Whole lotta pain head'n his way, if he dips the nose.

He'd flown it from Atawhai all the way to Rabbit Island to buzz the beach races (2008) and turned around and went back again.

From Stuff:
"He said he attracts plenty of spectators while out on test flights, and admits he refused to let his two daughters watch when he took it for its first flight just before Christmas.
That test flight ended in a crash landing, but a single bruise to his leg meant he knew exactly what adjustments he needed to make."

So that would have been Christmas 2007.

Some people have no taste, and they should be warned for giving people with even less taste ideas about their KLR's.

Take a pic next time you see it so we can be truely disgusted.

New Aprilia Tuareg with 750cc engine off the Dorsoduro and the Shiver with 21/18 wheels.

Soon to follow a 1200cc version w/ 19/17 wheels

The 750cc model should be out in November for the 2010 EICMA show.

Hmmm you like......yes no maybe.....
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to a report on Motociclismo, the new Aprilia Tuareg adventure tourer will be unveiled at the EICMA Show in Milan this year. The bike will be fitted with a 750cc parallel-twin engine (the same unit that’s also used on the Shiver and the Dorsoduro), steel tube chassis and a 21-inch front wheel, which means the Tuareg 750 will be fully optimised for off-road use.

Later, Aprilia may also do a more street-oriented version of the Tuareg, which will be fitted with a 1,200cc engine and a 19-inch front wheel. With bikes like the Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré and the new Ducati Multistrada 1200 having recently been launched and with Aprilia also joining the fray with the Tuareg 750/1200, it seems the BMW R1200GS is finally getting all the competition it ever wanted… :-)

Hmm, never seen an Aprilia Tuareg before but it seems they made them around '87 - '91 in 50, 125 & 600cc. Here's a 1991 600 single, at least this old one looks like a proper ADV bike.

Sounds promising, apart from the KLE500 there's nothing in the smaller bore twin cylinder sizes these days.

As you state the 450 & 550's are hardly ADV bikes, they are designed and marketed as razor sharp race weapons. While the Wee Strom is a great bike and more capable than it may first appear I'd be cautious taking it on rougher stuff, especially after seeing what happened to the cast rim on the TDM on the CCA.

I did miss out the Transalp though, that is a pretty worthy machine.

:girlfight: Mine runs...apparently, just no lighting at this stage. :o

DR250S Stator is leaving CHCH today hopefully, and the DR actually only has 17hp...though mine is 0.5 O/S now so that's got to be 0.1 HP given that it's 256 odd cc.

I'd take that Aprillia - it does look like someone stuck red stickers on JMJ's bike though...

Nice one Bugs.

I've got a picture of my Grandfather on his BSA just before he went to WW2 (spent 3 years POW, poor bugger).

One of the only things I kept after he died (aged 86) was the original BSA owners manual.

WTF.. if you think its cool mate put it on.

The original intention was for this thread not to turn into a DR vs KLR slagging match that a lot of threads seem to descend into. Happily though there have been bikes of both persuasions featured. Doesn't have to be cool though as it's a continuum from subzero (BMW HP2) thru to the 'why did they bother' (FT400)

Why doesn't he just ride the klr to the dirty parts. Won't need the Harley Ferguson or the trailer . Or is the harley, the trailer and the other bike a farkle for the klr??

The engines are anvil solid, so long as basic maintenance has been done.
The suspension will be aging, but thats what ya get.

This is not really the thread for this... but... :D

I had an ex-rental 1994 steamer a few years ago... 1998-2000. Took it from 60-80,000km; had no issues except the jetting was crook when I bought it, someone had either futzed with it or stripped go-faster bits off before selling it, but the dealer fixed it easily. Fantastic real-world tarmac bike. The rear shock was the best of all the Triumphs, 3-way adjustable, good quality and handling, and even at 80Kkm still worked very well - you could not say that about the shocks in any other Triumph of the time. The soft/blue cam setup in the Tiger made more power than any other 885cc bike up to 6000rpm, and then it was first surpassed by the Daytona Super III with Cosworth head, hi-comp pistons and wild/red cams. Torque curve shaped like a house, almost flat from 3000 to 7000 rpm.

The 1998 had Keihin carbs, partly because the earlier Mikunis had issues with wearing out the needle jets. So it should retain its fuel economy.

Okay on gravel roads but no good in boggy farm paddocks - as to be expected of this class of bike. TKC80 seemed OK but the rear only lasted a few thousand kays; didn't try anything comparable. Comfy and actually lower than the Trophy once seated, but higher with your weight off the seat due to the longer legs. Good fairing and lights. Did a Rusty Nuts Grand Challenge (1000 miles in 24 hours) on mine, was possibly better than the Trophy.

Rental bikes tend to be looked after better than other bikes, since they often get serviced ahead of schedule to avoid needing it while out on hire. Plus they need to present well.

Sprag clutch, yeah shouldn't be an issue in a '98. Part of the problem was also that the engine would start so easily they'd fire backwards slamming the clutch, so part of the fix was a reprogrammed ECU that didn't fire until the engine did two revolutions to gain some forward momentum. My '95 Trophy had the warranty replacement ECU but the sprag clutch still died... at 155,000km. Dicking around with my Tiger I found it would start and run easily on 2 cylinders, and start and run on 1 cylinder with a bit of judicious throttle!

I actually just browsed that one on TM myself. Possibly should have sold the Trophy back then and kept the Tiger. It was one sweet bike. :scooter:

Thanks for the trip down memory lane

Something inside tells me I shouldn't like it but I do. The red bull graphics always make a bike look hard core. Funny how their (redbull) TV ads are so lame when you think about all the things they sponsor.

True, Suzuki would never make a road bike that looked like that. Oh, you mean the *other* GS, made by those Euro guys who cribbed the GS designation from Suzuki? Sorry, as you were.

Looks nice, bet the guy has a garage full of old broken husaberg gearbox components too. I always liked the idea of the hussy's from that era but they were not reliable and relied on the cam chain to get oil to the top end :shit: Ktm introduced them to oil pumps and filters.

It's probably a revs thing. LC4s don't rev like the RFS engines. Got two oil pumps, just none to the head. Be interesting to see if the Rallye models run pressure-fed heads.

The LC4 engine has been around for donkeys and there hasn't been issues or they would have done something drastic at KTM with re-designing.....oil pump/no oil pump, splitting hairs at the end of the day...:done:
