Coro Loop Ride - Sat 11/03/2006

To mark the end of a great summer I thought it appropriate to organise one more blast around the Loop before the weather changes dramatically. Anyone is welcome to join me but I'd prefer to ride with more serious experienced riders!

Meet: Autobahn, Papakura.
Time: 8.30am, leaving 9.00am sharp.
Destination: Coromandel Peninnsula, riding anti-clockwise and having lunch at either Whitianga or Coromandel townships. Will be stopping at Kopu S/Stn at approx. 10.15am to refuel and meet any other riders from the Waikato/Tauranga who wish to join us.
Pace: Medium to fast riders preferred.

Golden Rule for this ride:
When you come to an intersection or turnoff, if there is no-one behind you please stop until the next rider comes into your sights, that way he'll know which way to turn and won't get lost!

The last person through must be the volunteer TEC (tail end charlie) who will remain at the back of the entire group until the regrouping points. There will be about 3 regrouping points/locations for the Ak crew going down to Kopu, and only 2 regrouping points on the actual Loop. This rule more applies to the Ak-Kopu journey though, as the Coro Loop is basically one continuous road with few turnoffs...

Also, please make sure that you gas up at Papakura before 9am, and/or gas up at Kopu as soon as we arrive there, so we are not held up waiting.

The Colville Connection mountain bike race is on and I need to get out in the boat and catch some snaps and maybe kings.

Got withdrawl symptoms from not doin any fishing lately.

Thanks FS. Do you know if this mountain bike race is happening close to the main Loop road or not? I'd hate to give a whole lot of lycra wearing cyclists a fright if we come upon them suddenly!

Nah your safe mate, its nowhere near the loop. Race starts in Colville and goes up the east coast (all gravel road) across via the Moehau and down the west coast and back down to Colville. The whole race is on gravel and dirt tracks.

It only those pansie road cyclists that wear the lycra, us mountain bikers get to wear body armour and other "cool" apparel

bout 15 min out of Paeroa?

Are ya's stopping at the Coroglen Pub?? Its probably the best stop on the whole loop...except Whangamata but you guys arent going that way are yas?

Bit hard going Whangas way when you do the Loop anti-clockwise...and a stop at Coroglen can always be arranged! Does your attendance rely on this one condition does it Korn?

Holy smokes, that happened to me too!

I'm keen as Zedman, Saturday daytime is looking free at the moment, hopefully nothing will come up.

Could be a contributing factor

... that and the fact the Gixxer and the 2 VTR's mysteriously run off the road and into the car park at that place

Was Coro your only stop on the trip... it would be nice to have 2
