Woodman you are welcome to take the KLX if you need a bike (& have leave pass)You would be awesome on it I think.(piglet isn't allowed near it the dirty lil feral)

Cher for the offer, but am working in Christchurch this week and won't be back till friday night.

But more importantly, did you get up the havelock hill?

Why does everyone want to lend me their bike tonight? cheers mate, but am pretty sure it will be long hours. That or the company credit card will come out for some err refreshments with dinner.

Anything anyone in chch needs that they are hanging out for that I could bring just holler. Driving up Tuesday arvo, basically empty car, so have a bit of room.

If he leads you off suddenly to a track "oh yeah they used this in the cross country mumblemumble1984" then you will be ripped up with fricking blackberry, be typing that nite with fricking gorse embedded in your fingertips & have a totally rooted back from where the track turns from the shredding machine from Caligula to the twin gaping fricking chasms of doom which we have to somehow get past.
Hand guards anyone?

There was only one chasm of doom, the other was the chasm of death.

Go o.k. ? and did you go up the pylon track ? or take the soft option. And piglet wants a ride, 'cause he's thinkin of gettin one too.
BTW, while I'm here, is the ride still on next w/end ?

edit.... so whens it gettin the tenere paintjob ?
Lamb Valley laidback this weekend.

We took the soft option as neither of our tyres were what could be described as "suitable" and bugger push starting the KLX up there.

Came back through the Maungatapu though.

Right youse wusses...

There's going to be a "Trail Rider" class at the 4 X-Country races this season.
Starting off the back of the Juniors race and they're going to be 1 1/2 hour, non-competitive, no licence required and $30.

If you feel up to it then you can race the 2 or 3 hr afterwards for $notmuchmore (about $30 extra inc MNZ day licence).

The 4 stroke under 300cc class includes XR400, DRZ400, KLX400, DR350, TT350 etc.

3 rider teams as well. You all race and your points are added up...

3rd April for the first race...

20th March 2011, 19:29
Ok the story so far as the video gets uploaded to Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/user4303995/videos).

I trailer trashed it out to Lamb valley, an hour south of Nelson. Arriving at the first pits it seemed like not many people were turning up - oh well...
A very angry official on a quad roared around telling everybody they were late & to keep left on the road...okaaaay...

Further up the road was the real pits that was chocka block. I paid the $40 & got instructions of the course. The official told me the first hill was the worst (the long dry one on the video). I waited & watched a few guys race up - didn't seem that bad. I got up piece of cake really.

After going up a few more rises & down some chutes I realised that the official mustn't have ridden this course as there were quite a few worse knarly bits. On the website it is advertised as a family friendly route - WTF? The only family I'd send in there would be my in-laws. Catching up to a few dads & daughters on lil wheels I was impressed with the way they were cruising the slopes & over obstacles at their own pace.

There were many shortish steep dry clay rises hidden around corners & a quick twist of throttle was needed to get a bit of momentum up. Luckily the berms helped with line selection & acceleration outof the corners.

I was riding my new to me KLX400 & was impressed with the bottom end torque. I had on a new dual purpose tyre which was adequate due to it's sharp edges however a fresh knobbly would have saved me a few moments of grief. The suspension seemed pretty harsh so some playing around should either help or totally stuff it up.

Some parts were extremely boggy. Before fording a river on the 2nd lap I spotted a bike stuck in the huge mud bog that the A graders were to follow. Good pic I thought. When I zoomed in, the familiar red & white TT looked well stuck.
Mwahahahaaha oh heavens above could it be true? The mighty Nordieboy was making like a elephant in the mudholes. :shit:
Not wanting to miss a minute of this I took a few shots & short vid before helping him get the sodden swamp monster out. Nordie wimpered a bit when he noticed a spot of mud on his boot - nevermind about me thigh deep in poo:angry:

After a breather he took off as I went on the more sensible B grade route. Now the track was marked with 2 orange arrows for the A grade & a very close coloured red arrow for the rest. I rode past Nordie & the one arrow showing the direction of the track to land plop in another bog:facepalm: WTF? This wasn't there on the last lap!! Nordie got revenge with the video camera as I tried to get out. Seems that one of the A grade arrows had fallen off the post causing a bit of confusion.

Onwards & upwards the track flowed. There were some dust clouded descents with me riding on the very weak back brake, scared of face planting. Some parts of the track really had me out of my comfort level & pondering if I was actually enjoying it.

