tons of different opitions follow the running in instructions, also gives you chance to learn the bike dc:<Originally Posted by Zapf

We've had this thread. There's the "ThrashTheLivingBejeesusOutOfItSoYouTeachItHowLifeI sGoingToBe" school, or the "BabyItGentlySoItDoesn'tDevelopAPersonalityDisorder" school. In short, you have to decide whether you want it to be a WildChild or a ZootScoot.Originally Posted by Zapf
And then there's lots of arguing about which is best, as they're mutually exclusive, and if you make the wrong choice, your bike is ruined for life, and people will laugh at you.
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
He's right. I asked this somewhere in New Member Speak a while back.
And like FS said, two schools of thought. I sort of followed the manual (there are explicit instructions in there), gave it the odd rark. If i had it all over again, i'd have given it more. And more.... and more.![]()
Just make sure you do an oil / filter change early on. I did one at 300km.
they also like to be washed, hugged, cuddled, whispered too, gently stroked and ah.. oops.![]()
Pretty much my run in was told keep under 7k rpm for first 1000kms or something silly like that i ran in nicely for first 500kms then starting running it a little harder once i got to 1000kms ride it like i was plan on riding it
Run it in as per the manual for half the recommended period. Then change the oil and filter and thrash the crap out of it.Originally Posted by Zapf
This is a compromise between the two schools of thought in regard to run in procedures.

congrats on your new baby Zapf, i suggest running it in by making the engine work hard sometimes, because the rings need to bed in properly and the engine needs to be under load to do this, being too gentle with a new engine can lead to the rings not bedding in sufficiently well enough and can cause excessive oil consumption and general gutlessness .
BRM has a article about running in, in the latest issue.
The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook.
Here is what I found...

had a read of Toyota's 1.6 4AGE Atlentic race engine run in instruction as well.... and its similar in line to what the above link mentions...

.Congrats on the new bike Zapf. 650 or 1000? Colour? Piccies? From Whitelocks or Letts?
I'm of the "run-it-in-pretty-much-like-you-ride-it-but-be-extra-careful-not-to-lug-it-and-don't-overrev-the-shit-out-of-it-and-lots-of-heating-up-and-cooling-down-short-trips-and-don't-sit-in-one-rev-range-for-long-or-you'll-glaze-the-bore" school.
