    Bucket project progress

The tail and tank on the bucket I've yet to race are a bit dodgy. Since I've wanted to make bike bits out of fibreglass, thought this would be a good first attempt. (cause really, I got it to make it look cool rather than race... I'll race it when I have money though!).

So far I've used $20 of expanding foam, and got the wood for free. I used some old bog but it ran out quickly. Will be getting hold of some more. Then it should be good to make a mould from it.

The plug sits a bit higher than the finished project will be.

    It's a GP125. Bought it off Sketchy_Racer for cheap.

I'd like to get a nice expansion chamber for it someday. How do you figure out what to get?

It hasn't cost much so far. Fibreglass might cost a bit yet. And the tools I've used have been basic. Borrowed a few things like a jig saw off my Granddad. It's mainly been time and feeling arsed to do it that makes all this difficult. This had been put aside for a few weeks when my working weeks intensified.

It will become far more bling.

I got into refinishing for stuff like this. I'm thinking Silver and Red would look good on the tank. Frame will probably be resprayed black, but make it look perfectly smooth. I also want to try out eletrocoating. The forks on my Dad's bike have a Titanium Oxide coating that's had another electric shock go through, giving them a rainbow coloured effect. Much like heat staining on exhaust pipes, only more intense. I want to try that on a few components.

I had a go with it when I was making some smaller scale designs. Didn't like it so much. Press it one direction and it balloons out another way and it was too easy to press out of shape accidentally. I might have been using some crap stuff.

The foam stays fairly solid. And if you drop it, it doesn't fall to pieces. Plus it's easy to cut into shape. Only problem are those airholes, which waste a lot of bog filling up. Being into refinishing, I'm comfortable using bog though which should make the next step easy.

He's back! I was just thinking about using expanding foam for a seat mould (or knowing me just generally a seat).

Never left. It's fun stuff. It's like silly string, only constructive

If the mould turns out good, I might make a few others and paint them up. I'm good at hot rod flames so I'll definitely try that. I'll see if anyone on KB will want to buy them after.

    Hi Coyote.
I've just finished a similier project. I found some high density foam (used by boat builder) and for packing. the foam is heavy duty and can be glued and sanded, like wood without the work
then just glass over top (doesn't react) and then just remove.
I hunted around for epoxi and again found that most boat shops sell it very cheap (about $35 per litre).
anyway I hope this might save you a little time.

Expoxi is 45$ for a box of 6 (2 tubes each) Then you need a gun and some nozzles.
Im working in the store this week . The Foam stuff goes too 11 Cubic Metres per bottle of something, i was reading the bottle the other day.

That GP goes pretty well considering the the straight pipe! Really well in fact .
