A beautiful day to ride South to greet fellow riders from around Southland & Otago. I estimate 80-100 bikes turned out for comraderie, pork spit sammies, and the occasional beer.:woohoo: A nice badge was minted for the occasion too. The Publican gave prizes for best bikes etc and then proceeded to wander around the bikes handing out beanies to anyone in his way. Good on ya mate!
Forgot my camera BUT the best bike was a 1975 Suzuki RES, a water cooled rotary owned by a female invercargil rider & Bladerider97. :first:(Take note Jantar!)
KB'ers on site were Tjwatt, Silvergrin (& Michelle), Xaria, Nighthawk, Scummy & Chrissiebimbo, & Phaedrus that I remember. Others??? !!!

Ah, it's an RE5 Chris - and owned by a lady from Balclutha - and Jantar knows the bike well!!
But great to catch up with you and the other KBers - especially Phaedrus who was on his first big ride since his 'oops' almost a year ago.

Well we went down to Balclutha this morning to have a look at the new Farmers Market - I gave a great big wave to the bikes leaving Scummy's place just as we went past - AND NOT ONE of you waved back ( maybe it had something to do with the big diesel burning beast with trainer wheels I was driving??)
Sounds like you had a good day - it was a great afternoon for dirt biking as well and at least we managed some of that
Great to see Phaedrus getting out and about

I sure do. Its the very first RE5 I ever owned. I have worked on that bike many times over the years, and know its complete history. Mechanically, its probably the best RE5 in the country. Although it is a 1975M model, it has the 1976 rotor housing and seals.

whats needed in the way of entering?
besides the obvious bike/ helmet /riding gear????
Not sure if Ing'll are same as Otago but the Otago HAGD requirements for the Levels day on the 8th Nov are :
Riding gear requirements:
? Full face well fitting helmet less than 10 years old meeting NZS1884 as a minimum.
? Eye protection (goggles or a visor)
? Leather gloves
? Boots offering ankle protection and of sturdy construction preferably purpose made motorcycle boots
? Back protector
? Leathers, one or two piece are preferred but we will also accept the following:
o Kevlar riding jacket and trousers
o Cordura riding jacket and pants in groups 1and 2
Motorcycle requirements:
It is your responsibility to ensure your motorcycle is in a safe working condition.
Items to be checked as follows:
? Tyres in good order
? Brakes functioning correctly and in good order (brake pads included in check)
? Wheel bearings
? Steering head bearings and adjustment
? Swing arm bushes
? Spokes, adjusted and complete
? Sprocket’s and chain adjustment and condition
? No open ended handle bars are allowed, must have ends or be plugged
? Levers must have the “knobs” on the ends
? Mirrors removed
? Glass/lights if not removed will require to be taped over with a durable material such as a cloth tape
? No dangerous fittings that could cause injury (pack frames etc)
? General check for loose nuts, bolts etc
As well as the above Otago requires you to be a member of a MNZ Affiliated Club so maybe SMCC have the same requirement.

No, That is one problem no-one can ever fix. Its due to the extremely high combustion temperatures, and the crap that gets added to our fuel. However one thing that you can do to minimise the problem is the keep the idle air filter clean.
On top of the carb is a little alloy cylinder held on by a single philips head screw. Undo that screw and the cylinder comes off and lo and behold is a small gause filter not mentioned in the owners manual. keep that clean, and the bike runs smoother at low throttle, and is less likely to foul the plug.

Thanks for that advice Jantar, I will check it out.
I bought a plug adapter on Ebay that allows you to use a modern Iridium plug (good thing since they dont make the other sort anymore). It also moves the plug tip further back up the plug hole. It used to foul the plug everytime I rode her, but since I put in the above set up, I have not fouled a single plug. It may have been a bit early to say I haved solved the problem, but so far it is looking good. I will keep you posted once I have done a few more K's.

break myself into my new bike
kinda like breaking a horse in I guess? gotta get used to everything again, completely different riding position, close ratio gear box, its all different compared to the 'ol 125 where I sit quite straight up and down.
but :( I got the bike to ride.......but only with a dealer plate. stupid LTSA couldnt make a decision as to if they wanted to put the old vin number back on the bike, or issue it with a new one. So yeah, next week it should be on the road properly

Also those dirty polluting round motors dont have air flow across the plug like a four stroke or multi transfer port two stroke to keep it clean. That is the main reason they are hard on plugs. Good to still see RE5's are still around though, 70's & 80's classics aren't seen to often these days.

