Runs between Blythe rd and Stoneyhurst rd North of Motunau. it is a public road however it does run through two farms and you can easily go the wrong way onto private property so make sure you use a gps to stay on the legal road.
I spoke with one of the farmers and he didn't have a problem with people going through however he does have a problem with retards making a mess on the property which is fair call, I would be pissed off too, even worse he said one retard took a car up there, got in trouble and went back to him get the retard family out of the crap, he should have shot the retards and stopped the gene pool.
One other thing to consider is lambing is just starting up there and your presence could be annoying, not trying to stop you going but just give consideration to the properties as a working farms and everyone will be happy.
I know farmers can apply to restrict access at these times but if we all play nicely we should be sweet and enjoy a good ride with good views so take your camera too.
Thanks Paul. Sounds awesome. Will keep that one in mind for after lambing. I agree, consideration is the key to everyone being able to enjoy.

You guys up to try the CCC Loop again.
2nd weekend of October weather permitting, last year was a lot of fun.
I want to try it backwards this time around.
Might be keen, back is fixed - but not after "too" gnarly on my new Tiger 800XC

If I took the TA I'd have more fun on the gravel version, bypassing both the muddy sections. Those bits are fun on the little bike with chunky tyres though.

While I think of it, am still keeping an eye out for a spare set of wheels for the XT600e. It's a '97 I think. If anyone has some lying around, knows of somewhere I could try or any other models that may fit, plz lemme know :) I wanna have one set for dirt/adventure, one set for road/commuting.

Me and a buddy did the Waimak loop today, South Eyreton Ford on Harrs Rd is now repaired but the tree felling is about 700m before you get to Dog Trail Rd :brick:
Also on the South Side between Bleak House Rd and Cooks Rd they're felling trees across the road. We did notice that Weedons Ross Rd access was open to Mcleans Island.

Porika claimed me today, going down toward the lake at 'that' spot.
Done a beautiful job of taping my visor back on only to remember it needs to be open to get my glasses on AFTER the helmet is on.
Pic looking back up the track isn't so good, already picked bike up. Josh has one of the bike on it's side still.
Oh, and no injury other than the scratch on my nose and the torn Remote Moto sticker on front of my bike. Double take mirror and Alt Rider bags took a big hit but them and new pants all still in perfect condition, you wouldn't know they'd seen any action.

Hi Guys
I have been on a few rides organised by Shoshoni which have been awesome rides, so I thought I would return a favour and contribute to the Christchurch ADV ride list.
I have a neat ride called "Get lost in North Canterbury" starting in Kaiapoi, lunch at Rangiora and depending on time and weather out towards Loburn.
I have done part of the ride two up on my DR650 and then Carl (TA) came out , I went on the Beta 498 and we looked at the rest.
I have sworn Carl to secrecy not to say where were going or I will kill him or put him on a NASA rocket, yeah I know same thing.
This is all rideable on anything up to a DR650 size bike, anything bigger is welcome - I have a camera to capture the entertainment.
There is a bit of single track through trees and some ruts so it would be a bit tight for bigger bikes, we will be crossing creeks but nothing over your axle.
I am happy to run it Saturday or Sunday, whatever suits.
I know its short notice but it should be a fun trip
Meeting in Kaiapoi on North side of the Shell Shop 9.36 am and leave at 9.58am

Recently had a couple of people (one on KB, one not) approach me looking for other people interested in more than the usual day outings.
I'm sure there's quite a few of us here that are or would be in to that, might be good to do a few more weekenders.
Personally trying to think of what I did on the bikes in the last 12 months with KBers and there was probably only about 7 such trips counting the Clarance weekend, Edwards, Denniston/Edwards multi , the DB1k, a couple of Molesworth/Braeburn type trips with stop overs and of course the epic Bannockburn week and trip to it. Only one of those I camped alone.
There are lots of camp spots (mostly ~$6 DOC sites) with the minimum of a hole in the ground to go in if not a Hut of 4 or more bunks as well.

Had a blast at the Amuri School trail ride yesterday. Thanks for recommending it to us Carl. In the morning we did the main loop. The conditions were great and the scenery was awesome, taking in some great views of the Hurunui. Was kicking myself for leaving the camara back at the car.
Back to base for lunch, which was provided - burgers and home baking, with tea and coffee - what more could you ask for? Our 10-year-old didn't have too much energy left in the tank so after lunch we took the family loop. This turned out to be more technically challenging than the main course, with a mean rocky climb. I had visions of what my tank would look like if I attempted it myself so copped out of that section, letting my husband take the sherpa up. But my son went for it - after not much more than a year of riding, he is demonstrating how quickly he has out-skilled his mum!
Good fun!

Yes was a good ride, main loop would have been more fun on a mobility scooter, there were four enduro deviations, the third was quite gnarly but mostly rideable.
Rode with Carsten (Kla-dong) on his newish KTM Freeride, he had been out the day before and got water in the carb so it turned into a Noride in a couple of places, we tipped the bike on its side and dumped a small amount of fuel and we were back to Freeride again.
I have attached the GPS log of the day
Highest elevation was 648 metres
Lowest point was down at the Hurunui river 131 metres
One lap was 28.50 with the first two enduro deviations
Also a couple of pictures, Carsten having a we peep talk with the bike and WA LA of he goes and a selfy of me and a convenient fence post.
Perfect weather and neat valleys

I gave a quick wave to someone I thought was you next to a black Sherpa nearish the start of the track on my left in the parking area while on my way back on to the course for my 2nd lap, I was following a mate on a KTM at time.

