    Waikato Today (3/9/06)

    A bit of a rant, but what the hey? Had a great ride today, and want to share it.

    We (me and my GF on her vtr250 "L" plate attached) left Papakura at about 11 on a mission to Raglan (to meet her parents for a fathers day lunch).

    She hasn't had much time in the saddle and as such, responsibly sits on 80-90 kph. Considering this, we decided to go a more indirect and less public route, good choice!

    The route we took, way down, was;

    Out through Drury, to Pukekohe, Tuakau, Glen Murray turning off(?) just after Dunmore (staying on SH22, hence the ? with turn off), down into Raglan (lunch stop).

    Return:

    Raglan, Whatawhata, Ngaruawahia (back road ?), Huntly (again back road running next to river), wrong turn at Huntly put us at Rotongaro, then Rangiriri, up SH1, Drury, Paps.

    Sorry I don't know the names of the roads, and cant scan a map at home (could do from work if anyone interested), but wow, what a cool ride.

    Must have passed 20 or so other bikes, including an apparent Learner friendly group near Glen Murray (had a guy in the group riding a 175 scooter).

    The day and the ride, even including our unplanned detour, was wicked!

    Nice roads (except 2 patches of metal just out side of Raglan on SH22, nothing major), and mostly, without being a complete hoon, was not put out by the reduced speed (she corners well).

    So, a great day, a great ride, and probably nothing new to most of you, but, well worth a post on the off chance someone else didn't know about it.

    Rock on, and Ride Safe!

    PS. No shame in riding slow as a learner, and that means learning to ride, and learning the road. There is shame in having a stupid bin. Put your L on, and don't be afraid to be last in the race to a cofin.

    Nice one, nice one! I'll love to try that route out myself - on Friday I did the SH22 route out to Port Waikato and into the back blocks beyond (did the back route via Papakura, Drury, Pukekohe thru to Tuaku and I lose track of the weird and wonderful names after that!)

    Plenty of twisties and rough roads! Stopped out in the middle of nowhere where there was a walkers bridge closed to the public next to a rest area in a gorge area...will have to go back and go past it next time! Had to turn back around 5.30pm as fading daylight.

    Good to hear about rides out!

    Rant, Rave, anything that leaves my lips (or finger tips) is one or the other, I took a stab at guessing which.
