jack up the bike and remove the rear wheel and shock
copper.
don't use stuff that can burn
that stuff is crap and won't carry heat like copper or a aluminium/graphite gasket will
put them back in the holes wherever possible, and take photos as you go.
makes a cool timelapse of component disassembly too
WD40 and some rags
buy a big 4L container with a spray bottle and go nuts
the only things to avoid are tyres and brake components....
and after wiping it down it should put a temporary halt to aluminium corrosion and steel rust
CRC556 is NOT the same as WD40 and is NOT a substitute
So I got the nice new x ring chain and sprockets on tonight. Minus one tooth on the front.. It makes me laugh so much, in the service manual "use endless type chain, to fit chain, you must remove swingarm and rear wheel". Bollocks to that...
Tomorrow is rear pads, front brake switch and oil change.
Chur.
Thanks for that, I thought paper round an exhaust might not be a good idea:-p. Where would I get a copper gasket for it?
With the wd40, do you need to avoid the chain as well? That's the bit I worry about when trying to degrease frame etc. Ie will wd40 displace kero or chain lube? I have heard of some people using only wd40 on their chains so should be All good right!
Progress Report:
Took off the Carbs, going to overhaul them.
Managed to remove the radiators, got coolant everywhere.
Cleaned and scrubbed the exhaust pipes, looking quite reasonable now.

I installed a gear shift indicator today, took a bit of time,
Photos are of part way through installing it, I am now at the stage of just tiding up the wiring,
I havnt bothered with the Neutral indicator I will worry about that another time, I still have the standard green light indicator so it will be sweet, setting the sensors up was real prick with that linkage rod in the way, tried turning it upside down so it sat lower but it just made it worse. I also added a toggle switch under the seat, Was going to wire it into the headlight loom, but decided to have it on its own,
There is a small magnet on the gear shift lever that runs past the sensor changing it up or down on the indicator, at the moment everything is araldited in place haha I have sellotape holding it in place while it dries
