imagine how cool that would be if we ended up with our own club coz we grew so big, treasurer, president, secretary - he he that would be fun, we could do newletters and everything!

With the carpark thing for learning emegency breaking on I guess we would want something sealed so it's actually like being on the road. I thought concrete might be a bit slippery?
Were are those winning numbers for lotto again..... Having to sell all your toys sucks

Very good point on the surface thing not so sure about a club and all, its nicer that we are just like minded individuals who meet up to share a common passion.

Anyways, i am off for defensive driving ttfn

Wow! I miss so much on here while I'm at work....Interesting discussion.

I would also be keen on some practice in a carpark or the like.

As for the laxed out rides Krissy and I will have our own party at the back of the pack so that's no worries ...then we can tell ya all about it when we finally arrive at a checkpoint. By then we should have found 3rd gear

I've run a bunch of learner rides, and the group theory NEVER works on the road.
group teaching is fine on the track, but on the road is simply does not work.

one-on-one is the only way to go, if it is advice or education you're after.

if one of the developing riders asked me to guide or comment then I would hang back with the other rider, and not worry about where the group is riding.

If it is development you want, then the route taken is of very little consequence.
Previously, when I have run one-on-one days I have decided on a time and destination at the end of the day (like at the pub ) then the pair (one learner, one teacher) split off, and do there own learning without the pressure of other bikes around them.
Then everyone can meet at the end of the day, and swap stories.

Sunday for me was just a blat around south waikato roads .. it was not organised as a learning environment at all, so I didn't treat it as such .. and of course this was the first time meeting most of you, so you probably pegged me as some kinda paedophile sporting a wierdo moustache .. fear not .. the moustache is coming off at the end of the month :P

I've taught a few people to ride, and at least one those riders is now a better rider than me, it just takes commitment from the person wanting to learn.

If you actually want some one to comment on skills / techniques / etc then ask around. Most experienced riders love talking about what they know, and what they can do.
Just remember to take advice with "a pinch of salt" .. just because I say something doesn't mean it is gospel .. I talk shyte too y'know
I agree with TA i have been riding for a fair few years now and if any of the developing riders would like some help then i am more than happy to help out weather it be with just advice or hanging back and riding at a more sedate pace to suit you guys, you dont get if you dont ask

About the group ridin' thing, the only 2 group rides I've done have been with you lot & I've been ridin on the road since I was 17 (now 29, man I'm old!) so I wasn't tooo sure how I'd stack up. I learnt heaps from follown guys like Squid & Ian (tl1ooos?). The only thing I could add is "find your rhythm". It dont matter how how fast you go, when things fall into place its the most fun you can have with your clothes on. LOL. Well it works for me. All I gotta do now is get my very own bike, if only to stop munta nagging me.

I really liked the kawhia road myself but i would suggest approaching all roads like you have never ridden them, i think quasi menitioned something about that "tractor parked on the blind corner" earlier (100s of posts ago).

All doped up on painkillers now, don't expect coherence.
Mr koz your above comment is very sensible which surprises me but i agree with it and i am willing to help anybody who wants it the other option is to fit your cam to other riders so that they can learn from it aswell just a thought

If someone wants to be recorded on my little camera, just tell me and we can sus it out, then you have video to show someone and say "how did i do" Next trick is to get footage of me so i can do the same.
bolt the cam on shrek and ill follow you man it helps having an ugly bike behind u

Sounds like we're on a roll now.

I would love to ask people for help but often don't know what I'm doing wrong. When you're this fresh you often don't know what things to ask people to work on or for them to look at. As for help on corners is a bit general but that's just my opinion. When you get to know people you become ok with asking them stupid things without felling like a nob

Oh and apparently Brooke comment about the club was sarcasm. Not even I picked up on that one!

Some pretty cool comments & advice from all on this thread. Years ago I didn't 'ride my own ride' & was keeping up with the big boys until, while trying to catch up, badly misjudged a 35 k corner , stood the bike up, locked up, & straight into a large flax bush . Fortunately the only thing dented was my pride. Not a single mark on the bike ........anywhere... or me. Very good lesson 4 me about riding within your own limits and riding your own ride. Awesome to see others in this group recognise this . Away 5 6 7 with Boyds on Far north trip , so can't make C & B. Looking foward to riding again with you guys again sumtime.
If you don't know where you are going , any road will get you there ............

i think we all know each other well enough now to ask questions without looking like a nob and generally anyone whos into bikes does not mind answering questions about anything