Well had an awesome day, met at the southern, and was a good turn out was a mix, this site members, the other site members, and non internet members. However we still had no idea what we were doing for the day. After much discussion and umming and arrghing it was decided that we will go to Alexandra for lunch, via Lawrence, where we found out that Fatzx10r water broke... we were thinking that Silvergrin's wife Michelle should have come she would have know what to do...
On to Roxburgh for a quick fuel stop, and then Alexandra and the Badger Bar for lunch.
After an imported burger with badger meat and after thought feed of wedges we were on our way back via Ranfurly and Middlemarch. Most turned off at Omakau, while a couple of us went via the top road through Lauder and Becks, and timed it perfectly as we past the Ida Valley junction, we saw a couple bikes ahead, and couple of bikes still coming down the valley road.
Into Ranfurly for fuel and a bit of a rest and chin wag. On our way again turning off at Kyeburn into hide and to Middlemarch... Our spidey senses were working and working well... on the long straight Mr Plod sitting in the cover... then a couple more km's down road mr plod number 2... we all waved and said thank-you spidey senses...
Into Middlemarch and a coffee break and off again to Outram, Me Cold Comfort and Hayden went up and over 3 mile hill... and home.
Simply put... awesome... perfect day, brilliant day, I could afford the petrol. There was a hint of wind on after Middlemarch but nothing really to write home about...

its only water
Only trouble with water, is it makes bike dirty, I had strict instructions to keep it clean, as it still has to get vinned. :innocent:
Sounds like that was a good ride on monday, wish I could have gone, but alas dealer plates and a 30km radius from the bike shop :( Did however go on a nice ride with Heinekin, went out to Aramoana, and sat in the sun for a wee while, then came all the way back, down 3 mile hill to a mates place, then went back up 3 mile hill to Heinekins place, and then I went back down 3 mile hill and back to the boyfriends place. Was a lovely day for riding, was certainly getting used to the new wheels by that stage, did a few km's over the course of the weekend. Might have to try and come on the next Dunedin ride and meet a few of you guys and gals, by that stage, I should have freedom :headbang:

The club meeting is on tonight Tuesday instead of the usual Monday so if they have a new date I will post it here.

Yep - that was me. I also got to have a go on a friends lovely blue Yam 600 so may have been in the same class as you for a couple of sessions. My god sportsbikes are sooo much more fun on that long teretonga straight, 50k difference in tops speed to the Motards woooohoo! There is usually a reasonable contingent of Dunedin riders at any Teretonga or Levels meeting. Say hello to any of us and the Ingll boys are quite friendly too.
Don't forget that if you want in on the Otago Clubs Have a go day at Levels on the 8th November you must pre-enter by the 5th November as you can't just turn up like you can at Teretonga. PM me if you want a copy of the entry form.

the easiest way to get there is follow all the signs to the airport, then instead of going left into the airport you go straight through and take your next left, which is kirks drain road.
now the drags are held in the next block of KD rd, so carry on along the road for about 3k then you have to go right and left again onto KD rd
should be signposted tho

i checked it out last night and they do just just fit.
its that tight i have to cable tie up my WR's pegs and also take off the clutch lever on the CBR.

We went down and had a look at this machine last week and rode back as far as Milton with them (got sick of 90km/hr with traffic building up behind the group of bikes so we diverted off and attended to some other business)
A great piece of machinery for those in a wheel chair and with a hankering to get back on the road in something like a bike - while it was probably quite capable of going much faster than this girl was riding it, I could imagine that the way it reacts to bumps and corners and not having the control over your legs and body that the rest of us have to respond to and move the bike, it was probably fast enough.
You could see the thrill in her face from her section of the ride (Invercargill to Dunedin)
Not cheap though - around $75K NZ

We are going for a day ride to Wyndham on Sunday. We went to Teretonga last year and it was fantastic.
Probably leaving the Mobil Garage on Portsmouth Drive at around 7.30am. We may go via the Catlins and then double back to Wyndham. Unless anyone knows of a sealed road from the Catlins to Wyndham.
I will post a more accurate departure time closer to the day. Feel free to join us. The more the merrier. (b.t.w. On these trips I cruise, I don't race - I quite like having my licence!)

The best way to meet the KB crew is to head to the Danseys Pass gathering this weekend - at this stage you won't get a cabin but if you can squeeze a tent onto those street legal missiles you call bikes, then there'll be plenty of room.
Paula/Xaria is taking a car up and has offered to take gear for anyone needing that.
it would be good to have a KB ride day sometime soon though - maybe another "Latte's in Lawrence" ride

Looks like the Dunedin racers are split this weekend. Seems some are going to Invercargill for round one of the Summer Series at Teretonga on Sunday and others are going to ChCh for the either or both Motards/Cams day Sat and Rnd 3 King of Ruapuna on Sunday.
Good Luck on the new KTM Scorry (hayden) I expect to hear of epic battles with the Ingll guys when you get back!

Not 250 rides as such, but there's a regular ride on a thursday. We are encouraging new riders to come along and look at gearing rides to those who are there, so if there are new riders, it's a nice comfortable ride. If more experienced riders, then look at something a bit more challenging.

what an awesome track, but its too fast for the motards to have any chance against the road bikes.
I managed 8th overall out of 27, so i am happy enough with that.
got my fastest lap into the 1.49's, which is fast enough to put me in the top 3 motards that race up there.
