After Holden kicked off by putting a 6 into a stretched Viva and calling it a Torana, Aussies went through a phase of putting 6's into what would normally be a 4 cyl chassis. Chrysler put the 215 Valiant Hemi into a Simca, sold as the Chrysler Centura. I did see one in the metal while working at a Chrysler dealer in Lower Hutt. Dunno if it was any good, but imagine if they had taken it to the obvious conclusion and put an E49 in
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

If any of you is a budding P76 fan, I had a good perve at a 2600 jobbie last year in Porirua. Reg & WOF and parked outside a supermarket.

The wagon and coupe never made it to production - mores the pity.

    Still, $50 of 91 every 5 - 6 weeks compensates a bit.

    aparently they were...

In addition to the sedan, a coupe, the Force 7, was also developed, featuring a genuine hatchback, no less. Rather oddly proportioned for its size and intended mission, the Force 7 was aborted after some sixty or so were built. Of those all but eight or nine were sent straight to the crusher. The remaining eight were auctioned off, and spend their happy and pampered lives appearing at car shows. Must keep the memory alive.

That many coupes were made? I would love to feast my eyes on one - bugger all chance though.

As an aside: The P76 has its own fan club still. http://www.leylandp76club.org.nz

As a prelude to the P76, a viability study, the Aussies put a Rover V8 into a Landcrab - it looked pretty stock. That'd be a real sleeper to be driving on saturday night.

And if I recall correctly, the Aussies were the first to produce the IL6 landcrab.

Wouldn't mind a Wolseley Six or 18/22 (wedge) in the stable.

Not as much as the V12.....

Mate had one of the rare V12 Jag coupes. In the course of working on it discovered that the inlet manifolds stud spacing suited 2 inch SU's as well as the std 1 1/2 inch strombergs or solexes, and the manifolds were sized for the 2 inch carbs... Naturally he tried the SU's. Markedly faster - MUCH faster...
But, he reported that on a very fast pass up the South Eyre road, you could actually see the fuel gauge drop....
