Wellington 31 March Cruisy Ride Report

Well 0900hrs rolled around this morning and it was a light drizzle at Rimutex.
Mickdastardly turned up on the mighty SR250, we both filled up the petrol tanks on our bikes then decided that we would give the hill a miss, i had read buckbucks post that maybe 1100hrs would be better and we decided he was right.

So Mickdastardly and I headed up SH2 to the Te Marua shop then proceeded around the back to Plateau, Maymorn, Mangaroa then back over Wallaceville Hill.
We then headed via the back roads to Silverstream then went up Blue Mountains Road, through Whitemans Valley and back to Wallaceville Hill and back into Upper Hutt.

So this had wasted an hour and we quite enjoyed it even though it was pretty terrible and wet over in the Whitemans Valley.
Quick cuppa at Mickdastardlys and then back up to Rimutex to wait for BuckBuckNo1.

Whilst up there the sun came out and the roads started drying out, damn its hot at Rimutex with cordura on.
First to show up is SteveDee then followed by BuckBuckNo1.
We hummed and harred about taking on the takas with the wind and slippery road. SteveDee decided that the gym was calling him so he left in a flash and we decided to head to Paekakariki and then the Sandbar.
Started up the bikes and then we all agreed - Rimutakas here we come.

BuckBuck led the way, Mickdastardly next and then me at the rear. Mickdastardly has been riding for about 3 weeks and never been over the Takas and never at 100km/hr.
BuckBuck let Mick take the lead from Kaitoke Gardens and off we went.

Was rather frightening for me watching Mick racing into the corners, a couple he looked to fast for but managed to make it around. (after the whole ride he said he felt great at that speed but knew he over cooked a couple of corners).

We stopped at the summit and met up with Howie - Paul. He was keen to accompany us out to Martinborough. Still looked crappy to the south but to the north was the sun baked Wairarapa.
We headed off to Geatherston with BuckBuck in the lead, Mick followed him then me and then Howie.

Was cruisy ride down for us and Howie did a great job of keeping a 4WD and Trailer behind him and no room to pass. From my mirrors i could see that Howie had the 4WD right up his arse and the idiot even attempted to pass him on the shoulder. I joked with Howie about it and he said "You get used to it, its real easy to keep them from passing".
We stopped at Featherston and then i took the lead on our way to Martinborough. Lovely ride to Martinborough, never get tired of seeing big open fields.

At Martinborough we stopped at the Flying fish for a cuppa. Whilst stopped BuckBuck had noticed that the clip that holds his visor onto the helmet had gone on the left side so some sticky tape was used to hold it onto the helmet until we could get back to Featherston to look for it. Over the cuppa we talked about heading out towards Gladstone, then to loop back to Martinborough. So Howie was the most knowledgeable of the area so he led us out. Man what an awesome area and some lovely sweeping corners that you could go nuts on. Somewhere out in the wops we came across a lovely yellow suzuki heading the other way - he was flying along. I took the lead and managed to miss the tunr back to Martinborough and we ended up in Carterton. Another brief stop to work out which turn i had missed and the general talking of shit then we decided to head down SH2 to Featherston to look for the piece of helmet that BuckBuck had lost. It was nowhere to be found.

Back onto the bikes and off up to the summit of the takas again. Buckbuck led and Mick was next then Howie then me, as we went Howie decided he was gonna go off at his own pace so he was gone - we met him again at the summit and he was well into his ciggy by then. whilst at the summit along came the nice yellow suzuki and introduced himself to us - Ronin. We talked shit again and Mick advised me that he felt his bike just wasnt up to the group standard LOL. I gave him shit about it then we took off headed for home.

In the door around 5pm - so was a good days outing, 0900hrs - 1700hrs, dont know where the time went but had a good day and was great to meet Howie and Ronin. Always a pleasure to ride with BuckBuck (im sure hes the most famous KBer around) and Mickdastardly said he absolutely loved the long ride and that his confidence is boosted after doing highway speeds and doing the takas corners. Personally i thought he did superb and if he can keep focused and keep learning then he will become a great rider.

Well thats it folks - till next time - oh and Jim2, i tried to convince the group to go back via the backroads but was overuled and made to go droning down SH2 to Featherston.

Why do people do THAT? Why?

Great write up Bull. YOu'll be pleased to note that of the 4 bikes I saw yesterday, 2 were Hyosung GT250Rs.