Luckily there were only two places that worried me. Both bogs with steep ascents after them. Nordie helped me up both of them & in turn I helped the next poor barstards get up.
The comradarie experienced was fickle. There were those that would give encouragement & a push (& give Nordie some fuel for the trip home:niceone:) while there were also a large number of cocks:angry: Some dick tried to pass a line of us riding patiently behind a father/ kid duo & ended up riding off the track ending up sumped out on a pile of branches - if I was closer I'd have pushed the lil prick over the bank.

Halfway thru the 2nd lap Nordie & I changed bikes. Frickme I'm glad noone had a helmet cam on them as I couldn't get control of the TTs front end. There were bloody limbs flying all over the place as I tried to hang on while the bike made full use of the track:facepalm::facepalm: Eventually my arms & legs got tired from being flung in a weird Scottish dance & settled down to their proper positions & I crusied back to the pits for a well earned sandwich.

Time was running out so the third lap would be a quickie. The stars must have aligned themselves & I ran that loop reasonably effortlessly. I had an off in a usual spot, catching the inside of the rut with the front tyre. I was learning to use the throttle to get out of trouble & it was working.

There was a shoulder height ramp on the back half of the course which I hit pretty confidently, got some good air & hardly even felt the landing - nice:yes:

I felt a lot better after the 3rd lap & left the pits for the cruise home feeling tired yet satisfied. I will be honest & say that parts of the track scared the crap out of me I wondered if I was getting too old for this carry on - a nice cafe run oin the airhead seems much more civilised:violin:

As far as doing the cross country races this season - I'll think about it. Today wasn't as easy as I thought it'd be & the idea of having some meatheads roosting me as they fly by doesn't really appeal at the mo. Still I may forget that in a few weeks...

NordieBoy
20th March 2011, 19:40
I find I have less meathead roosting moments in races.

The Trail Rider class goes off just after the juniors and you shouldn't really be lapped.

I'd be tempted to do that one and pootle around the main race with the camera.

Having a front end that's predictable is over rated in my opinion.

Hi NordieBoy, not sure if you know or not but the key codes for Edwards Pass and Mailing Pass are all done online now, nice and easy, type in your details and it spits out the codes for both. Linky is at the bottom of this article Edwards Pass (http://www.adventureguide.co.nz/articles/12/49/edwards-pass.php)

Please excuse incomplete data, GPX files, and map status. I'm using the new APIV3 and having to implement a few JavaScript workarounds to get the KML files loading, zooming, and then refocusing nicely, getting there but its taking hours of trial and error :sweatdrop

Get up early - poke nose outside - if there are gaps between raindrops gear up and ride 160km to St Arnaud by 9:30 (roughly). Fuel up - meet Nelson adventurers & ride through Rainbow 112km to Hanmer (direct, no side trips for me) then back through Lewis 137km to Reefertown and stay with Mrs who is working there for the weekend.

Big night out round Reefertown high spots... Return to Hanmer in morning and ride 185km through Molesworth then back home 283km via Wairau etc.

Sat 409km - Sun 605km - something of a mish..!

Dunno but what was the reason behind it in the first place

Maybe because an enduro is sort of a reliability type test so a cold start sorta fits in to that. I dunno really, only ever done one enduro and remember taking the bike off the trailer and kicking it over as you do, and then an official just about murdered me because it was a cold start event. Pain in the ass really cos you gotta push the bike everywhere e.g. scrutineering etc. Stupid rule.

warewolf
27th March 2011, 08:08
Enduro grew out of reliability trials type events, so starting is included in the race probably for similar reasons to tyre changes and work periods.

Yes they still do it. Enduro uses cold-engine format, but you have a period allowed to fire it up & warm it up before you start, 60 seconds? All the rules are on the MNZ website if you are curious.

Marlborough have just announced their 3-round XC series: 2hr race, plus sighting lap, dead engine start with rider 10m behind bike. Slightly different, in that you can warm the engine up first and then shut it off, and there's no grace period - fastest starter gets away first which is an advantage to the kickers.

