SOT is usually a really good meet, A lot of motards go to it, Bruce Telford will probably be running his motard there. I think you should do it.

SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) refused to take the bike to her sister's birthday party in Invercargill so we spent the best motorcycling weekend of the summer reminding ourselves that we need to replace the filter on the AC in the car because it doesn't go very cool any more :(

Scorry, what are the details for the mini TT.

...
The Mini TT is actually a Fun Day. It incorperates a road ride from the clubrooms to the track for road riders leaving at 10am, a BBQ and some fun track time. I am not sure but think the only "proper" TT racing will be for those entered in Clubmans Series, the rest is low key emphasis on fun. This event is the first Clubmans round for the year. If you are not in the club come along and join up as we have heaps of fantastic events planned for this year.
See the flyer extract from the next newsletter and a Membership application below.

EDIT: Forgot to tell you the important bit. Date is Sunday 22nd Feb.

The OMCC organied a ride to Palmerston to meet the SMF coming South. 12 bikes eventually departed MCR leaving about 1.00pm. KB'ers NH, Xaria, Phaedrus, Hayd3n & myself amongst others ventured North via the Evansdale - Karitane loop road. I swear that road is getting worse for wear, esp for my kidneys. There are little tricky bits that can catch you out if you are not concentrating enuf. We turned off @ Goodwood & took the back road in to Palmerston, a nice winding scenic route arriving about 2.00pm at "Derail Cafe".
4 brand new Harleys (2 Soft tails, Dyna & Rocker) rumbled in soon after we had finished our espresso and it was hongi's all around. 4 brothers & an Uncle (Large back up truck sign written for the occassion) from Kaitaia. We stood around chewing the fat before heading South in convoy to regroup at the Pine Hill layby entrance to Dunedin.
There we met comedian "Pio" Terei who was waiting in a rental car as he had flown down from Auckland. He is on the "Eliminate Family Violence" Trust and is making appearances at selected Marae stops throughout the tour.
A slow convoy through Dunedin & on to the Shetland St Marae where we were officially welcomed with speeches, singing and entertainment.
The brothers then spoke individually about their cause then Pio talked of the work of the trust.
A very interesting afternoon for me as I had never been on a Marae b4. We didn't stay for kai but we would have been most welcome.
The tour heads to Bluff today, Queenstown 16th, Greymouth 17th etc Back to Kaitaia on 24th for a street parade.
PS; I forgot to take my camera, doh

Glad you enjoyed the experience of the Marae, and was it an honour to be accepted and welcomed like that.

The cause the were making aware is very important and as the Super Maori Fullas said its across all cultures and has to stop.

Anyway the ride was a nice ride and I also swear the Evansdale Karitane coast road is getting worse and worse as XKNuts mentioned it was hard on his kidneys and I just found it hard going all over.

Annoyed that I missed that ride now.:(

Was doing overtime yesterday and didn't finish til 12 so wasn't going to get there in time to leave with you guys. Now realise that if I had taken the direct route instead of the scenic one, I could have caught up on you guys.

Hell! I could have even waited at the lay-by for yahs later. I live just up the road and come to think of it, I probably heard you all come back into town. Can see the road between the overbridge and that wide bend below it from the balcony.....

I just sent out this email to those on the OMCC newsletter list.
If you know anybody intending to go there tomorrow can you please phone them and advise them it's cancelled.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just got the word from Alan Henry that the Mini TT and Family Fun day for tomorrow Sunday is cancelled due to 4inches of standing water on the track.

Instead there will be a BBQ Pool and Darts tournament at the Clubrooms at 1pm tomorrow Sunday 22nd Feb.
Please attend this as its a good way to spend a wet day with a bunch of nice people and Nigel has already got the sausages, so we need to eat them.

I don't know if clubmans points can be earned on the pool table!

Im thinking about heading up, could maybe do a group ride to it if we get a few?
I dont think you have to be a member to go, its just $10 more if you arent a member. The OMCC have back protectors for you to borrow if you need one too.
I have a copy of the entry form and a copy of their newsletter if youd like a copy pm me your email and ill forward it on to you

your better off getting your bike up there on a trailer. that way if you have a bin you dont have to worry about riding a broken bike back, or ridding broken

Thats a very valid point...... but I dont have a bike trailer, or a ute, or access to either. Unless anyone has a spare slot on their trailer?:Pokey:

Is anyone doing the BRONZ 45th Parallel ride?

I have looked at it - looks to me that fear of gravel roads means they are missing about 5 crossings of the 45th line - if the route include the Danseys Pass and Thomson's track over from Omakau to Tarris then it would be a bit truer to title. Anyone interested??

The BRONZ ride (which you'll need to book into soon as they restrict it to 30 riders) is definitely a sealed road ride - my point is that they go from the start in Oamaru out to the 45th Parellel sign on the side of SH1 just North of Oamaru, then head to Te Anau via the Lindis etc.
If they were really trying to follow as close to the 45th as possible they would go over Dansey's Pass, then through the back of Matakanui and over the Thomson's track - that route crosses the 45th about 4 or 5 times

Hi Guys. Is there anyone out there in the OMCC that is a rally nut and keeps track of whats on where and when in Sthland-Canty area? I would like to put a list of upcoming rallies in the OMCC Newsletter. I keep track of the Road race events myself but not up to date with rallies.

Also while I am on the scrounge, does anyone have a pic of a bike, preferably loaded with gear in snow? Want a pic or two for the artwork for the Brass Monkey. Must not have copywrite issues on the photo.

less chance of binning when all traffic (bikes),are goin in the same direction, and its a smooth race track surface , compared to goin for a tootle down peninsula, with uneven road/stones/rocks/tourists/cyclists/runners/buses/raoad works/oil/grit/oncoming traffic/ you get my point????
you dont have to race on track days just go as you are comfortable goin

yeah what ever. i was just pointing out that if you do come off, it's a long push back.

true it's not a race at a track/have a go day. but most people give there bike shit on the straight's, reaching some high speed's. and ya might get the odd hero that ride's like a fuck wit

Joined up with XKNuts and OutbakAl , plus picked up Scumdog on the way through Balclutha for the ride down to the British Bike day - then came back through West Otago and Lawrence and decided to stop for a coffee only to find the Dunedin KB rabble had taken over the garden!!! Great to catch up guys and to meet a couple of new faces.

Outback Al has turned into a bit of a cop magnet though - the first one pulled out and followed us from halfway down the new motorway through to about Allanton - by that stage XKNuts and I had left him behind. XK because he didn't realize we were being followed, and me because I trusted my speedo enough to pass Al and then take a few opportunities to extend the gap.
Poor Al came through Waihola and the cop we had seen on the roadside at the far end of town decides to turn round and follow him to somewhere near Milton - makes me wonder though Al, you were only a couple of minutes behind us to Scummies place - you must have given that right hand some serious work after Milton!!!

This does raise another question though - how fast are you going when your speedo says 100kph ?? There seems to be a lot of variation between bikes. I know one mate I rode beside was indicating 120kph on his and mine said 110kph. Al's bike said 102 and I thought he was only doing about 96 - so I passed him. Without getting a GPS to watch I don't know if mine is right or wrong (although I am pretty sure its close to right after that first mate checked his against a GPS and found it was over by about 7%)

Mine was the same, I put a corrected face plate on my speedo (from the states)

Passed a mufti (Camry) on the way back from the coast, he was in the middle of about six cars. He must've been half asleep as he didn't flick his radar on till I pulled back in, he eventually got passed the cars and caught up, followed for a while with the radar on then the disco lights came on:Oi:

Got a lecture about passing etc

Just as well he didn't get a lock or I would've been walking:weep:

Parked @ the Southern Hotel, Outbakal & I were waiting for Ruralman & Princess Fiona thinkin we should not have worn our merino layers, it was hot & we were steamin! But once we got movin it was all good.
Oblivious to the "Traffic Cop" dramas behind me I pressed on, the Hurricane was comfortable @ 70mph but the weather got damn cold & I was pleased I was reasonable well wrapped. I knew my speedo was correct coz Xaria had previously lent me her GPS and it all checked out correct.
Called in @ Chez Scum to collect the "Fringed Wonder", we were late and were politely told so!
I was pissed I had forgotten my camera, & believe it or not none of us had brought one, :argh:
A rarity amongst the show was a "Hesketh" vee twin, approx 1985, of Lord Hesketh fame.
Al & I stopped in Gore on the return to look at the Southland Steam & Traction Engine working display. Well worth being sidetracked.
It was now very hot again, leathers / merino and hot sun dont mix! :sweatdrop
Lets hit the road, sun on our backs, a bit of heavy throttle, lovely day!

