    Adventure riding to rallies

Thought it might be useful to have a thread in here with links to upcoming rallies that someone has a cunning Adventure riding plan for.

Ist good rally of the season is th Pissed Penguin at Kaka Point on the coast out from Balclutha. We're planning a gravel road blast from my place leaving around 9am on the Sat morning (15th Sept). The rest of the info is in this thread

I can provide a sleeping spot for a few if that works in with your travels - PM me nearer the time.

    Adventure ride to the Penguin

The Pissed Penguin thread seems to have turned to shit thanks to a couple of CHCH members - one of whom used to be part of the Adv Riding fratenity but has not very Sensibly sold his soul to some Italian bit with 2 big pots!!! - now let me guess I wonder who that could be????

Anyway its a bit full of shit for organising anything.
As stated earlier I have a gravel ride planned for the Sat morning from my place down to the Rally site, leaving here about 9am
So far I have keen interest or commitment from Jantar, Oldrider, TimG, XF650, RedKL650, MBazza, and (sorry mate) a new member from ChCh direction who rides a BMW and who's handle just escapes me at the moment (since made himself known again - be good to meet you Shrek Lone rider) and possibly a Dunedin mate who is thinking of getting an adventure bike as well.
    Anyone else interested?
The rally was a really good one last year and they have it well set up to cope with most things the climate can do - the band and dancing area plus bar and some food stalls are all under one marquee complex and outside this area are several bonfires in big drums.
Its right on the coast so you can get a bit of coastal shit come in at night but the set up they have stops that being a problem.
The group ride out is quite good fun - leaves the site at around 1pm and last time visited a couple of pubs and the Garvan boutique restaurant. The ride out to the Nugget POint lighthouse is an absolute must if you've never been there (take binoculars - the walking track is high above the surf and theres heaps of seals breed in the rocks below you).
I'll have a few spare beds to throw a sleeping bag on for Friday night, although some spots have been reserved already. PM me if interested.
Its a 45-55 minute ride from Dunedin to here for anyone staying there, or about 15min from Milton if you use the Backpackers down there

My adventure began this afternoon. I had to tell Stromfrau that we couldn't go to the Ballet on Sept 15th because it clashed with the rally.

So did the "we" become two lots of "I"s - or are you both rallying? We could always arrange a spot on the dance floor for You and Stromfrau to do a bit of Swan Lake whilst wearing full leathers???? - or would that result in a rendition of "the Nut Cracker Suite"?

I agree, how dare they talk shit over there, they could at least wait until they get to the rally

But just remember how very carefully you had to ride in there and the thoughts going through your mind if you lost your balance and caused about $3500 damage to all that shiny plastic fairing

Ruralman, Is there a back way to your place from Mahinerangi without having to go all the way to Waitahuna?