Woodman
27th March 2011, 08:27
Down the coast all the hare scrambles were le mans starts or shotgun starts like that. Me and the boys used to practice them. No leccy start then but we used to have the bike sitting their with the kick start out (all 2 strokes btw) and we would run up at full pace and in one fluid movement leap over the back of the bike, grab the bars and kick the bike over, chuck it in gear (or leave it in gear and pull in the clutch, much debate over lots of beers about this) and we were gone. The IT was good cos the kick starters bottom travel ended on the footpeg so I could just flick it up a bit down the track.

Fcuk... Just realised how many years ago that was:facepalm::facepalm:

Padmei
27th March 2011, 11:26
My brother used to do them in the 80's - when Colliedog had long hair (In fact my bro bought his IT250 off him).I used to tag along on my dt175 & ride a it of the track.
There must have been a lot of engine carnage back then with cold starting then racing off at full revs.

What do you mean WW when you say kickers get the advantage? I would have thought leccy starters would be quicker? Or did I read that wrong?

Any of you guys doing to do the Xcs? I may give the first one a go & see how I like it.

Padmei if you can afford it get some real cheap NEW knoblies for the XC, you'll be amazed at the difference. Also amke sure you set your rear sag up as good as you can with the standard springs to lift the rear up and help the old girl turn, if you need a hand we should have time to set the rear before the start.

I'll be there early to set up camp and get the espresso on, any helpers/spectators are welcome to a brew.

Cheers Topo,

Main reason for dead engine/le mans/left hand on helmet type starts is that it instantly staggers the field.
There's no mass carnage as the whole field gets to the 1st corner.

Ahh well said. I went into CityMcs & Lester came marching out with a hammer & screwdriver muttering about it dragging its arse.A few hitslater the preload Lnuts were nearly at the end of the thread. He was mentioning either I may not have any gas left in the reservoir or the spring may be too lite for me. Are the stock springs usually liteish? He also set the comp & rebound on the front & rear for me to try out but & said the front iswaytoohardfor some reason. When I get the KLR all sorted & ready tosell I'll concentrate on getting the kLX set up right.

Such a glaringly simple reason for a xc type event however an enduro is staggered anyway.

Waiou might be bitof a mud bath this weekend.Kickers fire up faster. As woodman said, prime the bike have it just past TDC, blip the throttle to prime the carb, kick lever out, sitting in 2nd gear & clutch it. Bike fires up halfway down the kick, rev it & dump clutch. Meanwhile the e-starters are still getting those first few whirrs in before she fires... Off the line, tenths of a second really count.

Yes doing the XC, would also like to do Marlborough but that may be pushing things a bit - haven't checked the calendar. Last time I did Marlborough it was utterly insanely steep.

Waiau is almost always seriously wet. Always pack a fresh set of mud tyres for that one.

If Anyone walks up to your bike with a hammer and scerwdriver and actually uses it then somethings seriously wrong in the world, esp if your paying them!!!!!

what do you weigh? i'm around 86/87kg in riding kit wich works well with the std springs, returning the damping settings to std also made a big difference in the handling department.

Luckily I'm not paying to have someone hit my bike- he owes me a favour. We couldn't get the proper adjuster thing into the small amount of space without taking off the airbox boot which I couldn't be bothered doing since Iwas only getting a warrant.

No probs at all - the first largish creek near the St Arnaud end was much easier than I remember; just gravel bed (the previous concrete one is broken downstream of current ford). Much less water generally than last time (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/album.php?albumid=3163&attachmentid=189437) (pic is of ford past toll gate). Molesworth fords also similarly dry.

Had a up & down day today at the XC race. I travelled out with Crazyfrog & signed in for the trail bike class ride which coincided with the juniors race. Officially we were 'marshalls' & not required to have a race licence- saving us $20.

After the juniors went round for their sighting lap I rumbled off on the KLX. The grass was wet with dew & the first mild uphill had me off- twice. My dual sport rear wasn't up to the conditions at this hour of the day.
I slunk back to the pits with my tail between my legs & sulked. The boys weren't having any of that & Topo & Warewolf set about a quick tyre change with one of WWs spare tyres. Tho worn, it had quite a good front edge. 2 rooted tubes (one pinched & my spare rotten) later & with Topos new tube in place I was ready.

Crazyfrog came roaring back in on the big EXC with a huge smile on his dial, loving it. I took off after the juniors had started racing to sample the rest of the track.

It was a pretty good track with a few little dips& the odd obstacle.I onlymanaged to get 3 laps in but by the end of the 3rd I was getting a lot more confident.

