I hve to agree. Riding both Sat & Sunday reawakened the desire to get out there more. i think the warmer weather really helps too. maybe we should be a bit more proactive & organise more rides. I'm limiting myself to where I go tho cos the big beast isn't good for hard core stuff.

Yep. In the colder weather I seem to favor the pushies now...
Although we ARE house sitting right by the Aniseed entrance to the Starvall/Lucy Creek area...

Big bike friendly, just not sure about squeezing the bummer past the gate.
Although it may pay to scout the river crossing that may bypass the gate...

the forest,
Hori bay,
ride down the sounds,
over the bay on the road,
up the lake & porika

Given our penchant for swallowing time with tyre conversations & the like I think maybe a longer ride may be better when daylite savings starts.

Shall we see what the weather is like on Sunday? I am keen for a ride however if it's pissing down I will be in the workshop.
I would like to go up Mt Patriarch but a trip down the sounds is also nice. Anywhere that doesn't involve riding fast across clay.

Mt Patriarch has less tar I think & good views & elevation.

I ended up riding over to Totaranui. I felt alright as soon as I left the house. I am thinking these flu symptoms are caused by the bloody pines next to us - around this time every year I feel like crap but forget about hay fever till I put 2+2 together

Anyway the road around from Tata beach has had a frick load of work. It's easy to see how it slipped during the big rains - the hills are made of bloody sand. They couldn't push the slip off the side of the road by the look of it so must have had to cart it all away. Prob the slowest road I have ridden for a while - no constant road surface.
Saw Nordie going onto Whakatu Dr as I was going off it.

It's a nice ride out to Totaranui aye... Flick me a txt next time if you want some company. I only went up the Spooners then to Wairoa gorge and Lees valley.
I've got an avrg of 20.8km/l since I got the bike. It sits on about 25/27 with "normal" riding and gets up to 15/16 when pressing on :msn-wink:

17km/l is about wot I get too. Airhead? yeah wouldn't mind one, but been looking at another bike and like Marks, keep coming back to a KLR, and with all the fruit on mine now any other KLR would be a step back. It was running the best its ever run today too, I think it may have an inkling that something is up.

No it was dry as a bone. There were a few ambos going out there yesterday tho so may have been a crash or more likely an overfilled truck.

Righty O then. We will be experiencing the beauty of the Maitai valley followed by the exciting & often dangerous climb up the Maungatapu Track to the breathtakingly amazing Summit past Murderers Rock site of the massacre in the 1800s & down into the Pelorus Valley.
Along the way those with skills & curly toenails can do the side tracks & fall over etc whilst those with more sophisticated machines will amble luxuriously along.

We will imbibe a caffeinated beverage at the cafe, exchange some pleasantries & tall stories then return.
Our rendezvous will be the 1st carpark along the Maitai valley at 1pm. Newcomers as always are welcome.

The crosser has crapped it's bottom bracket. Probably only about 15 years out of warranty.

I rode the course today. There's one section I'll be walking even with the MTB.
Although, come to think of it, that bit may not be on the course. I did take a wrong turn at one point...

Met Tiff and Pierre up at the trig and Pierre tweaked my rebound damping and suggested I increase the sag from 15 to 20%.

He's also got his KTM 535 for sale.

The course is all DH except for a 2-3min flatish section near the end. That's apparently the bit that makes it "Super"...

Nope. That was the company going titsup...

Never fear little friend. Your birthday footage is in safe hands.

Now, what music should accompany it...

Bach, Dylan, Yo Yo Ma, Twisted Sister, Cultus Crescente...

No wait, that's a car...

I'll think of something...

you said sounds twice then. What time you wanna go? Girls going down the bach for a week so I'm baching it from tomm on. We could head out to prtage maybe & get a coffee - might be better if it's foggy to stay low but we could just be pay it by ear.

Jatz hasn't piped up yet so i'm not sure if he is in the country.

Where's ya batch mate? I'm on the bike for the next 8 days. Tomorrow I'll be around the Tapawwera area fishing for a couple of days, then to Leatham/Branch for a couple of days, up Mt Patriarch and the Goulter 4X4 track, then swinging by the top end up through Blenheim, Port Underwood, Queen Charlotte, French Pass and then back home to Karamea. That's the basic plan, but very flexible. Hit me up if you're around any of those areas and keen to catch up for ride
