Spies is feeling the heat, but not as much as Rossi.
Ducati ignored the comments of all the riders who had trouble, when Melandri told them the bike was no good Ducati directed him to a psychologist. When Stoner won, the bike was obviously great. When he crashed it was his fault. So nothing was done to sort things until Rossi arrived.
Melandri has had a recent rant in the Italian press. We'll need to wait for an accurate translation but apparently he is angry with Ducati for not listening to the riders, and he's angry with the press for blaming him for the shortcomings at the time. It was only when Rossi failed to get to grips with the bike that the Italian press acknowledged there might be problems with the bike.
It seems though that there are only two problems with the Duc: the engine, and the frame.![]()
