I found the same when I fitted an FCR to my 640E. Uses fuel more efficiently. Uses less pretty much all round except when absolutely hammering it. And by hammering I mean steady high revs and on and off the gas. More than I can sustain at my level of fitness and skill.
Heaps more fun to ride, and much more forgiving off road in the knarly stuff. I don't keep good records, but I suspect it is harder on tyres and chains maybe. And on the 640 it was pretty heavy in that area even with the BST.