We watched WW & Topo start the main event. It was a Le Mans start & Topo got a blinding start & roared off competing for the holeshot 300m further down the first straight. WW made up for a bad start with an outstanding 1st lapcoming in not too far behind the leaders.
Interesting after the discussions about starting techniques, the quickest off the mark was a YZF with electric start by a long way
We left after the 2nd lap but the speed that the guns were running at was impressive for this nana.

Cheers boys for the help today & I'll sort out a tube for you Topo-what's the closest bike shop to you? i'll call them & pay for a tube & you can pick it up when you're passing.

Gotta get a new set of bars & new rear Knob before the next one

Nice pic of Topo in full flight there Nordie.

Cheers for the couple of good laps we put in together yesterday as well, all good fun, and great to pace each other.
I loved the course, nothing too technical, just hard and fast, and had good grip all day once the early dew on the grass dried out. I think I only got passed by 3 of the fastest juniors (oh no, I just got owned by some kids), first one on third lap, then 1 each on consecutive laps thereafter, so happy enough with that. Bearing in mind, us non-competetive "marshalls" did stop occasionally to help fallen comrades.
I've really gotta concentrate on some more bike fitness now, I was getting some arm pump on the last couple of laps and have earnt some nice blisters on my left hand from hanging on for dear life.
Top speed indicated down the airstrip was 127kmph:woohoo:

Spent 10min pushing an RM125 with broken clutch up that steep, off camber uphill left (hence the lying down looking at the clouds pic).
Helped get a bike back up a bank and it wasn't until after I saw the wasp nest he'd landed in
When laying out the track a post was hammered in on top of a wasp nest. They were still being chased 30m away :D

Cheers boys for the help today & I'll sort out a tube for you Topo-what's the closest bike shop to you? i'll call them & pay for a tube & you can pick it up when you're passing.

No worries mate, what comes around goes around, It's a 17incher so no real use to me now anyway as i've got no bikes to suit it.

Not a bad pic Nordie, got any more?

I had an up and down race, got off to a good start but had to stop after the first lap to put some air into my rear tire. It had 12psi when i started but it felt flat to ride on, padmei and crazyfrog helped out and i was soon back out with around 18psi which felt much better. not too sure how many laps i got in but could'nt catch WW who passed me on the first lap when i was having issues. Ended up stopping about 30min early due to being plain knackered.

Looking forward to the next one, but will have to do some upperbody training in the meantime.

Happy there were less bogs Warewolf?Happy I had a working clutch! Not sure whether dry hard unyielding terrain is preferred over wet slick stuff that has some give.

I had a pretty good day. Did a marshaling lap during the juniors/trail class. Had to dig out the tools to re-position some handlebars, then rode a bike back to the pits while the racer was ferried back in the side-by-side. He'd come off crossing one of the ditch hazards and landed heavily (he was alright after a rest). I didn't see the crash but the bike was in top gear when I picked it up and the bars were 45 degrees to the front wheel.

The race itself, I started on the second row 'cos I figured most of the MX bikes would get away, dunno why 'cos they didn't at the beach racing  I tended to catch them at ~100km/h. Had my only stall of the day trying to get off the line... bugger. Then spent most of the first lap passing people. Topo looked like he was touring, at least I was hoping that wasn't his race pace!

Laps 2 and 3 were a bit lonely and repetitive, hopefully faster as I'd learnt the track - especially where the worst hazards were - but also no keen MXers around to keep me sharp in the turns. Stopped briefly for fuel after lap 3 or 4, some chap helped which speeded things up. Finally got lapped by the leaders about lap 6; did 7 or 8 laps all up, lost count, and finished about 3h15m.

Got cased out in a rut about lap 5, they suddenly went from ridable to oh! sh!t in a lap. Didn't stall, but I fell over while dragging the bike backwards back in to the creek to choose another line because I put my foot down into the next rut. Arse. After that I almost stopped on the way in to the creeks to make sure I picked a usable route out, but the next lap I picked a boggy exit and needed help extracting the bike.

The bike was working really well. A few suspension clicks paid dividends in the unusually hard terrain. Raising the needle has fixed the off-idle stalling issue I introduced when I uncorked it last year. A fresh rear tyre (Vortix M02, a Michelin MH3 copy), the extra grunt off the bottom/mid, and maybe some skills honed at the endurocross certainly made all the technical riding easier. I was seeing mid-130s down the start straight but that made the dips and rises quite interesting. Nothing like a high speed endo into the braking area to upset your line and your underpants.

