    Unacceptable customer service!

three weeks ago i tootled into local tony jury m/c shop, asked for pricing on a set of sport demons.
all lovely and ready to deliver at the price of $169.00 and $238.00 incl g.s.t.
i put down $260.00 and then paid for the rear to be fitted.
i got an invoice in the mail,
rear tire $260.00 excl g.s.t, front tire $169.00 excl g.s.t
right? so i rung them and got that sorted and my account was re-credited and then i wasnt aware of what the tires actually cost.
i kept putting payments towards the fron untill today, i ring yesterday and say "hey mate, how much do i owe on the front tire?"
replys "hey you are $57.99 in credit...."
sweeeeet, i booked the bike in and droped her off this morning. went to pick the bike up and "the fitting was $34.20, you owe us $92.12 before you can take the bike home"
i ask why and they said "you were $57.99 [or there ish] in debit"
    WTF?
i hadnt transefered any money into my spending account as i was lead to believe i was in CREDIT!
so mr head mech started accusing me of trying to pull a fast one when i brought up THEIR mistake. i didnt enjoy being accused and wanted my bike NOW! so i told them to fit the front tire that was on the bike before and give me a refund [i was being very harrased by this wanker] he laughed at me and told me im trying to get a tire for free, i pointed out that they led me to believe i was in CREDIT NOT F**KING DEBIT. he continued to blame this on me for not having the money that i was not told to have....
i got very frustrated when he refused to give me a refund.
i got on the bike [old tire back on] and went to see a lawyer for free legal advice [thanks fiona for the chat]
i found out that yes i was in the right and yes this guy was being immature about their mistake. meanwhile my darling mother had rung them and said they are legally bound to give me a refund.
i went down the shop and got what i had payed towards the front tire back and i got a nice apology.

now tell me what you think? is that arrogant and pathetic or am i just a gnats nudger?

Well done DukeLover, - sounds like a disorganised shop taking advantage of a young Fell - well done with sorting it out!

In future get them to do written quotes, and document everything, that is if you are going to continue to use them of course, mind you that applies to nearly anywhere unless you really trust them.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

Some folks seem to forget the old rule one pissed of customer can lose you 10 potential customers.

Sounds like and outfit here in Christchurch, wont name names but they are the agents for the bikes you love.

I no longer have any expectations when it comes to any type of service in NZ. It really is appalling. In just the last week and a bit...

    1) My 5 year old dishwasher broke down. A week later and they tell me they don't have a replacement part but they can sell me a new dishwasher. I told them where to go.

    2) 2 brand new mountain bikes. One had a hunting problem with the gear change and the other ones disc brake was sticking. Dropped them off and was told it would be at least 2 weeks before they can look at them. 2 weeks?

    3) My 12 month old watch stopped dead. I took it into the NZ agent in Auckland to replace the battery and they said it will take 6 - 8 weeks... What? Apparently they have to send it to Switzerland. Note: this actually happened in Nov and I'd forgotten about it until I rang them on Monday. "We don't know sir." What?

    4) Telecom reduced my internet speed because I backed up some movies. I rang them to up my cap but they couldn't do it over the phone and asked me to wait for 5 minutes. I hung up. Orcon is really good now.

    5) Booked my car into panel beaters to fix a small dent. Turned up and had arranged for a friend to drop me back home. The panel beater says, nah too busy today. What?

    6) Got some new taps a few months ago and the damn plumber broke the monsieur (sp) It's like a filter which softens the water so it doesn't splash everywhere. Not a biggie but they've got no idea and can't be bothered following it up. This is german brand, not some warehouse brand.

    Not bad eh.

What brand MTBs, and which shop? Presumably you're looking to get it done under warranty?

Aside from that, I've started using Bike Central in Britomart Place. Best bike shop in town, IMHO, and I've been a customer of most of them at one time or another.

Battery? Heh. Four years on, I really do like my Citizen Eco-Drive.
