    Christchurch-Canty Rides Adventure Ride 26/02/2006

1st Annual Adventure Ride run by Canterbury Rides Motorcycles in Ferry Road.
    Basically:
    Entry costs $20 per bike.
    It's on Sunday 26 February.
Meeting at the shop in Ferry Road at 8am for 9am departure.
Finishes approx 4pm in Little River.
All bikes must be road legal.
You need one of those rolling route sheet click clack box things.
Read the rest in the entry form attachment.

It's a rough copy of the entry because scanner gave up so i used the trusty cybershot instead.
That's my story and i'm sticking to it.

Hopefully I can make it to this, looks good. I'd better get a click clack box made this week - off to payless plastics tomorrow.

Yep that's the one all right.
And you got a flyer of it as well.
Well done, I just got a rough verbal about it.
    And would have arrived late.

This may help you make your click clack route map holder.

Excellent, thanks for the help guys. Just got to get the click clack box now, I should have all the other bits and pieces in the shed to make it up.

The water pump in the washing machine appears to have shit itself tonight, so it's surgery on that tomorrow then get the box made.

Was in at Rides today & paid my entry ... bring it on. The ride happens rain/hail/snow or sunshine ... lets hope the latter.
... you know it's a bit windy when you get passed by your own dust ...

Does your bike need to be able to maintain open road speeds? I can only sit on about 90, as it is a 125.

Hmm, bikes must be road legal? Do they check if they have a wof, mines expired, I'm going to try and get onto that this week though.

The ride isn't really done as a group, you follow the directions on the route sheet you will be given and can do it at your own pace, so 90 wont be problem. I doubt they will be checking for WOF's etc, the road legal bit is mainly there to advise that pure off road bikes can't participate due to the road sections involved.

I imagine that there will be 4wd tracks, farmers tracks, that sort of thing involved since clay tracks are mentioned, and if the conditions are a bit wet then you will struggle with the tyres you currently have on. If can put some tyres on with some more tread on them, even pick up 2nd hand trials tires for the ride your bike will be fine.

Ideally you want to mount a box on the bike for the route sheet too. Have a look at the link Lemans posted, and Canterbury Rides have a box sitting on their counter if you want to see how it's done.

Well I'm damn sure I wouldn't be taking a KR or a TZR on this ride. Not enough ground clearance, not enough suspension travel, suspension too hard, wrong tyres, and probably not a ble to get off road tyres on. They would probably manage the trip depending on conditions, but it wouldn't be fun, and the bikes could get damaged.

The KR and TZR are basically road race bikes, whereas the CG, although still a road bike, is more general purpose than that. You will have more ground clearance, probably more suspension travel, and a better riding position for this sort of thing. Bring the CG if you really want to, but leave the KR and TZR behind.

Once again, you could, but I wouldn't want to. The entry form says there are "alternative by-passes for the technical challenges", so you may get away with it. The route wont be known untill on the day, so it's all just a guess. Your best bet would be to go and have a chat to them in the shop about the suitability of the various bikes you're suggesting, I don't expect they'll tell you the route, but at least they know the terrain that will be covered.

Hmm, looks like I won't be going as the dude said you'd wreck the sports bikes if you went on them, you could do it, but it would fuck them.

Don't really want to ride by myself, would rather do it with a buddy, so I'll leave it I think.
