ok what about two CHCH riders who go around the big block in one day (1700ks) in less than 20hrs with an av speed of 85ks

so what you need to do is go out & ride some of these distance's before you run off at the mouth

Well this is a bit bloody rough. Lets come down hard on the coast to coast and any other endurance event (race or otherwise) that uses public road! Pretty much all these events result in people travelling along public space in a tired state.

I do wonder if people making such strong statements really actually know what an endurance event is about - regardless of the mode of transport. Endurance events are all about mind control/preparedness and maturity i.e. knowing when to pull the plug. Its a bit ridiculous when its publicly deemed that this is too bigger ask. Soon it will be decreed that driving from Chch to Nelson (400km ish) in one day is too long. Entrants in events like this obviously need to put extra effort into being prepared so a perception of what distance/time is appropriate based on every day travelling is just wrong.

Just because some people couldn't do it safely doesn't mean we all can't do it so it must be shut down. The ride is able to be completed within speed limits and safely if you are prepared and look after yourself. Lowest common denominator bringing us down.

Well either these roads are basically straight or you are being disingenuous around what is required to maintain an 83 km/h moving average on NZ roads.

The cops don't give a shit about moving averages, they're interested in amount of time spent above the speed limit in order to maintain such high averages. Not to mention the level of fatigue that is inevitably involved.

I'm not even going to attempt it on a Japanese crotch rocket. Maybe a good touring bike would do the trick.

This information is 2nd hand so may not be accurate, but indications are that there is some sort of operation going on against us.
It's a bit over the top from Inspector Richardson but those involved in the event should deploy an operation against the cops.

Was going to respond to this yesterday but the post was shaping up to be an angry rant so I canned it.

Once upon a time I might have wanted to enter a Grand Challenge, Southern Cross, TT2000 or similar, but those days are long gone.

I expect we have to forgive the Inspector her ignorance when there are motorcyclists on here who don't seem to be any better informed?

Ride safe people & good luck. Don't give her any ammunition.

I hope the event is another raging success and at the same time no tickets are able to be issued.
    That would show them.

I've seen the prep some riders have put in to their plans for this and am a little envious of their weekend ahead but ~1000km in a day is about all I'm good for (1000 miles would be a stretch) and not two days in a row, so here I am watching from the sidelines living through you.
    Good luck and be safe.

BTW very cool how there is no set route this year, just a lot of places worth various points scattered all over from which you pick n choose aside from a select few which you have to visit.

Did it a couple of years ago. 12 hours 20 minutes both days to do the 1000 km.
On the way back from the Bert Munro. Wellington to Auckland 7 hours.

I wonder if the police interest in this event is more to do with them not liking the concept of an organised group of males dressed in black with padding & helmets.....

I didn't print off the run sheets, but I did load the waypoints onto my GPS and noted on my route planner just what the photo has to be. I'm in Ch'ch right now, and I'll be at the start quite early if you want to get that data.
    Time to ride
