    Northern Canterbury Adv Rideouts

Seems a thread like this is the "cool" thing to do at the moment so heres one for the northern end of Canterbury i.e. Ashvagas ish north. Pleanty of places that are worth another visit so if you are keen post it up here with a date, meeting time and place.

    Cheers R

You pick the cosiest sounding meeting places... under the old bridge... aren't we supposed to pose outside cafes?

Seriously, as per PM I will decide on the day. Probably bring the TT, methinks. XLR has no front brakes at present El Scooto, you tempted to bring your wee wasp?

Not this time. Got her fixed up though, bent push rod for the clutch. Straightened it out and better that ever. Am going to make a guide for the chain so hopefully it won't come off so easy.

Taking the big bike so I can play with the others. (Does that sound dodgy?)

I'd take the Transalp, but in a moment of weakness I binned it last time out there, and Mrs B grumped at me. It's f***in' slippery on the main tracks at the moment. That reminds me, the Sth Side was closed for logging about 5km W of the intake when Casualty and I rode up there two weekend ago. I s'pose we can ride around the closed off area.....

    Whats this, an actual ride?
Are we gravel only or do I need a road registered bike?

Alf and I were up there on Monday having a blast and road was still closed then but it wasn't hard to go around it along the river flats.

See Ryan's second post. You bring the bike, I'll bring the spark plug.

We have to get across the gorge bridge at the top i.e. about 3km of road .......

I find it's a lot easier navigating traveling west on the south bank.
There are ways around everything and you can go all the way between the gorge and Coutts Island, Belfast without hitting the seal or risking anything on a non plated bike on the South side.
I don't consider there to be anything to worry about except the short sealed bit actually crossing the gorge bridge on the north bank either. In fact no, I'm not actually concerned about that bit.

The bit from the Peg in Belfast to the other side of the Old Waimak bridge is my only concern for non plated bikes.

Don't know If I'm in or not yet, but would like to go... on the CRF. I would be inclined to park up at Coutts Island maybe and somehow sneak the bike to the meeting place, then ride the rest of the lop back to collect the Van again. Never tried that loop in one go before on the CRF, wonder if it has the range.

Surely it must do? It's not that far!
