A few shots fired by an A4 ground attack fighter across the bow of an errant trawler illegally fishing back in 76 / 77 had the desired effect. Where verbal warnings had failed. You never know when you need such capability and in an increasingly dangerous world who is to say we don't need at least some minimal deterrence capability?
you're right. the nation should totally invest in a geostationary defense sattelite with lasers and shit. space defenses man, space defense. gotta be forward thinking about this shit, those errant fishermen are bad news, B-A-D news.
i mean, fuck, they might have caught some of your fish!!!! zomg nooooo!,
and then you couldn't sell the fish to someone as quota, no profit! and after that it's all down hill isn't it!
so you accept that the problem is the governments. who are mostly old white gits, and profiteers, who are usually old white gits (gews, too)
but,
somehow,
the next lot of old white gits is going to make it all better?
Hey I just saw a nearing middle age white Aussie git on the news who wants to cripple dairying and the communities that feed off it. He knows that the term ''carbon tax'' is unpopular in his country so he has repackaged its name as a ''pollution tax.'' He is himself an imported pollutant, just as toxic as the INCEST MORON party.
NiceWell said.
Spending a fair amount of time in the air cadets when younger and also previously wanting to join the Airforce I was gutted when Helen axed skyhawks. Now the teachers don't have to run their cakestalls, just spend four hourts on phone everyday to NEVAPAY trying to sort their wages...
But I've seen the light since then, really no offence to anyone involved but our airforce was a joke really in terms of practical offensive or defensive capability for a number of reasons.
Firstly if you are doing proper maintenance and training rotations you need many squadrons of aircraft to have an effective force properly mission ready. And tehn factor in combat losses after first few missions... A couple dozen skyhawks parked out back like tui crates waiting for a party is actually a risk to the crews themselves. You only have to look at what the yanks pour intot heir training regimes and they are still not invincible.
And who are we going to strike or stop from striking??? In a world of economic sanctions and treatys a nation bordered by oceans is not really at any real risk.
About the only real targets our A4's were useful for would be if your cousin Iti and co actually were running real training camps in Ureweras.
We've probably saved kiwi lives by ditching the jets as murphys law and stats we would have prob lost a pilot or two in training accidents or airshow disasters in the time passed since then.
If anything we could retrofit tomahawk cruise missles to out frigates for some strike capability but just as expensive as jets. I don't know why with our kiwi know how we haven't got into the guided weapons market and develop our own stuff. Our colonial masters in UK should be able to get us a foot in the door and we already have the GPS guidance chips with that kiwi company whatstheriname...
... oi cant seem to multiple bling Akzle...it's a fukn conspiwacy...Wobert, yer dweamin',
mate...
Of course the socialist pacifists on this forum miss an important point. Australias security is also our security. We were making an important contribution and playing our part in assisting that regional security by having a detachment of strike aircraft deployed in Australia. Prior to it being callously removed because of some shonky and emotive pacifist motive.
I got that.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon
...we do have a large and infinitely varied shape and size, quantity of pointy sticks, as a bit of a fall back measure...![]()
Oh yes old Bruce from Tokoroa, poor bugger has had his wings clipped by the bigwigs at RC planes nz/CAA or whoever they call themselves.
His youtube vids are great for RC stuff.
I'm no socialist pacifist but really come on, Australia is plenty capable of defending itself in the short term and heavy backup from USA wouldn't be far away.
And if anyone invades Australia it would have to be a major player which means WW3 and game over planet earth anyway...
