How about a new thread to get more weekend ride options going for the social riders among us from the Kapiti area?

It's my birthday on Friday and I will celebrate my 38 years with a ride this weekend.... actually I pretty much do that every weekend but hey!

Either Saturday or Sunday afternoon for a blast (or in my case a dawdle) over the Paekakariki Hill for a coffee and cake and back again if anyone is keen.... might even get out to the Blue Mountains and over to the short straw cafe in Whitemans Valley if I can get a long enough leave-pass!

Can work out details closer to the time.

A bit of Hamilton V8s watching and a beer might go down well after too. Thank goodness for My Sky!

Any other rides or ideas welcome - just thought a central thread for ongoing rides from Kapiti could be good since the summer weeknight thread worked so well.

UPDATE:
As per posts further along in thread and calendar....
PLAN: 1pm this Saturday 17 April from Waikanae New World carpark by the petrol pumps (if weather is crap, then Sunday at 2pm).

Destination: Short Straw Cafe in Whitemans Valley.

Fun bits: Paekakariki Hill Road, Haywards Hill, Blue Mountains Road.

See you there.

Good idea Cam, like you a ride is on most weekends, unlike you I dont need a leave pass. Will see what happens on this thread as sunday is out
me as a 4x4 event for me. and not sure If Im working Saturday. I just know I will be on bike sometime.

A Busa on the Blue Mountains or Whitemans Valley !!! ??? I'm out weekends if it's fine (really fine) and early.
But we're never to meet if you are riding after midday. I just do breakfast and home, before the 4x4s and lunnies are out. G

Sounds like fun. Once you work out a standard time I can probably attend once a month around the Kids activities. :2thumbsup

I would love a monthly dawddle somewhere with good coffee, Sunday afternoons most likely.

I might you all meet at Waikanae.

Just have to wrestle with my new exhausts first - I mounted them slightly (read totally) incorrectly last weekend and want to fix them saturday morning.

As long as it doesn't frustrate me so much to lose the plot (it did last weekend), and I haven't thrown my toys too far, then I should turn up.

Well, what a great day. I turned up to waikanae at about quater to one expecting to see about half a dozen bikes, but what a suprise to see I dont know but maybe 20 25 bikes (who did the count?). Weather was good, the kapiti wind was not present. Off we went. It is always a great thing being with a group of bikes and hearing them all take off...all those pistons screaming in harmony! The Paekakariki Hill is always good, but today it just felt better. Although I think it should be called the Peacockariki hill...how many spotted that roast on the side of the road...cranberry sauce anyone?

Whitmans valley, what a great road, I loved it and is another one to mark on the map, although by the looks of things it's days may be numbered as it stands...The cafe was a beaut place, and as a typical scrooge I can say great bang for the buck...The prices were excellent, and the food was not too bad either...Although a trio of us overshot it whilst perving up horses arses...

As for the ride home, great roads, great company, but a shame about all the equine holdups...

On a scale of grin factor today was a 10.5 out of 10

The guzzi bit - erm - loud so we shut the throttle and coast past. I've seen what happens in a bike vs large beast encounter, horses are worth giving a wiiiiddddeee berth. Cars hurt but dont tend to kick the shite out of you trying to get up.

Everyone rides at their own pace. This group is really good at letting people ride in a style and speed that suits them safest and best. I like to take my time myself.... crashes and injury cost me so very much in the past so I do my best to minimise the likelihood of a repeat.

Great ride yesterday. Good bunch of people and some really nice bikes.

Managed to get my new pipes on in time (even though they were overshadowed by the TL1000 with the unbaffled pipes - now they were loud), was running about 10 mins late and saw you all go past on the other side of the road - just outside of waikanae - so quick u turn and caught back up with you all. Really glad I made it as it was a great relaxed ride at each persons preferred pace. Plus I finally got to ride the blue mountains road.

The Coasties put together a great team of riders, I found a few from the Rapa and we all converged at the Western Lake turnoff at Featherston to do the lake ride.:scooter: We even managed to waylay the lovely Gareth and Sels, and keep them from going home to do their lawns. Sorry guys - but trust me - the lawns and chores will always keep. :Punk:

Western Lake road is such a nice road, beautiful native bush, great sweeping corners and those looooong straights that just beg the pony to be whipped to something way faster then a gallop. And we all did whip our ponies to a frenzy – all falling behind the gorgeous Paula who was at the end before we had barely left the startline:yes:. WooHoo she ride fast!! And i am wondering how any of us are going to be able to keep up with Katie when she moves up a few CC's. Great riding girl

A nice relaxing lunch at the Ferry hotel, in fact so relaxing Marty had to have a few zzzzzz’s :sleep::sleep:at the table. We learnt all about Col's trainer wheels and other handy attachments to be had for the Wing. I am sure Ducati make similar essential attachments!

