Stratford for last fuel before we headed off to Whangamomona for the night. This morning came back via Ohura (sheesh - they've seen better times!), back up to Te Kuiti, Otorohanga, Ngaruawahia, and back home to Auckland.

Feels further than that sounds! Lots of awesome roads, huge fun. Tired now...
Yeah that's a great ride, nice work

    WOOT for the Whanga pub

New tyres both ends on Friday, so on Saturday an amble down HW50 to meet Sunhuntin. Very windy on 50 south of OngaOnga, so a wee loop back to Tiko via Waipawa, then home.
On Sunday, sedate escort of SH back to 50/2 intersection. Saw a cop on the way down and knowing their habits on 50, was pleased to pass him (again) early on the way back so the speed could creep up a tad. Chickenstrips down to about 12mm so scrubbing almost done.
    PR2s feel very nice.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I rode the whole 7km to work and then the 7km home. Was an exhilarating ride.

    And alcoholic beverages.

Went over to Masterton with the brother to check progress on the painting of his ’36 Coupe. Mate came with us on his new Busa to look at a fireblade for his boy on the way. Minor issues with wind on a couple of corners on the down side of The Hill.

Back via various easterly back roads to Martinborough where I could have sworn the Buell’s fuel light came on. 140K says the odo, something not right there. Filled it up after coffee and it only took 7.5 litres and then I noticed the low fuel trip hadn’t kicked in. Must have just been sun reflecting off the light. Thinks: that’s around 19k/litre, not too bad considering the conditions.

Roads were dryer than last time I was over here and I’m more confident on the Super Corsa’s. Not as confident as the brother though, his apex speeds were more than I felt comfortable with and I found I was making time on him only coming out of corners.
The mate also commented how surprised he was at the Buell’s acceleration from corners. It’s well down on horsepower compared to them although the torque does mean there’s no wind-up, it’s there immediately. Wonder if it’s also partly my dirt-learned style, early on the gas…

Rained leaving Featherston for The Hill and I dropped well back, still nervous on the Pirelli’s in the wet. Good wee trip, the extent of nice roads over there is surprising, bodes well for future excursions.

A quiet tootle down to the village for a coffee.
Seeing as how Toodyay is on the Perth "circuit", checked out a very nice Ducati Tricolore, with extra bling,(it owes him $51,000 - ) and a delicious 1098S in black. Damn, those new 1098's are nice!
    Then back home for chores.........

Driving around open homes in West Auckland all Saturday morning in the sun had me itching for a ride. Didn't have much time to spare so just went for a quick run out to Huia and back.

Sorry about the crappy quality - I only had my phone on me.

It took all day but I feel much much better about the bike and the road and being on them both.

Was a little sore in the knee that had the stiches and possible cartilage damage (had MRI on it yesterday). The busted arm ached a bit but not once i got off the bike. According to the physio that makes it ok to carry on riding. Wasn't sure about posting that but figure it might be interesting to others to know what happens after a bang up.

Partly cloudy at Caltex Rimutaka and a shower on the hill turned to rain on the other side and finally to fine weather and little wind by mid morning ... and so it stayed for the day. We did the twin water towers behind Martinborough and the long way round to Gladstone. Now I know why everyone loves those roads. Perfect spring colours, great roads, no car. Just typical, perfect New Zealand.

Nice ride this one .. I did it with him!

Putaruru to Hamilton and back, not an exciting road, but still loads of fun just being out being on the bike

A very sedate ride out to Aramoana a couple times, (and did 100 odd metres on gravel on her first ride) and a few small trips round town... out St Kilda (practising riding in Traffic) up to signal hill lookout (showing the difference of going up the hill with twisties and then down a hill with twisties, she soon found that she perfers going up them) and then up to Pine Hill errr for a coffee So for me, not much... I will admit the Firestorm wasn't to happy about the pace, but....

It was Xaria's first ride out after getting her learners and finally deciding on a bike. Basically the small trips were to build her confidance up, show her the difference skills you will need etc etc etc...

Over all she did very well

ME and a few mates (KTM950, Dakar 650, DR650) did a wee run - Friday 0800at Caltex Rimutaka. Ekatahuna for coffee, Mangimaire to saddle of Pahiatua track, then the gravel road along the wind farm to just before the Manawatu Gorge. Then to Marton via Fielding for gas and lunch. Next up the turakina valley (mostly gravel) to Tangiwai, Waiouru, and Taupo for the night. (hot pools at the deBretts, ahhhhhhh)
Next morning, around the top of the lake to Pureora forest park and another long stretch of gravel and up to Te Kuiti via Bennydale. From tere, many back roads to Waitomo and almost to Otoronhanga, then back off the beaten track to Honokiwi and on toward Hauturu, but turning back down to Te Koraha and Piripiri, coming to the coast at Marokapa. Stopped there for a drink then back inland to PioPio for gas and chain lube. Down to Aria and back on the gravel to Ohura, Tatu and on to the forgotton Highway 43 to Whangamomona for the night. Rockin' little pub that one, and there were 14 bikes parked out the back yard.
Sunday morning and back up 43 and across to Taumarunui. Filled up there and saw lots of Cold Kiwi travellers heading home. Down to ratehi via National Park, back onto the gravel to Pipiriki then down the Wanganui River road to Jerusalem and all the little places. Lovely road. Finally out to Wanganui, more gas and the boring bit home. About 1500 kms and the new KLR is well and truly run in now.

(Incidentally Vee Rubber Trail Wolf tyres (4.60x17) don't last very long on either KLRs or DRs. New at the beginning of this trip, now only good for starting fires. Quite good on dry road, ok on the gravel, mediocre in wet clay/mud, when worn, on wet road - interesting going on scary )

it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
