I'm still learning mate. It's nice to see others progress in confidence/ability over the years. Some of us oldies can learn a bit from noobs at times believe it or not.

Work use? Maybe... Only so I could make sure I was on the other side of town when a ride is on and I am working.....

Gotta take issue here on this one... It is why it is called a hidden danger - it can spring up 10 feet in front of ya.

I know of a Roadking getting surprised by a kid leaping out of a ditch, Both ended up in hospital but the kid was worse off...) a wild boar trotting out of the bush right in front of another biker, not to mention the odd hawk scoffing out on roadkill, camoflaged in the long grass.... just to name a few.....

For no other reason that your post reminded me of a moment, having fun on a twisty backwater road in the distance saw a tractor,no problem i thought and went about preparing to go round it,my prep turned to shite when i saw that it was towing the widest set of discs ive ever seen in my life

I know of a GSX600 Katana rider that got stained underwear after a goat jumped out of a ditch 10 metres in front of him north of Tauramanui beside the waterfalls... Knew the road really well, but there was this one occasion that it could have all gone pear shaped......

Okay, I may have been there... and I was under the speed limit...
Lesson is, it could have been too fast for the hidden danger.

    I'm with you on that.

They don't have to be hidden or you "speeding" either. Had a blind dog decide to run in front of me when I was at only travlling at about 10kph. Could easily have broken a bone or two, even been knocked out if I'd dropped the bike.

the point I was making was paying attention to what is happening around you.

I am constantly surprised at the ammount of 'i went into a corner and gravel just appeared'
There is always an exception to the rule but in alot of cases, paying attention to where your bike is going to be in the time it takes to stop will avoid the hidden part of the hidden danger.

shit CAN happen at any speed.
a neck can be broken fallin off a chair.
we just have to be as careful as the conditions allow.
2 k's faster and the goat and blind dog wouldn't have even got to the road.

A perfect example is the driveway being passed at 4'09''.

The road curves slightly to the left and goes up over a slight brow. Immediately before the driveway is a hedge and then a stand of trees. I refuse to believe that marty had a clear view of the driveway or that anyone coming out of the driveway would have a clear view of a very rapidly approaching motorcycle.

It's this sort of shit that kills motorcyclists.

The dog was already on the road hence my reduced speed. I didn't know it was blind, no white cane you see. That was the hidden surprise.

Done something similar, Out on a country road, having a barrel of fun, see a tractor a few hundred metres ahead, no worries, I hold my speed, get closer, notice he is towing a freaking ute,no worries, Nearly caught up with him, just as I wind her on to pass he pulls out onto the opposite side of the road and passes another bigger tractor, I had just wound the old cow up, the road has disappeared and I'm about to go under the back of a ute being towed by a damn tractor doing 15km/h.

So, Its back of tractor A with mean mowing attachment, Back of Tractor B towing ute, or Plan C, Off the brakes, hit the gas and power the HD though the roadside ditch and back onto the road in front of the tractors, The drivers of which are having a chat to each other as they block the entire road, As I spit the dummy swearing like fuck, giving them the finger and shaking my fist they both look a little bemused by the twit on the bike who suddenly appeared and give me a friendly wave...

That's the thing about country folk, Friendly to a fault.
