OK you crazy bastards - this is just mad enough to appeal to my sense of adventure (even if there's no gravel!)
Not sure I want to start and finish in ChCh though - sooo - a plan is fermenting.

By my rough reckonings from looking at your map and the times you have on it, you should be around Fox/ Franz around 11 hours after you start????

If I've got that bit right , and assuming you get away around 6am then you'll be there around 6-8 pm depending on stops etc.
If I could interest one or more other similarly crazy minded KB'rs from around here, maybe we could meet you at Fox or Franz, ride back with you to Omarama, then we;ll head home from there. I know that means we would have to ride South Westland and the Haast Pass twice in one day but in the interests of KB camaraderie that is a cross we are willing to bare - if we had to do the Lindis twice as well we might just be able to cope with that too!!
(Of course we might get really sneaky and ride up the day before so we get a sleep in !!!)

And yes it would be cut down so it is just higher than the instruments.

And the off cut will be added to her legs.

Still on as far I'm concerned. TBH I haven't given a great deal of thought apart that I'll need a new pair of shoes for the trip. The Duc has had its major service, the oil leak has been fixed, all good to go.

Google maps has Chch to Fox at 654km (http://tinyurl.com/28e6vg) - I'd say 8-9 hours...

New shoes on my horse today, and I dont evn think she kicked when they nailed them on!!!!

An oil transfusion is all that is needed. And a bit of a run to make sure nothing leaks out or falls off.

A sure hike for sure. The horse is going to be looking forward to the watering hole stops as much as I will be. And as long as I dont get any flu's or any other brain slowing ills, I am in like Flyn!!

    Question

Hi you lot, just wanted to hear about the big block ride?
How long did the ride take? and how many kms was it? I would very much like to see the fox area and was thinking about doing this ride but more likely over two days so was just after ideas about it the ride eg places to must look at and not, etc.

The ride itself was wicked, perfect weather both sides of the hill, was about 670km in the end, and tho think that would have been only half of the full block. I think a full on training program would have to be in force to pull off the big one.

The coastline is awesoem from Wesport through Grey'.
No doubt it would be something to do the big one, and I guess it would be big in itself if even split into a two day jaunt.

Some Pictures from the ride can be seen through the link to my albums below. in my sig'
