    Peter Goddard, CKT suspension seminar

I just wanted to say a big thanks to the guys from CKT, they organised Peter Goddard ex world superbike, world gp and general all round Ohlins guru to come out to NZ and with the help of Robert and Dennis share some of there invaluable knowledge on suspension with us less educated!

The seminar did cost and it was by an invite style arrangement for industrie insiders and CKTs loyal customers! There were some big names there like Sherriffs, Smith, Fitzgerald etc and also guys like Paul Pavlovich came along to brush up on there knowledge and possibly get some more insight into the direction any rule changes may take. The seminar explained everything from the principals of how suspension works to what it does everytime we muck around with those shiny little clicker things to geometry changes etc etc, i was a bit of a noob on the suspension front so some of it went a bit over my head but i certainly took away valuable knowledge that would usually take years to obtain.

The services CKT supply do come at a premium price, but with the amount of time and effort that these guys put in makes it absolutely worth its weight in gold! Since i started racing on the road Robert has done so much to help me, i have purchased 2 sets of suspension from him and in return he has been there basically 24/7 on the phone for assistance revalved and replaced shocks or springs sometimes several times in a day for no charge! After every race he will come and ask if everything is working fine etc and now organising someone like Peter to come out and help out. Oh and he also sells all my second hand gear for me without commission instead of potentially selling the customer new gear where he could make some cash! Dennis and James deserve a big chunk of the credit btw

Thanks Choppa. In fact several ''names'' were invited to attend who didnt. There were doubtless reasons such as work commitments etc but also an air of ''Im not going to learn anything'' . I think everyone who attended will beg to differ, Peter came out with some real gems of information. Its not easy to get such very learned people out to this isolated little colony, this has been 8 months in the making and in the end had to come together at very short notice, given a very tight window of opportunity and constant date changes.

Yeah, that is a bit gutless lol, maybe the person meant that ohlins lets you rip off from the opposition?

I fully agree with the uncle chop chop, completely worth while, worth every penny and what a great speaker! really made it easy to understand the principles.
Again, Thanks Robert for organizing this seminar. Pity though, as soon as I left i remembered a whole bunch of questions I had for him (as always is the case I suppose!)

Looking forward to any future ones!

    Wellington Seminar

    Hi Guys

I thought i would comment on the seminar i attended in Wellington.
Luckily i saw some correspondence in one of Roberts posts and rung him immediately to find out where and when.
Yes the seminar did cost but i was well worth it to sit and listen from a wealth of experience that came from Peter.
To be honest the content would have suited those who had a sufficient level of understanding in regards to suspension and geometry and i found it a little over my head at times but in saying that it did broaden my knowledge and helped me to understand what set ups do for your bikes handling and feedback.
There seems to always be a compromise required with an emphasis on handling and grippage depending on the race track, surface and temperature.
What may be right on a track like Mansfield one day may not be right on the same track another day! this is why a good working knowledge of what your suspension does and what it can be made to do is imperative for the competitive racer to get the best out of his machine on the day.
The Continental guy who got up for 15 minutes during the seminar was excellent and we learnt abit about "cold shear" and other devastating effects to tyres when the suspension isnt set up properly.

Money well spent thanks again to CKT Robert and Peter and the Conti Guy (carnt remember his name) oh and the finger food was primo too.

It cracks me up about the tagging you must have over charged someone Rob Haahaaaaaaaa