Ran 16psi front/rear and didn't have a worry with tyres. Didn't notice them, which means they weren't too soft, too hard, or to slippy. Later in the day had a few front end slides but I've had that S12 for a good few years (race use only) and it's shagged now. This fast dry day did it in, it's much more rounded than at the start of the day - an intermediate-mid terrain would have been better I think and not worn so rapidly. It wasn't a soft track.

The biggest hazards were the kickers scattered everywhere, my arms/elbows are quite sore from those, and the sheep ruts in the fast stuff that induced headshake. As time went on I learned where they were so I could avoid them or cross them at an angle, but had a couple of really big endos etc hitting stuff when I went on to a new line or wasn't riding aggressively enough thereby unsettling the bike. The big ditches were posted as hazards so I'm not counting them.

After about 90mins I was getting a bit tired and ragged, had some arm pump for a while and couldn't pull the clutch lever. Then I started thinking again, paying attention to good lines, being smooth etc and that lifted the speed, or so it felt. Just seemed like I was in the groove for much of the day. :woohoo:

A good day's riding. The best bit was nailing 2nd gear all the way up a steeeep hill for about 50m with a jump through the gate at the top, followed by a long flat downhill gradual right-hander where you had the bike on it's side wringing out gear after gear after gear. :sunny: :woohoo: There were some really enjoyable sections on that track, smooth and flowing.

Hmmm a bit stiff and sore today. :innocent:

Was looking at the Rainbow/Maling/Edwards etc but I think I'll just do a bit closer to home. Fill the tank and have a play around Ben Nevis before some of those hills get too slippery.

Follow that hill climb Padmei and I started up to the end etc...

If it still exists with the logging going on up there.

The one situation the trials rear doesn't help is mud with slick dirt below.
A few stones or a root and it's away but if there's nothing there to grip on...

The trials rear was so kind to the environment, I'd swear little green shoots were coming up in my wheel marks.
Fertilised by the poo shooting out my bum.

Was a nice ride today despite the main jet breaking it's thread and rattling around in the bottom of the bowl early on in the day, and we located Nordies jetting kit :woohoo: I think the Emporium needs a sort out.
Went to Picton then through the Port Underwood rd, Me and mrsJ had never been right through. We took a detour to Tumbledown Bay, and I wanted to go over to Fighting bay, but it turns out the road is private and locked up, chatting to a local there seems to be a bit of security in there aswell. I guess they don't want anyone cutting the cable and letting the North Isl drift away.
Despite the shithouse coffee I made, and the rain it was a good day out.

Bikeless weekend for me, camping in the rain out at Sandhills Creek (Anatori).

An observation: the only bikes we saw loaded up with gear were adventure bikes, and most were heading westerly, even today. Lots of sprotsbikes in Takaka and also over the Hill.

This weekend was not the time to ford the Anatori: the ford was 80m wide and the river almost over the road on the east bank. The Patarau R. just south of the bridge was 270m wide!! :gob:

Hi all. We're back in town after a family weekend in Hanmer. I did a couple of excellent mtb rides includin Yankee Zephyr twice- somewhere between 20 & 120 bermed corners -excellent for really reinforcing riding with wings out in attack mode & driving the front wheel thru the corners.

I didn't do any moto riding down there however read 3 moto mags & watched a very cool dvd of the Gas Dash in WA. Topo you should check it out if you can - very much like the safari. Got me really keen to get back onthe bike again

My back feels fantastic now after a few weeks of physio & a weekend soaking in hot pools so as soon as I got home I jumped on the KLX & shot up the Maunga for a quick blat. Very cool -apart from the rhs of the handlebar pretending it is a clipon:innocent:A relicformthe last XC.

Jatz you went right past our bach in Port Underwood. I've tryed to get the key from the local farmer (old friend of the family) but they aren't too keen on motos down there.
I have mtbed over there & back & to tell you the truth there isn't much to see. If you are keen on another explore I'd really like to take a few bods thru the forest - verycool scenery. I think I can get a key as long as it's not in middle of summer.\

I'm gonna ride next weekend if anyone wants to play.Maybe Wairoa gorge again?

