ahhahaha, I hope you're trolling. That is gold! Did you even look at the picture of where that van is? Next to a park? Pedestrian crossing just down the road? Car reversing onto the street while the picture was taken even? Looks like an epic place to drop the hammer yeah

When they start sitting at 100k signs and ticketing people for going too slow on one side of it and too fast (although the dude in Woodend already does this bit) even when you're only slightly over (55 in a 50 zone, yes, they can do that) THEN you can start going on about freedoms....maybe.....=P

Whinging about a speed camera next to somewhere you should be extra vigilant anyway? Well....

Also, if you want to worry about your freedoms an unmarked speed camera should be bottom of the list at the moment.

Why do New Zealand Police force use family cars then covertly place mobile speed infringement cameras inside... black out all the windows then leave the vehicle unattended for several hours?
Isn't there a law about how dark tinted windows can be - something like 20%? Would make the camera a lot easier to spot if they had to legally abide by that...

35%, which as it turns out is dark enough to get changed behind in the middle of a campsite.

Good point... I wanted to bring this up... The speed trap the Police used is way toooo dark! I would not see in when I walked past to take the pics! What does that tell you? Well over 35%!!!

    They're allowed to be http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/fa...rors.html#film

Rear windows (windows behind the driver's seat)

A transparent overlay applied to a rear window of a car (sedan, station wagon, hatchback, sports car or convertible) must have an overall VLT of at least 35 percent.

An overlay fitted to a rear window of any other vehicle, including a stretch limousine and body transfer vehicle, may be of any tint level.

Any vehicle with an overlay applied to a rear window must have an external rear view mirror on each side.
Minimum VLT limits for tinted overlays for sedan cars Minimum VLT limits for tinted overlays for goods vans

It’s the method used by the GOV / POLICE to capture you – YOU ARE DISHONEST... its dishonest and against everything a democratic and citizen state is all about.

If a Police officer stop you you get point and a fine - LAW ENFORCEMENT - AGREED?

If a mobile camera gets you its what? No points just a fine... its not a deterrent it’s all about a revenue streams... there is no Police officer telling you what why or when... 2 weeks after the incident you get a bit a paper saying... you were caught on this day at this time and you now owe the GOV this amount.

Think outside the box and not like a sheep ;-)

So.. how would you do it? What would your KPIs be?

Personally, I just assume that their could be a speed camera, marked car or unmarked car on any road at any time. Its my choice to speed and my fault if I get caught. Don't understand the revenue gathering argument.

for those of us still young enough to remember when speed camera's were introduced, the reason stated then why there would be no demerit points was because the ticket gets sent to the registered owner and if that person was not the driver at the time then it would be unfair to for them to be given demerits for another drivers infringement, as i understand it if a vehicle is caught above walking speed then there is the option to take the licence from the registered owner unless they state who was driving.
all those that are bitching about hidden speed camera's and hidden police cars need to HTFU, if ya gonna speed then accept the consequences and get on with ya life, all this BS about revenue gathering and shit, lets face it if you don't speed then you don't get to pay fun tax, and yes i have paid my fair share of fun tax and probably a lot more than most but every time i have been pinged it has been a fair cop, and i can say from experience that the attitude test saves a lot of money.

You've made me feel old now lol...
Remember driving past on my 250 to deliberately set off the camera twice to check my speed during the amnesty period when they introduced them.
Half the problem with anything the govt does is they always spin the story when they bring new things in and then incrementally change things in the boiling frog method...
They'd cause themselves much less grief and scandal if they just said hey this is what the go is from the start...
Your right about the revenue gathering argument being debunked. Awhile ago there was a big oh wow style story about a Waikato highway patrol blitz catching 1000 speeding drivers in one month (patrol cars not camera).
Crunched the numbers over 30 days for the 8 cops covering that area and the money doesn't even cover the running costs of SV6 and wages etc...
It is kinda funny though as we're all getting ripped off much more though various govt dept inefficiencies and taxes than the cost of the odd speeding ticket but people think we actually need that other stuff they waste money on...

    I speed at times
I know the speed I am going at
I know that speeding is illegal (I don't make the laws I just live by them)
If I get caught I pay the fine.

And then I'm a good girl until next time

If he was marked or unmarked I was still speeding thus I shall take it.

You will also recall that they "would ONLY be used at accident black spots" then?

I note that the camera van was parked on a hill? Always good for a few extra bucks in the kitty.

Still, for those who think NZ officials are operating with malfeasance aforethought, it could be a lot worse.
