BRONZ are watching the effect of the early start time, to see how significant it is. They also are being hard worded by the cops (who actually suggested that such events should start at 7am !).

For the Toy Run, we just told them to piss off, said we would start at our advertised time, and the police weren't involved, well, that was up to them.

We are road users too, and just as much entitled to use the road for transport as anyone else.

I just hope that the affect on numbers is not too damaging. This is one charity that has all too close a connection with motorcycling and unlike you, few of those who cannot make it this time, will make a separate donation.
Sad times indeed. I recall some talk after last years ride...there were some complaints from the travelling public re being held up for a while. As Ixion has already pointed out, this ride was the first time I have ever been hurried up past 120 in a 50 area by the police! The magic of racing through the bottom of Auckland city by the establishment has to be experienced to be believed.

I support the Westpac Helicopter any chance I get, we live out of Auckland, and if we are really sick, we get the helicopter ride to hospital, we can get there faster than Aucklanders by ambulance on the road!!!

Best of luck to the ride organisers, I too fear that the fundraising will be well down on previous years, not from a lack of support, but from the lack of desire for some to get up in the dark!

Dont mean to be pedantic but I thought it was a "privalege" rather than an entitlement... (sp)

    Post briefing briefing

    Briefing BRIEFING

Arrive by 8:00am Sunday the 24th February 2008. (THIS IS THE RIGHT TIME AND DATE)Have a coffee
Start time 9:00 SHARP!!!!!! On to the motorway heading north Motor bikes in the fast lane and when all the scooters are on the motorway also the lane next to the fast lane, SCOOTERS your lane is the one next to the fast lane, allowing the larger bikes to keep up with the front of the ride. There will be cars in left lane and they will have to merge when there is not 3 lanes (Mt Wellington over bridge), this can't be avoided. Share the road nicely and play nice as the video cameras are on and running RECORDING so you muck up you will be BUSTED!!!!!
At Penrose start moving into lanes 1 & 2 . Merge with care & consideration to other traffic. By Newmarket over bridge you should be in the left lanes Greenlane & Gilles Ave on ramps will be closed to all traffic.
Turn off a Wellesley St off ramp and go straight to Queen St through the Bus only lane , down Queen St, left into Custom St , on to Fanshawe St & back on to the motorway keeping to the left lanes and the clip-on. Take Akaranga Off ramp and in to the Campus car park. Don't fuckup this ride
