    Grovelling to the Courts

Hey here is my letter explaining my actions to the courts, is this set in the formal tone? And would you make any changes to the letter?

If you think this is inaproreate, I will remove it.

RE: Traffic offence, exceeding speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour.

    Dear Registrar Of this court,

I am writing to plead guilty to the charge of exceeding the speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour on the edit. I realize that there is no valid excuse for exceeding the speed limit and I am truly ashamed of my actions on the edit. I was not paying attention to my speed and I did exceed the posted limit of 100 kilometers per hour at approximately 23:33 hrs. I believe Constable edit was the officer who pulled me over and helped me get my motorcycle home.

I would like the courts to consider the fact that I have co-operated with the police at every chance and I applaud the police for doing such a good work even though I suspect it is often a thankless job. I would also like the courts to take into consideration that I have already lost my license for the mandatory 28 days, a punishment that is fair and a very good reminder to be careful on the roads. I would like the courts to take into consideration of the fact that the 50 demerits I am likely to get with added punishment of the fine will be more than enough reminder to be alert and aware of my speed and conditions of those around me. I would also like the courts to take into consideration the conditions at the time of the infringement, It was late at night the road was very empty and my speed had just creped up, Constable Edit determined that my riding was not putting anyone other than myself at a great risk and did not charge me with a more serious charge of dangerous driving or dangerous speed. He was very fair and just in his judgment of this case.

I also want this issue to go through the court system as quickly and hassle free as possible as I’m sure there are a lot more urgent matters at hand that a speeding infringement.
I would like the courts to understand that I have realized that my actions were unacceptable I will slow down as life is not a race.

I would like to thank the courts for dealing with this carefully and justfully.

    Yours faithfully,
    Renegade

In my best lawmans inner monologue - "What, he doesn't consider speeding an urgent matter? Like hell we'll be nice to him".

    Just a possible interpretation.......

Here's how I see it... you've basically admitted you were not concentrating on your riding... if you can't keep an eye on your speed how can you spot anything else.

If they let you off your speeding ticket they should take your license away for not being able to ride.

    Also...

As has been shown many many times, you can write all the letters you want, won't do you any good, the courts just ignore them.

I think this should be "crept", if you mean creep in the past tense. Good luck!

Actually my spelling of kilometers and judgment are correct. The metre is the uk version the ter is the usa version, both of wich are fine in nz. Judgment is the correct nz spelling.

But thanks anyways, english is my 1st language, but I was never taught it.

In which case, if you're not being charged with dangerous, can't you just pay the fine?

    Hi RM,
No offence but you sound like you are whining and your spelling and grammar are not good.
Just state the facts, plead guilty and ask for the court to go easy on you. KISS principle applies. (keep it simple stupid)

    Eg:
In regard to Infringement notice 123123123
Charge: exceeding speed limit of 100kmh.
I am writing to plead guilty to the charge of exceeding the speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour on the date.
I have no suitable excuse or reason for my actions and accept that I was completely in the wrong.
In deciding on my punishment I would greatly appreciate the court considering the following points.
    1. The officer who issued the ticket acknowledged that I was not presenting any danger to anyone other than myself.
    2. I have already lost my licence for the mandatory 28 days.
    3. The road conditions were dry and clear, traffic was very light.
    4. I have cooperated at all times with the police.
    5. I have learned my lesson and will at all times in future ride to the legal limits and conditions.

    Thanking you in advance
    Yours sincerely
    Dickheadonabike.

Or something like that, good luck anyway

I'd go with that, nobody likes reading through pages of bollocks (my own posts not withstanding), especially when you're asking them to go easy on you. The above sounds much more professional and concise, and doesn't sound like you're whinging.

Send a copy to the Police Prosecutions Office as well, this way you can ensure that both of them get the letter.
