    Kamikaze pigeons

Heading into work North on the Northern Motorway in Auckland, just past the Tristram Ave off ramp when a Pigeon dives straight into my right shoulder.

I was doing about 110Km/h, and he was probably doing 30 odd. Massive poof of feathers all round my helmet, blood on the visor. Pull over into the shoulder ASAP, get off my bike, go to check on the poor bird lying, twitching in the middle of the lane. Picked it up, felt so sorry for the stupid bird twitching and convulsing in my hands, I had to break it's neck.

Left it on the side of the road, headed off to work, my shoulder has been aching and in agony all days, head home looking forward to seeing the spectacular bruise that is must have left.

Take my shirt off, and nothing. I was a little disappointed. All that pain, a dead bird, and not even a cool bruise to show for it. I think the shoulder armour managed to sustain most of the impact.

No wonder their called bird-brains. That's another first for me.

I was in Queen St. Saturday morning and commented to her indoors how big and fat the pigeons are up your way. Are you sure it didn't just eat to much and fall off the overbridge ? Bloody lucky it didn't hit the visor
