This one is 1973 sideport
Told you all that Sudman had some cool bikes!
I'm officially in love with the side port, and the Baja especially with the big tank:love:
You taking them both to Martinborough on Sunday?
Might ride over the hill on the DR with Pikey for a look.
(If I get my shit together I'll bring the PE250 and/or he RM400 and ride as well! - wont be on the DR then though, they're good, but not that good without a sidecar!)

Where's the rear guard? Being a KLR rider, he's sold the unused portion of the seat, & the side covers. The fairing's been cut & shut / tilted foward to get more of a rally look going (actually likely so he can shift the bars forward). Otherwise it Woodmans bike...:pinch:
Edit - Okay, been to the auction. The rest of the bike is available separately. 1987, so has been tidied. And not showing the wear from the 100k kms he's states. Can see the work in this, but sorry, maybe not 'cool wall' to me.

Don't those 50cc racers have about 10 gears or something?

When we got home Mrs Padmei mentioned that she finally saw a bike that she would approve of me buying (the bane of many discussions we have over my potential bike purchases). As we were driving up to Kimmy's Farm for a ride I was raving on about it - "...It200N, wow I had one just like it, road it in the National 3 Day...fantastic bike...blah blah.." Stevie said "...if ya shut the fuck up, I'll give ya a ride on it!"

TC Christiansens "Hogslayer" was reliable enough to shut down lots of other drag bikes.
But the all time best ever cool drag bike pic would have to be Boris Murray at Bowling Green, Kentucky, 1971

That honda seemed very good value I thought with or without the christini effect. I think this is a good example of how the market only like incremental changes to bikes. In saying that Rokon have been building thm for many years, but we've already discussed that.

Its not a Honda, the whole bike is a Christini. Looks like a Honda, smells like a Honda, but its not a Honda. Its a Chinese copy of a Honda with christini AWD system on it, and its called a Christini not a Honda. This is why it is so cheap. AWD to the masses and all that. Its on advrider.

and a bigger front guard to go with the 21inch wheel, and whats with the 2 antena's poking out of the sump guard :scratch:Is that the Xchallenge motor ? Is there any more info on this bike ?
The antena's will be a BMW sensor to sense when the sump is near the ground so it can activate the Electronic suspension raising device, ESRD. This will automatically raise the suspension to prevent the sump from touching the ground, thereby being able to do away with a real sumpguard, and fitting a much lighter plastic one.

My experience with that model is that it badly needs less crap hanging off it, not more. I also seem to recall a couple of early ones for sale in Christchurch that went summat like "...40,000k's, full motor rebuild...".

I don't know how many there are left in New Zealand. A few DR750s still around, I know that.
The DR800s? I know of one at least, that sold on Trade Me the other day.....
To Me.....
Went to look at it today and ride it as well.....I will pick it up Saturday, looks like it will be a trailer job though as there is a lot of extras to come back home...Shit, it was great to get back on a Big! I realise my best riding was on that DR750s, loved it.....Comfortable all day riding, big Kms and really trouble free.
Actually, if I can rent a mate for an early start, I won't need a trailer. He could drive my ute home and I could ride...:)

I camped next to a guy from Christchurch on a DR800 doing the Dusty Butt this year. They trailered it to Fairlie without a hitch until a judder bar in the campground broke a strop and the DR came off the trailer breaking mirrors and bent the bars.
Saw them on the first day but not again after that.

Saw them again after the first day in Alexandra, he said it was a bit awkward with uneven arms but manageable so I assume he was able to complete the dusty!
