    Neighbours - Any non-confrontational options?

    Heres the story:

New neighbours have moved in and are driving me to despair. They have been there a week and last Wednesday they were partying until 3am. OK thought I they have just moved in and celebrating. Never had any trouble around here before so its proabably a one off.

Friday night. The language was even too much for me - I thought I was back in Sarf Auckland. The young drunks in the street exclaiming how big their dicks are and what they could do with them was somewhat amusing for the first hour but....... A brawl started and I phoned the police. They turned up with a wagon and dog handler and were abused but left as it had kind of quietened down. They were still going at 4am.

Now last night they were still going at 2am. On the weekend they had visitors who had dogs on the loose. There were 3 and two appeared to be part pitbull but I cant be sure. I went to shoo them away and one turned and barked at me - in my own back yard. I decided it best not to progress any further. My cat meanwhile had headed for the hills.

It is now starting to affect my work as my lack of sleep means I am even more grumpy than usual and snapping at my staff and making mistakes.

I did a search on the property to try and track down the owner but he isnt listed (I am pretty sure he has rented to his friends). Tried to track his registration but I seem to have written it down incorrectly. Checked out the Council web site and cant find any legal solutions. As it is more raised voices and abusive language there is no point in calling noise control.

I live alone and am not keen on starting any crazy feud but am lost as to what I can do? Any of you lot got any suggestions that can help?

No I am not brave enough to go knock on the door as there seems to be a heck of a lot of them and I dont want to start anything that could escalate to a battle from hell

Feel your pain, hard to suggest a non confrontational way of going about solving the problem other than going and knocking on the door and asking them to tone it down,if that doesnt work how about going round the other neighbours and if they feel the same way confronting them as a group.

buy an air horn (safety shop) ... used as an evacuation alert ... point it over the fence ... keep your finger on the trigger and watch their brains turn mushy (or is that mushier)... every time it gets loud again ... give them another blast.... words not required

Not quite so buddy you are in luck

Noise control can give a ticket for "excessive people noise"

a mate got one when we were all on the piss once, him yelling his arse off....and noise control slapped him in the face with a $500 fine...

    call them next time....

good luck aye, just dont let them find out its you...yet.

    hope that helps buddy.

You could make a complaint to noise control every time they're making excessively loud and long noise...or trying having a low key chat to your local Police station.

Not good stuff my dear, noisy neighbors suck!!
My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

    Good option.

I dont want to become a PinkHogGirl neighbour calling noise control and wasting police time whenever a door slams.

There's nothing you can do without getting conrontational or calling the authorities. So calling the authorities is the way to go. They obviously know where you live so it's important that they never find out who called the authorities or you could become a victim of much unpleasantness.

Personally if a dog comes onto my property I would just kill it - I don't have a gun but grabbing its fore paws abd wrenching it's ribcage apart seems to do the trick (I really really hate dogs in case you can't tell ).

Best of luck - I had similar noise problems in Glasgow 10 years ago - but that was in a Tenement block.

I'd try a bit harder with tracking down the landlord. Also, I'd ring noise control after 11pm. I think that's the time major noise is supposed to be toned down. Otherwise just keep ringing the cops when things get wild.

Which of course you are not! I had reason to go and talk to our neighbours a while ago for keeping us awake till 4am on a week night, when I saw them gathering the next night with drinks on the front deck as dusk fell. I was not confrontational, just rocked up with a smile and asked if they were aware that our bedroom was right there, and where they aware how far voices carried at night. It was fine.

By yourself is difficult. If you have been disturbed, chances are the rest of the neighbourhood has been too. Go pay a discreet
visit to the other neighbours, get a plan and approach in a friendly manner the first time. Many voices are louder than one, and far less likely to bring any retribution on you too.

PM me the addy mate, I may of may not be able to find the owner for you, and then you guys (one of the others will stand up for the group I am sure) can complain to them too.

If they are tenants the law covers disturbance of the neighbours, and is grounds for termination of the tenancy.

    Good luck girl!

Actually you can ring noise control anytime if it's bad. That's what they are for, you pay them with your rates to deal with exactly this situation. Animal control too.

Take a photo of the unrestrained dog.

Eat lots of muesli, do a big poo in an envelope, put it in their letterbox with the photo when they are asleep, be sure and mark it return to sender, you'll feel better.

    Sedge.

Hey, this isn't good. I would say that you do need to be brave and go and have a nice friendly chat about the 'after reasonable hours' noise. It's not that hard and I suspect that they will not be aware of the impact they are having on the neighbourhood. Good luck :-)

oh no mate - feel your pain!! you poor bugger.

ok, so, def call noise control (as already suggested). They will most def respond to raised voices etc after 10/11pm...was at a mates recently, barbecue outside, quite a few people, no music, noise control turned up n we were told to move inside or formal something or other would be taken against leaseholder of property.

secondly, def understand what you're saying about being single girl, living alone etc...again I second what someone else suggested - low key chat to local po-lice, make sure you mention occupants seem to be junkies, lots of diff folks going in day n night etc...

thirdly, loose dogs. council or spca. unregistered etc, roaming streets. if nothing else they'll come n have a look, leave a calling card/warning note etc.

lastly, great idea about tracking down landlord etc. Not sure about how you could go about it, but def a great idea, as I can't imagine any landlord (even if they know the occupants) would be over the moon about junkies/losers living in/wrecking the house?

PS: when approaching the various agencies, I'd give as much detail as you can (i.e more incentive for them to come to your assistance). In terms of approaching the noisy neighbours directly, from the situ u've described, since they clearly don't earn their living in a conventional way, it's unlikely they'd be sympathetic to your issues around sleep, fatigue n adverse impact of their noise on your ability to function at work..

....n if all else fails, maybe start "storing" your household rubbish or create a really foul smelling compost on your section - as close to their property as you can...or get outside at 7am on the weekends, n play country n western or church sermons as loud as you can...bag up dog shit in brown paper bags, set them on fire n lob em at the house?
