Snowbums site is a useful tool, but one I intensely dislike wading through. The use of different fonts, colors, & text sizing makes it a hard read. Plus he ends to ramble, because he is trying to get too much in.

Good luck with trying to find a wheel rebuilder keen to take on your cross spoke wheels. They are hard to get any accuracy on, especially once they are out of true. Most of the strength / weight is in the rim.

You can get stainless spokea & nipples, & you could replace them one at a time. Or rub them over with aluminium foil. Don't polish them & take the nickel off the steel, or you will soon have a bigger mess. Talk to Padmei about rusty spokes.

Funnily enough I was thinking about my spokes today & wondering if I would bother replacing them. I personally wouldn't worry about how out of true my rims were as the tyres always are out of true anyway & lets face it we're not riding at over 200kph

The guy in CHCH who rebuilt my Benelli rims only charged $318 to supply spokes and rebuild 2 wheels plus freight. Pretty good I thought.

i run tourances,i dont do mud and stuff,the tourances are fine on the typical nz gravel road,just watch it if you get into thick stuff!

Mark - I assume you're interested in tyres for your soon to be acquired PD - I believe a good compromise - one I run myself is TKC80 front and Mitas E07 rear. You could substitute Heidenau Scout for E07 - you had one of your DR Big didnt you when we rode down to the DB1k together

Thanks for that. The reason I ask also is that the seller can get a rear Avon Distanzia 3 for $168, I can also source rear Metzler Karoos at a bike shop for $150. (guy didn't want them, brand new) If anyone wanted these, there are two 130.80.17
I will see what the result of the wof tells me, then decide what to do.

Karoos good but dont last. TKCs can get 6000+ km out of them and good on road. I have K60s on mine at moment. OK on gravel. Bit sketchey on wet tar. should last ages. I have run a lot of Mitas E09s rears which I like but I had a 140 x 17 split where the yellow stripe goes aroun the tyre. Not impressed They are not tubeliss though

Well, I got the bike this morning, nice and early. I decided to bring it back through the Tapu-Coroglen road home.
Consequently when I got it to the bike shop, it was very dusty.
It failed the Warrant .......
The headlight and the tail light aint working...I must have either shaken something loose of there is a bad earth.
The bulb is fine, we put the probes on and it looks like an earth issue, no biggie. Everything else passed with flying colours, even the rear tyre is good for a few more months.
So there was method in my madness, if it cannot handle a ride back across the Coromandel Ranges without mishap on a trailer, how is it going to behave when riding?
Somehow I have to get it back next week prior to everything closing for the holidays. I am thinking of hitching a ride after work from Te Aroha....
If you see me on the side of the road, please stop and offer me a lift...

All fixed, as I stated not a big issue. Was done promptly this morning. I cannot rate NV Motorcycles highly enough, nick sure gets onto things quickly!
New bulb in the main beam, looks like a new rear reflector and wiring sorted, good to go for the Summer. Wof done, $34, parts and labour $125 for lighting/wiring, 3 months registration $135 approx...
What I did notice was that as the new owner I am only liable for ANY reg due from the date of purchase. The seller decided to finally do change of ownership the day before he sold it, as it was over two months overdue 4/10/13, this doesn't get picked up by anyone? The LTSA said we cannot get it from you, we cannot get it from him? Weird?
So, buy a bike, wait for it to be sold by the owner, and then change the ownership whenever you want to? No....cannot be right as the seller has to input the new owners name and postal address.
Somehow, almost three months has escaped the system. Not my problem...

Last time I saw, yes, it's a gap. Plenty say it's an easy loophole, ie, let it lapse 11 months, then transfer to new person. Ta-da, no rego. I guess the more that use it, the quicker it will get tightened.
