It is with a saddened heart I have to report that our freedom to go for a blat now and then has been taken away from us. I'm a broken man. A shell of my former self. I'm going to book myself in for therapy and ask for the strongest & fastest anti-depressant drugs.
Why? The Police have won. They've swamped the roads with what seems like a HP for every 2km of road in NZ.
Game over. The funs over, the other team won. Everybody go home and wait for boredom to consume us.![]()
It just seems even cruising the motorway at anything between an innocent 110-115kph now and SLAM! It's as if the HP materialise out of the seal itself!
Just been out in the car for a short trip and saw two muftis. It gets worse, it seems the driver of the new black Falcon mufti with chrome mags, tow bar, spoilers, lives in my suburb! I feel claustrophobic, like being trapped in a nightmare where you just can't get away from the bogey man. Ever turn, there he is, radar/laser at the ready. The dog handler stopped me recently and nearer booked me.![]()
Not that many years ago we would scream up the Kaitokes to the base of the hill. But now. I'm terrified if I go above 108kph. I break out in shakes and a cold sweat. Where have all the good times gone (screams in Pink Floyd tone).
I'm not talking about irresponsible racing through populated suburbs and the like. I'm talking about cruising an open road or motorway with stuff all traffic, good visibility at 120kph (wasn't considered wreckless that long ago) that sort of stuff. Although I confess I'm all for a bit of full on speeding in selected places, but this now has lost the thrill because of the 'Coppa-phobia' I'm suffering from. Can I claim on ACC for this suffering caused by the Govt?
Edit- if you think this is the bitter ramblings of someone nearing a full house of demerits..that'll be right.
