Be interestiong to see just how you fit em to the vl1500 Daja47, you have had a peep at the plumbing on the C90 I assume, I suspect it aint just a matter of bolting em on ....
The collection box where the O2 sensor goes, comes out along with everything else from the heads back. You get supplied a new bracket where the top and bottom mufflers attach at the back.You take the studs out where the pipes bolt to the exhaust mainifold and replace with 30mm stainles M8 cap screws. The O2 sensor gets wound up and left under the seat or the tank and you cut or disconnect the brown and black wire going into the 23rd port in the ECU board. That apparently tricks the computer into thinking everything is still connected and it stops your FI warning light coming on. I have diagrams of this if anyone needs them. The weight of the original exhaust system is far heavier than the V&H and should give more ground clearance as well. Hope to get them done this week.

I assume you will need to reset the ECU so it remeasure the new mixture etc ??
I've found that there's a similar "fix" for the M50 running V&H pipes (as mine is). As I understand it, you either leave the actual sensor attached (but reading fresh air, so not sure how that affects the running - it will be "expecting" to be reading exhaust), or snip the harness (on the M50 it's a different wire, but the same in principle). Again, not sure how this affects the running - does the ECU think it's reading 100% O2 in the exhaust, or 0% O2. And again, how does this affect the running? I think I'll try the former, so I don't have to cut the harness. Maybe it doesn't really matter as I can adjust it with the Cobra FI2000R unit I'm running.
I'm running with the O2 sensor disconnected and the FI light on the dash on for the last week, and it runs fine, although when you rev it at a standstill, it blows a little bit of black smoke - but the settings on the Cobra are as recommended for aftermarket pipes.
What intake are you running? The popular cheap mod on the M50 is to drill holes in or cut out the bottom of the air cleaner assembly on the RHS of the engine - once I have the pipes sorted, I think I'll try it. According to various specs, the standard M50 puts out 45bhp and the HD 1200 Nightster puts out 55BHP![]()
Johhny Flash, the guy in ChCh took his bike into the Suzuki agent and they used a Teka SF1 re-mapping module. They plug it in, re-map, then remove it. He also put a KN filter on but that is not essential. He is quite confident he will get a warrant on the sound side. I should have mine on this week. When I fire it up at work in Albany, I hope you don't hear it from your place. Should be fine. I will let you know.
I had Wgtn M/Cs help me with my V&H Cruzers; they welded a pipe with one flute in it, so at high speed, it pushes the gases towards the absorption material in the baffle (in theory). It's taken the edge off, so the pipes are still quite loud but not generally offensive. Previously, when I opened it up, people 100m away would turn to see what was making all the noise. Although the guys at Wgtn M/Cs thought the pipes were okay to begin with, I'm really happy. I don't think I'll have any trouble getting WoFs or hassle from the man.
They did mention that it's a good ideal to keep the O2 sensor, so I'll weld a nut on behind the rear exhaust port and put the sensor there. I'm a bit sick of the FI light staying on.

Forgot to mention: The Cruzers have a much bigger diameter baffle. The cross sectional area of clear space inside is huge, effectively straight through. The Straightshots are much narrower so your options for quietening them down without losing performance are much less.
Yup, saw that. It's not the same wire on the C50/M50 but the principle is the same. I'm going to try putting the sensor back on; All I have to lose is a mint set of Cruzers![]()
I got the Vance and Hines Pipes on to day without any hassles. Everything lined up nicely and I am very pleased with the look. Having a stud removal socket made a big difference. Fired the beast up and she certainly puts out some noise but not too much. Sounds like a big Cruiser should in my opinion. When throttling down the exhaust "pops" alot but when she goes in for the 1000 k check next week, I'll get it re-mapped and I am sure that will sort it out as it will be running too lean at the moment. I left work in Albany and rode out through Riverhead and back out West to try it out. It may be the sound but it certainly appears much more responsive. Taking the old system off I found it weighed close to 28 -30 kilos. That would be more than twice the weight of the new pipes. The one thing I can't work out is that I disconnected the wiring from the O2 sensor and removed the sensor from the Pre-muffler. I removed the pre-muffler collection box with the rest of the original hardware. Wound the wiring up with the sensor in a couple of plastic bags and re-connected the plug in wiring. Tied it up and tucked it away under the seat. The advice I had was that at that point the FI light would come on when I fired it up, but it didn't. I was told that I would have to cut the brown and black wire going into the 23rd port(5th down on the right) on the ECU board to stop the the FI warning light coming on. When I turn the ignition on the light shows up with the others, but on starting, it goes. No doubt the service guys will sort it out but it all appears ok. I checked with the service dept and they said it wouldn't hurt to keep running it until the service. Hope to get that last 100 K up this weekend.![]()

Had a good ride back to Orewa from the shop - George got soaked with no wet weather gear, jeans and his wife's mirror visor. Had it open all the way home - water ran down his neck inside his jacket. I was snug 'n' warm all the way.![]()
Nice one DaJa47..Yep usually gain a few horses extra after changing pipes and also increasing the aspiration ( air filter change) according to a USA report I read the C90 was basically detuned to meet the local regulations & emmission control, the engine naturally has much more HP, with far better aspiration / exhaust pressures available without all the emmission control stuff.....Sounds like a remap of the ECU should sort the tuning ...

They sound good. Anything sounds a bit loud after the standard gear. Hope to get out tomorrow as the weekend is looking good. Young George was always going to get wet the other day with the gear he had on and that torrential rain.. When you fired that bike of yours up and it blasted me in the face, it was a preview of the Thunder and lightening to come. That last blast of lightening got George by surpriseWas good catching up John.
