Flashed up the old Trumpy

Been doing up an original Hinckley 91 Daytona. One of the very first to roll off the line when Triumph got going again under John Bloor. Its a 1000cc 4cyl.
I've never seen or heard of one in NZ, theres a few 1200s as they came out I think in 93. Mine was brought back here by a Kiwi some years back where he owned it in the UK and toured Europe with it, and since here has sat doing sweet FA.

Did a strip down, total respray in a later colour scheme (it was black originally). Got rid of the awful 90s graphics, got MSTRS to make me later type decals.

Powder coated the wheels silver instead of the original white, done all the brakes, wheel bearings and generally replaced anything suspect, but to be honest it was pretty bloody good shape.
Replaced the original large screen with a later lower Daytona tinted one.
Got some mufflers lined up, but actually quite like the qiuet 4cyl tone of it for now.
Thought bits may be a bit hard to get but no probs from the dealers & Ebay, as the later 1200s, SuperIIIs etc had the same body, frame.

Goes well too, its got good top end, but of course I'm only guessing as its illegal to go over 100kph.

I never really considered painting for some reason, but it was only 130 bucks for sand blasting and powder coating, which I thought was bloody cheap.
I imagine the paint would chip easy.
I got the tyres put on almost immediately after picking up from the coaters, the wheels were still warm, and no chips.

Is that the same sort of age as the 750 triple which looks very similar? I took one for a test-ride back in 2000-ish, and it was kinda OK, but a tad agricultural.

Possibly mate.
They came out in 93 as a triple but 900.
Think the Daytona on my one's year also came out as a 750 4.

Just a note on powdercoating, best to remove the powdercoating under nuts and bolts as they can work loose as found out by my mate who had his wheels done and one nearly came off.

I had no bolts etc powder coated, as everything was stripped, but if you mean the surface they bolt to, I get heavy handed with Loctite.

On a side note....pleasantly surprised how readily available bits are for it being a 91.
Any bits bar engine, are all the same from the 91-99 Daytonas, triples, 4cyls, 900 - 1000 - 1200.
Have got indicator lenses, foot rest rubbers, carb rubber blocks, and other things with ease.
And bloody cheap too, all from the Triumph dealer.
Silly things like having to remove all the carbs to replace the airfilter, which is part of the aircleaner box!!!
All part of it.

Took it for its maiden voyage today to Napier, about 40kms each way.
Performed nice.
Still can't get used to the 4cyl thing, owning a twin and triple, and so qiuet......but hell......I can live with it.
Rolled on the throttle in top past a long line of cars, next thing I'm doing 150mph.
Ooops, I mean 101 kph, had to slow down, over the limit of course.

Just cosmetics.
Has a seat cowl, flyscreen, belly pan, rad/oil cooler covers, bar end mirrors, Two Brothers, Hi rise exhaust.
Goes awesome, I feel really in sync with it, and can ride it hard without feeling like its going to throw me.
Its my fav bike out of mine.
Never given an ounce of probs, mind you its a late 04, very last of the 955, and some may say the best version of the 955.
Well thats what the Triumph workshop guy told me once........who knows.
