    Every day on the motorway.

A car has stopped some will miss it some will hit it.
Getting sent to jail because someones not paying attention just seems a bit harsh.
I ride in on the southernmost days.
Very few days there is not a stationary vehicles somewhere. That is not counting 50, otherwise it would be no days.

Stupid phone / Tapatalk, apologies in advance.

Not "blaming" the rider, but I do think there's a lesson in there for some of us (me too), and it does indicate a need for balance.
    +1

Horrible accident!...poor lady having to watch her daughter & husband die infront of her...but speed does seem to be a factor...simply put, she wasn't speeding and managed to dodge the car....he was possibly speeding...and did not

...a Silly place to stop a car granted...but we as riders, must expect the unexpected, and we must ride with a margin of safety to survive other people's "mistakes"...failure to do so...usually results in another rider down thread...and another heart broken family

    ...such a sad read tho

Breaking down in the middle of the road

A couple of months ago, on a group ride, a Ducati in front of me came to a very sudden stop in the middle of the road. His front brake had jammed on. It took several people to drag the bike off the road. The rider had done his own maintenance on the front brake and apparently not got it quite right.

This sort of thing can't be common, but it does happen.

    Two questions -
    where was the car stopped?
what was the rider doing, traffic observational wise...?

Well it must of been stopped mid lane other wise the bike could of avoided it.

often these accidents happen when you check your blind spot, look over ur shoulder then look back to normal to realize the car in front has emergency stopped
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

On first hearing this story I felt sorry for the car driver, she had no ill will and only wanted to do a good deed.
Then I read the Dompost version today which stated she stopped her car in the FAST lane, got out and started herding the ducklings off the motorway. Why the hell didn't she pull over to the shoulder at the very least! Like anyone with half a brain would do.
    So I blame her. But...

The flip side is she was out walking around herding BEFORE the rider hit her car. Which means she never did a sudden panic brake that caught the following traffic by surprise. If her car was stationary for a period of time, then no excuses for the rider not to have seen it in ample time to slow or change lanes. Also I'm no saint when it comes to speeding on my bike but NEVER with a pillion, let alone your own child!

    So I blame the rider

Final analysis, I blame the mother duck for poor parenting. Probably at bingo.

In the end the punishment should reflect the level of criminal intent or the persons knowledge of how their actions would cause harm - she was dumb not to think leaving a car in the fast lane was safe. But she had no intent to do harm. Compare that to drunken bums screaming around in boy racer cars in populated suburbs slapped with a wet bus ticket. Pleased I'm not the judge tormented by this case.

A lady was killed in Christchurch several years ago when her car was rear ended by a truck after she stopped to alow some ducks to cross the road, truck driver was checking his mirror to merge when he hit her, he was prosecuted for it

Shows how dangerous those Ducks are, it could be a global conspiracy

Maybe Canada's road laws are a bit different than ours but seems to me the biker was in the wrong.

Bikers should have been able to stop, that is the law. Driver should not have stopped.

No one should have died here, bad skills all round.
