Except the AX100 has a race pattern shift standard. Putting the lever on backwards makes it road pattern. Korea's is on backwards on a road pattern box so it's race pattern...

Here, this photo of an actual RX125 should explain things...

The gear lever points forward (standard) but on the RG bucket, the shift lever is pointing backwards (the RG frame has the footpegs further rearward)

The gearbox shaft rotates clockwise (standard shift = toe up) to shift up, however this translates to toe down (still going clockwise you see) when it's facing the other way.

    Clear as mud, eh?

Hey, looking good. Thanks for this thread by the way -- stopped me from throwing my new-old C50 Cub in the bin when I thought it was so gutless it wouldn't even pull my small arse downhill. Cubs have race-pattern shift too! Explains why I couldn't find neutral either.

Nah neutral is easy. Put it into 1st then push the lever with your heel which will select another neutral.

Then hold the throttle open for about 4 seconds until the revs build up & take your foot off the lever.

    Who says cubs can't wheelie?!
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.

That's exactly what I've been doing -- unintentionally. Idle speed too high, gearchange heavy, clutch maladjusted. Have to hold on rear brake while I shift into first otherwise it's a wheelie every time

First Ride Report - 29 June 08 Slipway

Well, after watching the weather report in the vain hope things would get better - the weather conditions actually got worse.
Up to 130kmph wind warnings, torrential downpours and flooding - I took my HTFU juice, protected the RG/RX's open carbie with some sheets of plastic and had the battery charged just in time to meet Skunk and the boys with the super-trailer to take us up the back of the wind turbine to Bucket Nirvana - which was more like bucket hell given the conditions.

Got to the track and hooked up the battery (total loss ignition) and unwittingly shorted it! The insulation around the wires started smoking and I thought my day was over before it had begun - but luckily after pulling the plug and sorting it, the bucket got started.

Practice was tentative, given the waist-high water and challenging freshwater fish for the best line - I was the only squid out there.
In fact, I think I was the first to throw it down at the carpark end - lost the front and earned me the bum-pants.

Two laps later, I lost the clutch altogether and spent the rest of the day raping the gearbox and starting from the carpark - which was fine as long as I was upright and moving, except that didn't last long either:

Race one and I was all cockyness and cheek - because I had no clutch, I started from the carpark but was catching up the group after about a lap. Overtook 1, 2, 3 riders... 'wow, this thing's grea~' ...and dropped it at the far end - this time lost the rear gassing it up too hard too early. Sullenly watching everyone I passed pass me back and then, adding insult to injury, lapping me as I tried to bump start without clutch again...

Rest of the day was more of the same - in between me grappling with the reverse shift pattern and wringing the poor engine in the regions of 15,000rpm.

All in all, learnt a heck of a lot of lessons but the most important one: go fast = good, go too fast and fall off = not good; you lose.

See you at the next meet (hopefully a little dryer)

That'll be a long while off - I have much to learn...
Maybe one day I'll be a 'bucket Jedi'
