    Motobob

As some of you know, Paul (Motobob) was involved in an accident while racing at Pukekohe yesterday (Sunday November 26th). As he was coming over the hill onto the front straight something happened to cause him to highside into the padded armco. Unfortunately his bike then ploughed into him as well. As a result of the accident, Paul has sustained multiple injuries mainly to his chest and spine - in particular his 3rd and 4th vertabrae have shattered through his spinal cord. Although the prognosis is not 100% certain, it is unlikely he will walk again. He does have full use of his arms and shoulders.

Paul is stable in the Intensive Care Unit at Auckland Hospital and is talking and knows everything that has happened - we wrote this post together. He is not up to visitors and won't be for a while, but he reckons he might be keen for plenty once we get him through the first few weeks of recovery. Obviously it will be a long hard road from here but Paul really appreciates all the thoughts and well wishes people have sent over the past 24 hours.

The biggest smile was when I told him he did a 1.04.30 lap before he crashed - his fastest lap ever by over a second - he was riding beautifullly. Paul will never race a motorbike again but if you can believe it he is already talking about wheelchair racing and the modifications he intends to do to his wheelchair.

Please, if you have any questions, PM me and I will try and reply when I can.

I know him and he is the reason I managed to get my (first) knee down at Taupo, the tips he gave me will always be cherished. IMO it is ppl with his attitude and personality that makes KB such an awesome community.

Really gutted to hear this, Paul.
What can I say - just work through your recuperation and I hope everything goes as well as it possibly can in the future.

As Jimmy said - shook me up a little more than I would've thought...