Then off to my other “local” – the Gladdy. Bianca was team leader and kept us moving along at a nice brisk pace through the Longbush twisties. This is also another great road – why would anyone want to play on the Taka’s when there all these other places that have so much more charm and speed. And so few cars (and not a toyota starlet to be seen)

We all had a quick drink at the Gladdy – then it really was time to let the Coastie Kids go home to all the boring things they had been able to put aside for a few hours:bye:. Apart from Sinny – who long ago had decided to give up boring stuff all together. he just plays with his bikes, drinks and falls out of planes.:shit::shit:

Was a great weekend for riding and catching up with old and new friends. Thanks Gals and Guys. Off to clean the bugs out of….everything.

Thanks Cam for organizing the great ride yesterday
I think we all had a smile on our faces somewhere on the ride. Watching that guy pull the front wheel up and cruising down the road was a blast for me. Joking with the waitress and coffee maker at The Straw Cafe about ordering the biggest flat white they had and they then deliver you a soup bowl full of the stuff you know your almost in heaven.
Great bunch of different bikes and people which made a nice afternoon outing
Catch ya at the next one

Yea mate considering what we all had done during the day the ride home was a slow walk in the park
What a Fantastic day it was and even better we survived and came out with so much
Learned some new skills. I was turning into the apex of a corner too quickly
Didn't realize how quickly the bike would pull up until we did that braking test
Amazing how fast those corners arrive when your hooning down those straights
Couldn't believe I did around 100km on that track or at 3km per lap equivalent 33 laps
Dont tell anyone else about the www.prorider.co.nz courses or they all want to go
I'm so lucky Katiepie let me know on Saturday's ride that a couple of spots had come available (Big thanks Katiepie)

Wot does that mean?? i hopeless with maps

http://metservice.com/national/maps-rain-radar/rain-radar-forecasts/rain-forecast-3-day

Try that one, hit the play button and it gives ya a 3 day forecast ! The darker the green the heavier the rain, till it goes to red (which you'd prolly pull over and hide in)
The little lines with tags on the end are wind direction (tag at rear) the more little tags the higher the wind speed !

But to cut a long story short the met service say shit weather all week end (but they have been known to be wrong

Here's one to confuse ya lol
http://metservice.com/national/maps-rain-radar/satellite-imagery/australia-ir-satellite

This one is actually pretty self explanitary, blue is clear sky, white is cold (or high) cloud, dark grey is warm (or low) cloud, (mix the white with the grey and ya get rain) the round white cloud you see over nz is in an cylonic weather pattern or low, means wind is clockwise , the blue patch below nz is an anticyclone or high ! when one meets the other the wind usually gets up there in the area they meet ! (top of one, the wind is going the same direction as the bottom of the other)

Confused ? haha Open ya curtain on sat morning and decide then !

Hey Cam = looking good. I will prob leave from Rapa, so can pick up riders from Rimutex and Haywards, then over Paekak (cos i am now a Paekak slapper, thanks Devo:gob::innocent:), to Waikanae. anyone seen weather for Saturday

And - just note to all - these is a great group of riders, no attitude, no agendas. we look after all riders, all abilities, all sizes, shapes and colours, but if italian, i will take special care....

Good idea Carla. See you in Waikanae! As far as weather goes, Welly to Palmy North indicate cloud with late showers but hey, it will change no doubt.... hopefully for the better! We can make a call on that Friday night if weather is below par for a fun ride.

I agree, all riders welcome.... just turn up and have fun. Nice comment appreciated too... the Welly region crew have been great to ride with.

Absolutely! The weather north of Wellington doesn't look too bad either so should be a dry ride... if not, well there is always wet weather gear and spare undies. It may be my last ride in Wellington as I head to the police college next weekend for a 5 week course with Customs... its a 6 day a week course so spare time will be a tad limited.

Here in the Nui it is raining and has been raining most of the night.
Looking at the rain radar at 7am rain is fairly widespread at the moment. The blue bits indicate moderate rain.
Are we doing it?