Well we're going to the "off the Rails" - the route to get there will depend on the weather and if any KB'rs end up here on Friday night and are itching for a backroad excursion.
One such route is via Millers Flat, Lake Onslow, Styx, Dunstan trail via the Loganburn to Clarkes Junction - very weather dependent.
My 17yr old son is hopeing to borrow a bike to ride to the rally - he has been offered one but I don't know if he'd want to ride that route above on it. Are there any other learner 250 riders going? (on slow 250's eg a GN)

12 usually. Working in the sheds round at back beach at the moment.

It'd actually be quite cool to hang out with anyone that wants to show up for lunch.

Hopefully it's not wet tomorrow cos that rail is a prick to ride over in the wet and there's often two puddles to drive through when you go past the logs. The second puddle can often extend over the whole lane if there's been enough rain.

If that's too daunting could always meet in some other part of Port....

Sorry I didn't get to the BBQ on sat, my bike was not running and had my Mum and Step-Dad over for tea.

Did not get to go out taking photos on Sunday either as was fairly late before got the bike running, turned out to be a faulty spark plug preventing it from starting.

Went to hop on the bike this mornign to take it to work and damn same thing happening again. Hopefully it gets fixed tonight though.

If fine weather this weekend might look at seeing who wants to go for a blat and take some cameras. Poss down to port, then along the top road back with plenty of stops for photos.

Failed WOF yesterday due to the racing slick in the rear... honestly, there was at least .5 to 0.25 of a mm still there before the wear indicator...

oh wells Brand spanking new michellin to waste away now and a WOF sticker to boot!

Can't make it this sat, going on a tramp with my tramp out west coast way.

I left work at 3:30 yesterday and did a loop of the portabello road (came back over the high road) then shot through town and out to aramoana and back to port chalmers then I went over blueskin road into waitati then blitzed it back along the motorway to town. Motorway was fun, I had some dude in a modern Ford explorer not wanting me to go past him so he had the throttle pinned to the floor nearly all the way into town which suited me just fine. Left a good deal of distance between us and I used him as bait for any cameras or men in blue coming the other way. best end to the week ever!

(though he did needlessly over take on double yellows when he came across a heavy truck going down the motorway into Dunners)

Must help him sleep at night to win all these imaginary races?!

wicked bike man, my first bike was a cb250rs, tought me heaps.
good road round your area would be up past normany pub up to the top of mt cargill and over to waitati.
lots of twisty corners but its a bit bumpy
if you can ride that road alright you will be sweet anywhere

i recommend keeping clear of the motorway with the whole 70k speed limit, i found it just too dangerous cos trucks are always pushing to get past you.
I took my l plate off when i went on the open road (sshhh)

As previously mentioned, the old road into waitati is a good one, but is quite bumpy, can't stress that enough. don't be fooled by the open speed limit. most cars probably ony do about 80 around there so you won't be out of place doing 70 if thats your comfort zone

If you're feeling daring, you can scoot 3 k down the motorway to warington and ride along the coast rd to Karitane.

Yep sure do - almost everyday - but theres probably a good reason for that !

Make sure you mark in your diary the Lake to the Sea Trail ride which I believe is on the 31st October. It starts just up the Taieri Mouth road from Waihola. Its a pretty well organised event and one of the bigger rides around.

It has a good balance of track options with tough optional loops for those that want them. It goes through farmland, forestry, bush, and a blast along the beach plus a few forestry roads as well.

This might be worth starting a thread on because theres a few remote gas stations (Clinton will be another one shortly) that will have 24hr card pumps but will only have 91 and diesel. Could be useful to have small bottle of octane booster stored on the bike for emergency fills at places like this. I'll start a thread

I often struggle to understand how some think they can dictate how other people run they own businesses.

If it is not economically viable to ship and store a poorer selling product, who are you to tell them that they must do so?

Would it make you happier if they did as you demand, and went belly-up in the process, and shut down altogether - like so many provincial stations before...?