An interesting start to my weekend. Was giving WR an oil change and spotted my clutch cable almost broken (badly frayed with about two strands holding) some phone calls to local dealers was no help. Was told Tracktion may be able to help with a repair. I rang them they made no promises but would try to fit it in. They rang me an hour or so later to say, Your going trail riding tomorrow. How good is that ? Great customer service. Sunday morning was driving through Belfast at 7.45 and bloody phone rings (breakdown at work) go and sort that. Back on the road 9.30. On the trail 10.45 managed four laps and two enduro bits 116.4 km's for me. It was a great day. Sure slept well last night.

Hi Guys, Take two
I have been on a few rides organised by Shoshoni which have been good rides, so I thought I would contribute to the Christchurch ADV rides.
I have a neat ride called get lost in North Canterbury starting in Kaiapoi, lunch at Rangiora and depending on time and weather out towards Loburn.
I have done part of the ride two up on my DR650 and then Carl (TA) came out , I went on the Beta 498 and we looked at the rest
This is all rideable on anything up to a DR650 size bike, anything bigger is welcome - I have a camera to capture the entertainment.
There is a bit of single track through trees and some ruts so it would be a bit tight for bigger bikes.
I am happy to run it Saturday or Sunday, whatever suits, the weather will be a decider so lets see what happens.

Hi Mark,
You're not really going to have time to do a lot but you could either head from Methven up SH 77 to near Glentunnel, t/off towards Whiteclifffs and go thru Waianiwaniwa Rd to Sheffield then pickup Sh 73 to the Waimakariri gorge bridge then head to Christchurch along the south side of the Waimak River...just follow your nose, you won't get lost or...
Head to Little River then turn left soon after and take gravel road to Port Levy and back to Christchurch via Purau and Diamond harbour.
There are lots of other tracks on Banks Peninsula but given your flight departure etc can't see you having the time to go to far

We had a good ride, river was very low so easy going :niceone:, Carl TA did manage a wee lay down :shit: in one of the crossings but thankfully only a bit cup of water in the bottom of a ther air box so all good :niceone:.
Carl was lucky my side stand sunk into the shingle so I didnt get a picture , may be next time.
A couple of pics of two old buggers trying to look cool, not sure about Carls tea pot impressions though :bleh:
Dont worry Carl those Klim pants dont make your arse look fat :no:
We enjoyed your report and the pics. Been tinkering on the bikes today and, all going well, will venture to the river tomorrow.:woohoo: Not sure what section we will explore. The gorge sure looks a nice spot.
Glad you had a great time. :2thumbsup

Great spot there TR & from memory amazing rock formations. A lot more water than that when I took my jet boat through though.

Tis a great spot and yes the limestone walls and rock formations are something else.

We got to explore the Waipara River today. On your suggestion, Paul, we headed up towards the gorge. We went in at Stringers Bridge. It was sweltering up there - after an hour or so we took a break to cool off in the river. We got as far as a private property trespass sign, which stopped us in our tracks to scratch our heads. Were itching to carry on, but our son was tiring in the heat so we decided to turn around and head back at this point. Would be interested to know how far away we were from the gorge.
We encountered some slimy, slippery fords. Our boy had a couple of mishaps, and I duckwalked across in a couple of places out of fear of giving my bike a dunking, but thankfully, no dramas. The gravel was soft in places, working the core muscles, but all part of the fun. On the return leg we were spurred on by the thought of cold ginger beers waiting for us at the car.
The limestone walls along the way were impressive - we enjoyed having such a scenic spot to ourselves. Awesome.

Yes it gets bloody hot in there, bugger you were only a few minutes from the gorge, ignore that sign, it is designed to intimidate people and keep them out from a farmer who thinks he owns the river, (he doesn't)
Yes there is a bit of snot in the river at the moment and when the snot is on the lime it is greasy.
We at least you get to play another day

Well there was only three riders on the trip today, me , myself and I :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:, so I then had a choice of leading trip leader or being tail end charlie :argue:, I didn’t want the dust so I lead the trip :done:. I haven’t been to loch Katrine for 15 plus years, last time I was there all the batches were there.
I mucked around in some creeks and banks on the way in only to fall off on flat ground while not paying attention so gave myself the DOF award :nya:.
Anyway I had a nice relaxing play day on the Beta 498, it is a cool adventure bike :2thumbsup.
Nice day, nice ride and plenty of photos

Pretty much what he said and the reason I miss stuff being mostly done here is exactly that, if you aren't constantly checking it then the local rides do get lost in the Facebook feed never to be found until it's too late. Either that or they are blocking me. :brick:
Have a look at remotemoto.com (http://remotemoto.com)and back through this thread for ideas. Don't wait for us to get organised, if you want to do something post here and if we can we will come, heck we may even lead but we all seem to need a kick in the pants to get us started at the moment.

Well since we can't come up with a plan Dean says.....
10am bp linwood. Through the tunnel, round the bay, over the hills and far away. Lunch will be a picnic up the hill somewhere.
That's a meet at 10am depart not long after.
I say ok to that, but packed lunch is a bit scary.
mmmmm might pack a flask, cold toasty and an apple. Not so scary after all.

Sounds like a fine plan... Particularly the flask, cold toastys go okay too, no need to pimp them up.. cheese and marmite does the trick every time!
