Much better in the rural areas of Canty this time....no damage here.
This one really is the ChCh quake wheras the Sept one was Canty wide.

Just checking in. I was at work on the 5th floor of 7 over looking the square. House has new internal damage to add to the external from last time. TV, crockery, etc all trashed. No power, water, sewage etc. At a friends for a dump, shower etc. Kids OK, found one sister, still trying to find the other sister.

Thinking of you all down there.
Trip this morning was slowed by an army convoy heading south on SH1 Welly this morning, would have been in time for the early ferry so hope they were heading your way. Heard a Huey head south last night.
See our media can't get the stories straight, stuff at least. Seems our army has suddenly got tanks and are parking them in Chch streets. Must look good overseas but for us in NZ it would be better to report the truth, it was a LAV probably delivering soldiers to help in the search and rescue.

Farkin earthquakes....All safe, houses are bit of a mess. Think I'd be wise to ditch the speed triple for a dirt bike .
Alot more useful getting though the mud and rubble and traffic.

We have space here at home (just outside) Auckland. If any Chch people want to get out of there and have nowhere to go we'd be happy to put you up for a while.

    Sure puts things in perspective.

Must say i've been really impressed with the way the Canty folk have handled themselves in this and the earlier quake. Looking after each other, generally calm and stoical... I'm proud of you guys.

Civil defence, the emergency services even the govt... professional and methodical even in the face of these dreadful events. I know they practice but this is the real thing and it hasn't all descended into arm waving and shouting... major respect.

Haha got the dirt bike but don't have any gas!

Wish I could fine a way to help more than just doing minor things around home.

    Cheers R

Less impressed with some media who demand answers and stats from harried officials trying to save lives. Arrogant tossers...

The media is really pissing me off. All they care about is the number of dead. John Campbell is a complete cockhead who seems to get off on reporting this.

What about the tossers that talked to a trapped woman until her phone battery died? Holding up people trying to get to medical help? Trying to talk to people who are trying to communicated with trapped people?

The Christchurch people have their hands full with the quake and are doing well. Can the army please use the 'tank' the media reported to shut the media up!
As some have said the best reporting has been the silent pictures plus the off site facts.

I'm thinking of you all down there.

I was there over the weekend ... rode north on Sunday morning ... I was watching the pics on TV thinking Fuck I was walking right there on Saturday morning ...

At least I know my family is all alive. Don't know much else ... but that's enough right now ... and good to see the Cantab KBers checking in ...

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but there seems to be $50 airfares to and from Christchurch. I've got one or two couches that can be crashed on if someone sends me a pm (up in Auckland though)