Some petrol is better than no petrol. Be thankful that they're continuing the provincial struggle.

I hope to be burning up some 2 stroke smoke around the Danseys pass trail ride that day so probably won't be there.
I'm going to try to attach a couple of word documents from ACC - the figures are different to those being printed and circulated by BRONZ. Now don't get me wrong - I'm as pissed off as anyone about these proposed changes - BUT - when you read this stuff you can see why they are trying to make the changes.

I have put in a submission and I wrote my own one rather than just using the BRONZ template - if I'd had this stuff beforehand rather than just the BRONZ info then I would probably have done the submission differently. The thing that worries me is that when you look at this information, assuming it is correct, ACC may well just put a line through all the BRONZ info based submissions because they are based on false figures.

NighthawkNZ

f I'd had this stuff beforehand rather than just the BRONZ info then I would probably have done the submission differently.

sorry but thats the same crop of BS ACC have been saying all along nothing new... every vehicle subsidising $77 = 199million dollars. which 149 million more than required.

First thing we have to realsie ACC was designed to cross subsidise, it was not ever designed to have the so called seperate accounts and should go back to having the one large fund pool. It was designed that we use ALL the resourses to cover the costs, and that is why ACC is classed as cheap. But it isn't an Insurance never has been and never should be, if the keep these seperate accounts it simply means higher levy's so they can privitise it

12.3million dollars does not count the estimated 9 million in fuel levy from bikers, it does not count the fact that 99% of bikers also own other vehicles some own 2 or 3 as well as 2 or 3 bikes and can only drive on ride one at time, plus the fuel they use in those vehicles. Simple math shows that there are more vehicles on the road than there are licensed drivers and riders.

Simple business 101. Put the levy up, 12.m is going to be a good year. Less people will register, and will have the same number of accidents, and less money and since they pay ACC in fuel, and PAYE (if working) then ACC can not turn them down...

Your PAYE ACC levy covers anything (and I mean anything) you do as a citizen including riding your motorcycle or driving a car, and the levy you pay on your rego and fuel is technically is only a top up. And that is the way ACC should be run drawing on the full resourses, not the sub accounts.

The simple fact is ACC did not loose any money despite what the those idiots say it has 11billion in the bank and banked 1 billion last year, fuck its the only government dept making money...

They predicating too many unknowns, inflation for costs for the next 10 years and how many are going to require those costs just so we can be fully funded by 2014, based on the previous year when the accident rate is been falling since 1987 and data from the Mot which not entirey acurrant in it self. the bike accidents in 2008 in Auckland and Canterbury 43% of them didn't eveny put the cc rating... if they can't get this right then ALL other data becomes questionable. And the remaing info showed that most accidents went 250cc which shows our arguemnet that its learners which is to be expected.

Yes nighthawk I agree with everything you say - my point is that when going in to do battle you need a clear idea of how the enemy thinks. These documents outline how they think and in order to change their thinking it is often better to come in from the side and change their direction rather than hitting them head on and make yourself a target to simply give them an opportunity to reject your argument because your figures don't line up with their data.

Its more about the way you argue with them. Anyway there should have been heaps of submissions and many lines of attack made so hopefully they will see the sense and make changes

Just thinking about the bloody ACC thing and the expense of having 2 bikes to rego and only being able to ride one at a time - maybe there is a good case (and I wish I'd included this in my submission) in being able to move a regn plate from one bike to your other bike so you only have one registration.

You'd have to be able to move the same plate rather than argue for a discount for regn the 2nd bike - otherwise they would expect half the bikes to get discounts as all of a sudden people own 2 who don't really own them but share the reduced cost with their mate....

It would move to regn of the owner rather than the machine - with the computer system changed so it could cope with that regn number having multiple bikes against it (and their chassis nos. etc)

Does this make any sense?

You'd have to be able to move the same plate rather than argue for a discount for regn the 2nd bike - otherwise they would expect half the bikes to get discounts as all of a sudden people own 2 who don't really own them but share the reduced cost with their mate....

It would move to regn of the owner rather than the machine - with the computer system changed so it could cope with that regn number having multiple bikes against it (and their chassis nos. etc)

Does this make any sense?
i like the post and the argument for it but shouldn't it be under its own thread????
it would get a lot more views