The intrepid pair from Mot pulled in to home with a DR350 that wouldn't run with the throttle open...
Pulled the carb out and found the thread and main bit of the main jet in the float bowel...

Let's stick a DR650 main jet in there. What could possibly go wrong?

Well apart from actually finding a DR650 main jet that is.

A phone call was made to the Piglet and he headed off.
Of course just after that we found my jet kit...

So by the time he arrived from Mot, the DR was already going...

Nice nordie - but pics are not up to your usual high standards - gonna have to get your auto pilot button working on the bike.

I am seeing if I can get a set of renthal enduro highs in NZ. They are 130mm high vs the 90mm high of generic CR highs. I can get them from England for $121 incl freight (not GST tho however VAT was included). i would like to see if anyone in NZ carries them.

It's actually amazing the lack of NZ online moto shops & their pretty limited range of products- unless of course I'm not googling correctly.

It seems every dark cloud has a silver, er, no, actually a gold lining.
The dear mother in law in coming to stay for 4 days this weekend, and to say it mildly, we barely tolerate each other at the best of times:argue:
Why is it like this with bleedin' in-laws? Mine is as mad as a snake, so not unlike the forementioned reptile, I try to keep my distance for fear of being bitten.

Anyhoo, this possible misfortune could have been potentially worsened by hours of her sitting on my favourite sofa in front of my tv watching the bloody royal wedding, uuuuurgh, shudder.

So I put forward my insanity plea to the domestic judge, jury and executioner, and she grants me 3 days on parole, complete with ankle bracklet (cellphone), on best behaviour of course. Certainly a much preferrable option than the original sentence in custody with hostile inmates.

Yeee- feckin-ha, I'm off for the weekend, busting the joint with Topo and heading south to the border towns and beyond.:woohoo: :ride:

Warwick turned up on his very fricking fast looking BMWrss thing to get the mighty YZ off Lester for the VMX on tomorrow. Should be a good day of noise & arithic rattling bones. http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-133910-0010.jpg

60m ASL and we're off!
http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-133936-0011.jpg

About 60 secs later...
Past the first rise and onto the second...
http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-134754-0012.jpg

140m ASL and we're stuck!
http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-140252-0014.jpg

Quite steep and damp...
15 mins later and success!
I was 5m further up!
30 sec later and I was 2m further! Down, unfortunately...
http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-140430-0015.jpg

Sod this, I'm off to the secret entrance. Off the lookout corner.
http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-142728-0018.jpg

300m ASL is more like it.
http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-143340-0019.jpg

And if I trickle down the track, I get to within 60m of the steep, slippery bit, right in the middle there.
http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-143758-0022.jpg

Where I turned around and continued my upward journey as if nothing had happened...
http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-143852-0023.jpg

Thought 'd have a go at the east track off the summit.
But 50m later and I'm 2 wheel drifting to (hopefully) a halt in the wet grass before I hit the slip...
http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-144224-0024.jpg
I could see a second one less than 100m away so my mind turned to the possibility of having to push back up the blardy 50m I'd just came...

The TT must be sykick or just scared as it trundled back no problem at all.

Stopped for a Magnum at Havlock and just as my chocolate reserves are replenished, I see a pair of DR350's cruise by...

Time to deploy the Team America wave!

Mrs Jatz saw me.

Off through the Maungatapu to home(s)...
http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-154626-0025.jpg

http://sports.nelson.geek.nz/motorsport/mybikes/Trips/20110501%20Maungatapu-Havlock/slides/20110501-155800-0026.jpg

I had a play at the summit and gained quite a bit of confidence. Road up and down the bank!
Shit it was freaky the first time!

Sooo freaky it freaked out Jatz and he wouldn't have a go.
I tried to tell him that there was nothing to it and there'd only be 2 cameras recording it for posterity but he wasn't having any of it. The wimp.

Mrs Jatz would have done it but she came off earlier and hurt her ankle. Quite funny to see her riding with a splint made of maunka sticks and bungys :innocent:

I took them on a couple of easy side tracks. Nothing bad as Jatz and I were on road tyres :devil2:

Oh and the car was gorn when we got back!
Spooky

It'd be a cool ride over to look at it...
Its got a decent base but if the water is brown then difficult to tell how deep.
You can get up it with no run up though so pushing the bike through the water is an option...

I'm up for it...
