    Adventure ho!!

Who would be keen to do a Cape Rienga (SP?) challenge?

    The challenge:
Bike must cost < or = $1000 have a current warrant and reg (or be completely unsuitable to the journey at hand).
The bike must have less than 200cc or a flat out top speed of less than 120.
The bike must not be capable of cruising at 100.
Added 12/05/08: Please note the above are guidelines not rules.
IF you are complying with the spirit of the event then you will be given approval to bring a bike that does not meet all the criteria. Just give me and Fireball a reason. It can be logical, emotional, comical, downright illogical it does not matter just has to be a reason other than I want to do it on my normal bike.

If you want to bring your ordinary bike and you would need your full license to ride it or your bike is not inappropriate enough you will need to sponsor another rider.

Please stop trying to change the rules it is defeating the purpose of the challenge.

Given that many of the people who would be interested in such a journey are students (nuff said) if you wish to sponsor a rider who you think cannot make it you may.

as this is only a draft your comments are more than welcome and all feedback will be noted and considered for the final ride!

    WHAT: CC Challenge

WHY: To raise funds to be donated to the running of this site and a donation to Outward Bound, also as a personal challenge THIS IS NOT A RACE

    WHERE: Auckland to the Cape

WHEN: Friday 6th June 2008 due to be back in Auckland on Sunday 8th June 2008

MEET POINT: The bottom carpark (next to the outlet stores) at Westgate shopping center. We will be meeting at 6am SHARP, with a brief before we DEPART at 7am. we dont need typical late bikers.

ENTRY CRITERIA: This is open to anyone who meets the following criteria.
Bike must cost no more than $1000, have a current warrant and reg (or be completely unsuitable to the journey at hand). Your bike MUST be ROAD LEGAL
The bike must have less than 200cc or a flat out top speed of less than 120.
The bike must not be capable of cruising at 100.
If you are unsure if your bike meets the criteria feel free to PM one of the organizers to verify, either BigDog or myself, it will not be discussed in the thread until a ruling has been provided please PM one of us if you are unsure.

ROUTE PLAN: At this stage Ixion's route seems a suitable one, but any suggestions are welcome. a map will be attached once the route has been marked out and finalized so watch for that.

RISKS: As you are all aware this is ENTRY AT YOUR OWN RISK we will be on open roads in all weather conditions, you are responsible for your own safety. ALL RIDERS MUST HAVE the appropriate clothing for the ride and be wearing a HI-VIS vest, this is for your safety. As we are riding in a group there shouldnt be to many issues out there with traffic.
If you have first aid certification please let me know.
also it is a recommendation to carry a first aid kit and a puncture repair kit as we will be on gravel roads.

COST: There will be an entry cost to this event this is yet to be decided on the amount and all funds go into the kitty to be donated, also at this stage we anticipate some costs for food (beers and BBQ) and accommodation for both nights or if there is a friendly biker out there that doesnt mind letting us sleep on your lawn or paddock for a night drop me a line.

SWEEP VAN/TRUCK: We need a volunteer/s to drive behind as a safety car and a sweep vehicle. WE CAN NOT RIDE UNLESS WE HAVE ONE this is also for safety reasons. So drop me a PM if you can provide your service.
Please note: the purpose is to have some fun, on bikes that are not specific to the purpose.

If it is going to happen it has to happen by July.

I want to give people time to prep so probably in May. Depends a little on numbers.

That might be inappropriate enough to qualify to have the $1000 spend and the max speed exempted.
I will have to see the finished results before I can offer a final ruling.

PLEASE NOTE: I am serious about this. If there is enough interest this will go ahead if not Fireball and I will go Maruader and PGO and anyone else who wants to tag along.

If there is enough interest we will try and organize some fun stuff along the way and try and get some sponsorship for a charity.

(And a percentage of any money raised as a donation to Kiwibiker)

Heh, the 250RS almost qualifies -- instead I think I'll come along to be one of the `fast guys'

By June? I think there might be a suitable bike of 70s vintage coming up.

Anyway, I'm leaving in 10 minutes for a four-day holiday up Norf. I'll show you guys some pics of the 250RS when I get back -- she's a full-dress tourer! Going up hills is going to be tedious. Might give you lot some ideas.

Just to clarify, this ride is from Auckland to Cape Reinga?

Is riding back to Auckland afterwards a requirement?

As well as the price consideration, how about making it also a requirement that the bikes participating must have travelled at least 50,000km?

I may be interested but if your going to include back up vehicles and other / fast bikes then I don't see the point.

Keep it pure with cheap, crappy bikes and no support and it will be a great adventure and everyone will get something out of it, learning from and enjoying the cock ups and disasters.

You'll need to pick an interesting route as well, there is (again) no point in merely scooting up SH1 and back again, how about following the unsealed back roads on each coast and getting off the road as much as possible.

I'll watch this thread with interest.
