    Wellington MX N00B here

Thought I would try my luck here as well.....

Got my first bike on Sunday morning and went for my first ride yesterday.
    LOVED IT!

Being very new, I have little idea where to go and lots of questions about how to attack things so would be stoked if there were any locals out there, with a lot of patience and a lot of skills to give me a bit of a heads up, and even show off a few good local spots to ride in that wouldnt get me in over my head too fast.....

I'm in the central city and we have bikes & ute so can go most places but need a little notice so I can drop bubs off with the grandparents!

Would love any advice or tips for riding places, I have been down to Red Rocks for my first ride and I know of Long Gully (will be looking at heading up there one day soon) but dont know anywhere else local.

You can PM (private message) her from that! or do a search for a post of hers click on her name and then PM her!!
    Good luck!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

Thanks bud, good forum this......Not terribly hard to get around.
I used to be on the phpBB Styles Team so am not too bad at finding my way around forum softwares these days but it is really nice to see a helpful bunch lurking about here. So many forums people would just leave you to it, or run you down for not knowing how!
    Thanks!

I PM'd them both so will see what happens now =)

I think I am discovering a few familiar usernames here though LOL

we do and it's free! It's just north of Foxton along the foxton straights. It's a big pine forrest that runs alng the beach between the seaside townships of Himatangi and Tangimoana. I was up there yesterday with a mate, my brother and 2 nephewsone of them's on a CRF150 aged 13 and he gets through allright... just gotta get it into his head to pin it through soft sand and not to back off at the top of sand dunes! lol

What is there thats similar in Welly to ride?
I only know of Red Rocks for flat and open-ish and Long Gully which I havent been to yet - this weekend I plan to head up there and have a look!
the thing is... it's illegal for us to ride up the beach and the cops do moniter it so you gotta be in the know! nah just gotta go in at the Tangimoana entrance and not piss off the locals... they are entirely fine with us using their forrest just not their roads or beaches for wheelie practice

I'd be happy to take you girls up there... anytime... and in return you can convince my wifey to get back on a bike

I posted this reply in the femaleriders thread so just cutnpasted it here incase ya miss it. Red rocks is also illegal to ride without a current wof and rego as it's a beach and therefore the road rules apply. The cops go round there sometimes but they're pretty lax i think... i've ridden there plenty without seeing a cop... just a heads up

Long gully is basically a hard packed, poorly maintained MX track for people with a screw loose (like the land owners son!) the track was made for his sons and they are fast as fuck. Since his son's growing up he has made it available for anyone's use and charges $20 to ride it as well as you must sign the form that says you wont sue him if you get hurt. there is a little enduro loop which is fun but reasonably difficult (not really for learners) and it's short. I like it up there and you will too... you can learn anywhere... just a heads up. Oh and another note is it's windy as fuck up there... there's a reason they put the wind Turbine on top of that hill as i found out whilst flying off the ski jump lol

    Hit up the shops...
Most of them ride dirt too so should know a few good spots that are local.

    Happy riding!

Thanks Kezza, I did see your post in that thread, but TBH that seems like its people from up north so almost not relevant enough for me which was why I posted this.
I feel bad hijacking their thread......

I would like to do Tangi, my best friend has a house there and they ride but I really would like to nail down a few basic bike handling skills before I head up that ways and make an ass of myself in front of a bunch of experts LOL
