Put in a bit of effort and you'll be able to easily answer your questions.
Try using google and search specs and compare - they're quite different bikes, for one the ZZR is a twin that is more of an upright tourer, whereas the ZXR has a more aggressive seating position as well as a much higher revving inline four engine.
Either would be fine for learner, though I'd say it would take you longer to outgrow a ZXR. But again depends on what you're looking for in a bike.
Prices? Overpriced, more so for the ZXR I would imagine since they're more in demand. But if you look around you could be up a half decent one for 3.5k maybe. I'm passed the 250 restriction days, and glad to be so, the market is shit.
yea i know a decent cbr 250 easily goes above 4.5k or nsr 250 around 4k. i have seen decent 400s even 600s for only a few k more for same modles as 250 like cbr400s can even get same price as 250s![]()

I should really let you search around for your answer yourself but hell I just woke up and I'm feeling nice...
ZZR250 are inline twin engines which do not have as much grunt as ZXR250 and it's more made for touring etc... It has more comfortable sitting position, the pegs are lower so your legs aren't cramped up and it's a bit heavier, mind you it does about 155-160km/hr flat out but it takes ages to get there. It's fairly comfortable crusing around 120-130km/hr though and overtaking up to 140-145 is ok, (not that I've done this myself of course....) I just did a trip up to auckland and back on my 1994 ZZR250 last weekend and it was a fairly comfortable ride (MMMmmm heated grips)
ZXR250 are screaming inline four machines which I hear has top speed around 180 and over. they're fast and they're more race style machines which have high pegs and cramped sitting position to make you go faster (you will go faster since you'd want to get to your destination and stretch...) it has better ground clearance, etc, etc and is shit loads more fun I hear... but I sat on one when I was looking for a 250 and I decided there's no way I'm going up to auckland sitting on that thing for 6 hours....
on the ZZR250 the problem with lower pegs are the decreased ground clearance and onece you start having some fun with the bike and put a decent rubber on it, you'll find that you're scraping the stupid pegs around on corners which for the first few times can be very disturbing.
I picked mine for 5200 from a dealer but I think I paid too much. you should really look at trade me for prices, I think around 4000 for ZZR depending on condition and km travelled, and ZXR can be anywhere between 3500 at really really thrashed condition to 5000 and upwards in good condition.

Have you tried something like a RG or KR150 two stroke?
I'll have one for sale soon (in NP) that I brought as a fixer-up-a.
It had a broken oil pump gear (very unusual) which caused seizure.
I found the lower end to be stuffed, so have replace the whole lower motor/gearbox with a good spare one I had.
I have also Just put a NEW Piston/Rings kit in it. And will be running the motor in tomorrow if fine. (has 0.6 Kms on the new piston as of today)

people recomend 4 strokes to me coz i just learning and no powerband. also dont have to get the engine done as much.
only making 120 bucks a week and got to pay 800 buxks back 2 mumso i prob be looking in the market in the holidays coz can work more and be rich

The reason 4 strokes are better for learners is not because of the "powerband" (I suggest searching for the meaning of that) but rather because they are a lot harder for the average noob to maintain, and just generally aren't as reliable as a good 4 stroke. An RG150 will be putting out less power than the CBR250 at the peak of it's "powerband" (damn it, I hate that term... it's so misunderstood).
what i mean is the power delivery of a for stroke is more linear meaning its more of a straight steady increse but two strokes (powerband) is were the power is deliverd normaily untill the higher reves and increses at a higher rate than before. so not a smooth power delivery.

For me the choice is easy, a ZXR250, they look far more staunch than the zzr and if you are so inclined you can do them up to look awesome. I bought mine for $4k two months ago and rode it from Auckland to Palmerston with out any real discomfort. Be weary however as they are imports they are likely to have had the odometer reading tampered with, a sure indication on this is when the numbers dont sit evenly in a row. That said they seem to be pretty reliable engine wise, mine has dome over 60,000ks and runs fine. As with all engines as long as you drop the oil every 5,000 clicks and the filter every second oil change they run for ever.
I quite like my ZZR, its uber-comfy.
As for it taking ages to get to 160, I disagree. It might take ages compared to say a MV F4 750, but it's so much quicker than any car I've ever had.
Anyone know how to adjust a chain and keen to show me?
wouldnt reccomend a ZZR for anyone other than learners, just hasent got the power to keep you satisfied!

What year is your ZZR bobsmith?
Mines a 1992 model, and apparently has 40hp. The later ones all have less than that, around 35hp if I remember right.
That might explain why you think yours is lacking compared to the CBR
yeah mine is 1994 which I believe is 35hp, that's 10hp less than my 45hp 1989 cbr which translates to my cbr having 29% more power which is very significant. not only that cbr feels much lighter too (I'm not sure about the actual weight though)
and MMMmmm I decided that I really ike the sound of the inline four compared to the twin...
[edit] - and it pulls fairly well up to about 160 and tops out about 180 or so, which is MUCH more than what I can say for the zzr which tops out at about 160 and takes a while to get there. oh did I mention cbr is so much smoother at lower revs too?
