From what I recall there isn't a clear portion there; the owner was lamenting Honda's trick of using weird clips and plastic pieces molded into the fairing to retain the taillight... apparently after 21 years it's all a bit brittle.

It's no biggy OP, just fit a light and you're off. If you're desperate for a warrant, steal a push bike front light from your mum and tape if above the plate.
im just going to get everything replace apart from the tyre i'll just book it at a motorcycle store and pay for it....... this thread was just based on a tyre that shouldnt be replaced, i just quoted on the other stuff which i know needs replace, i just asked about the white light as i guess this was a shock after so many years and didnt even get asked about it, at the end of the day they are the ones that pass's you, i'll just never go in early in the morning to get it checked again, i'll just go before they close =) =) =)

Could be 3 day wofs...wouldn't change anything. Wofs aren't issued on the basis that items will be good until next time.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Yeah .. probably because ..

Wheel bearing fail ... potential accident ... (collapse or loss of steering )

Front Forks oil ... potential accident ... (tank slapper - been there done that)

Tyre .. potential accident (blow out - been there done that) ... (edit: now that I've seen the pix it doesn't look that bad .. but can't tell from a photo ...)

Tail light - pickie but required ...

He's a potential accident just waiting to fall off ... and possibly take one of us out, pedestrians - your kids, your wife ... etc etc .. at the same time ..

Do you want an unsafe bike on the road coming at you possibly for the next 28 days ??? (and no - there's no time off - it's 28 days - not 28 working days ... )

    You shut your mouth!!

I have a WOF on Boris until November next year - therefore, I have no need to do any maintenance or monitoring of anything until November.

Sheesh, what's the point in having WOF checks if I'm expected to take responsibility for my vehicles being safe?

Speaking to a guy that performs WOF inspections he advised that they have to make a judgement call and if they don't believe a component will last until the next WOF they are meant to fail it. Not sure how true this is, but if this is the case then it appears to an appropriate decision.

Why not try using some of the tread on the edges, tyre may last longer that way.

One of the questions on my WOF certification test was 'If a tyre measures 1.6 mm of tread do you a) pass it, b) fail it, or c) pass it but tell the customer that it probably won't pass next time.

I chose c - and got it wrong.

Apparently it's not my place to be making such a judgement call.

I believe that once a WoF has been failed, a person can only operate the vehicle to-from a place of repair or to the testing station.

Unlike in Germany, where if you fail a WoF you have to get a towtruck to take your car away from the testing station.
