Wink Central Plateau - 42nd Traverse and Fishers Track - 29/30 November '08

Hi I'm planning on riding to this area to do these two tracks on Saturday 29/11. I plan on riding from Wellington leaving late afternoon on the Friday 28/11 travelling up through the Whanganui National Park or Turakina Valley.

Accommodation options I'm considering for the Saturday night are the National Park Hotel and or the Owhango Pub.

I've yet to inquire on # of beds available at these two establishments on the Saturday night. I'm looking to determine the level of interest before making inquiries of either one as to whether they can accommodate a group.

I've sent a note to the Convent at Jerusalem to see whether its possible to stay there on the Friday night for those of us coming from the South (or those from the North wanting to meet us on the river road).

Welcome thoughts / expressions of interest. Depending on interest shown I'll contact the pubs to see whether they can accommodate us and post this as a an event in the Calendar.

    Cheers Aslan

    Hiya Stephen

    I am keen

just got to do some domestic greasing first (I am away weekend before this so might need to put in some 'quality time' before mentioning 2 weekends in a row away on bikes...)

Thumbs up thought I was going to be 'Nigel no mates on this ride'

Hi MarkS and Pampa - great to have your interest hope you're both able to come.

Others watching this thread would be great to have your company. I'm hoping some of the active adventurers from JaffaLand and the Waikato, Taupo, the Naki and HB might link up with those of us coming from South of Taupo.

cheers Aslan - more on accommodation when the numbers become clearer.

I'm pretty keen, but this may disrupt domestic bliss. Will do some groveling and then get back to you.

Tony W makes a valid point - date clash was unintentional - simply fitting around domestic bliss arrangements - read this is the weekend my wife is visiting her grandchild in Melbourne

So many rides so little time eh?

    Talking further profuse apologies

hey- as mooted at the TTTTT (thanks Young1 et al) I expect that I will be organising another ride along with Mark S and any others in the Southern North Island who care to volunteer in Jan / Feb which will take in the country around Taihape, Hunterville, Ohakune, Raetehi etc - I'd expect the Traverse and Fisher's to be optiions at that time also for those of you coming from the North. Cheers S

Thumbs up balancing the relationship / adv riding thing

LOL MarkS - my wife sees right through my devious attempts to fit in another MC adventure at the expense of some stuff involving us both.

As I've said to you previously - your passion (or it it obsession like mine?) for bikes is prolly well rationalised to your wife on the basis you're doing a lot of it with your lads who are going to have lasting memories of fun with Dad.

Have a good one! Ciao S

That's what I trying to explain to my better half... that's why I bought the new bike to my son even when I don't have one of my own ... ( I just borrow it momentarily to check is safe)

Talking got our leave pass organised?

Hi Pampa - you going to be OK for 29/30 Sat / return Sun? With the possiblity of staying somewhere the night before ie Fri 28/11 after work.

Hope KSlider, Busa Jim and other Wellywood folks in addition to you and MarkS will be able to link in.

We should be encouraging KiwiGSer to bring his HP2.

    cheers Aslan

    Hi Aslan,

I'm ok with anything on that date so far, as long as I can make it back Monday 8:30 am and is a nice ride of course , which I'm sure it is. BTW I'm flexible in regards accommodation.

    Cheers,
    Pampa

    Hey Aslan

I'm keen, but can't be 100% sure just yet
Really want to do the 42 Traverse ( with a good supply of GS pushers )

Just hope I don't drown it like Oscar's crew did.
At least they knew what to do and how to fix it

    Jim
