    So...

    Wassup for this weekend?

We're having a BBQ at home Sunday from 4pm so I need to be back then and anyone that follows me home gets fed as well

    Anyone been into Lake Otuhie?

The Turimawiwi is the last ford, after the Anatori, on the way south to the Kahurangi lighthouse.

Google Earth shows the lighthouse and hut area, and Big River, quite well. The lighthouse itself is photographed from above, so is difficult to see, but casts a good shadow. If you lower the eye height and tilt the view for a fly-by, the seaside cliffs are presented well... but the lighthouse has no height!!

East Takaka Rd is worth doing... once. Totaranui Road... which might make a half-decent overnighter for the top-o-the-south crew.

Yes; my last few Easters (and likely many more to come) were spent camped at Sandhills Creek. There's caves in them thar hills! Kayaking up to the lake is possible when the creek has a good water level. The lake is on private property AFAIK and the farm roads are not worth the trouble of arranging access, especially compared to the road around Whanganui Inlet and the section from the Anatori to the Turimawiwi. Some rock climbing up towards the lake, routes mostly put up by cavers having a day off. See the back of the Paynes guide.
    Cheers,
    Colin

    Too many choices

Was having issues today wondering where to go for a ride, and couldn't think of anywhere i hadn't been recently. Reading the last few threads there are many many places left to explore, although might just head over Poriko down into the lake to test me new front tyre on slippery downhill. Then Braburn and lunch in Murch.

Was going to go back through Poriko but did maruia track for the first time, nice ride. Gave new tyre a good test on dry roads ,wet roads, gravel, mud ,thick snow, ice and rocks. Never fell off so it was a good choice. Couldn't believe the snow up there and I thought it was summer.

Thank you all (except Warewolf) for the info.

I may be loitering around your area on the 23rd if anyone wants to go for a ride.

is Nelson - Antatori - Nelson a viable day ride?

This is sounding more and more interesting. Might have to load the bike up and go for a ride one day. Anybody who rides wanna try rock climbing? I need an anchor to belay me thought, we often have to tie wifey to the ground.
