    38YPQ, use your fucking mirrors

You, sir, on your GN250, were filtering nicely southbound over the harbour bridge today, right up until you swerved in front of a truck to move from lane 2 to filtering-lane 3A, appearing not to notice that I was barrelling up 3A right behind you.

Before entering a filtering lane, particularly when cutting in front of a truck, stop and check your mirrors for other motorcyclists coming up behind you, particularly at reasonable pace. If I hadn't seen you coming from the other side of the truck, I wouldn't have grabbed the brakes, and we could have gone down in a charming little Suzuki tangle.

You need to work on your situational awareness. It's almost always a bad idea to make such abrupt maneuvers when filtering. Take an extra second or two and scope things out before diving into gaps. You're not the only bike on the road.

    Rant over.

Had a big giant cruiser thing with panniers weave at me on Friday night on the way home from work. I was ready for him because I "knew" he'd do it and steered around. He had no idea I was there and just lurched into the space I was occupying.

There's usually no point shouting though because they either get it and will be more careful in future, or they think it is their inalienable right to hold everyone up. I've often seen posted on KB, 'It is the person behind who is responsible for making a pass stick" - On the racetrack definitely. On the road you have a responsibility to share. Simple concept, usually drummed into people as a toddler.

    Heh!

My Motochek account has lapsed, or I would have known this too.

Yes, his acceleration did surprise me slightly. And he was riding rather confidently for a learner.

    Exactly.

I had his location and speed pegged all the way along, never came close to hitting him. If I hadn't, though, we'd both have been toast. He shouldn't be putting his life in the hands of another rider that way.

Hey reminds me --If you ride a 99-04 CBR600 and 2 wendsdays ago were riding down the nor western past lincoln road offramp--Dude you were so very nearly toast it was unbelieveable
You flipped from the moving at 70km/h fast lane into the at that point open slow lane -no dramas there--if you had looked first.
The driver of the nissan skyline doing 100km/h in the slow lane had the entire car locked up and sideways trying to miss hitting you-Dunno how he did it to be honest

Never ceases to amaze me how many people have a fit, because the person in front of them didnt see them come BARRELING UP BEHIND THEM AT A NUMBER OF KNOTS.

Although i agree that the GN should have used his mirroes better, i dont agree with the fact that the person opening this thread has to nerve to have the attitide of........."oh please excuse me, im going faster. How rude of you to be in front of me as i plow through"

We were both filtering at a similar speed. He pulled ahead and cut in front of me without realising I was there.

I would never criticise someone who was riding like they were a car, for instance. Filtering is all about taking responsibility for getting out of the way of vehicles that aren't.

However, when one filtering rider just about takes out another one, it's time for a wakeup call. Moving quickly but safely through heavy traffic on an 8-lane motorway when it's already slushy and doing 50+kph in parts is a risky business that demands a high level of concentration.

Once again, if we hadn't both been playing the same game, I wouldn't be presuming to make the comments that I did. If, for instance, a car moves over in front of me when I'm filtering, it's my responsibility not to hit it.
