I'm rooted weekend wise for all of March so its either tag it onto the King Country Ride or go up early April...

Maybe - leave early on a Saturday and slab it up to Stratford for lunch then up 43 then right onto Ohura Rd - Mangaotuku Rd - Mangaehu Rd - Upper Mangaehu Rd to Aotuhia then out to Whangamomona via Whangamomona Rd and stay at the pub on Sat night. They do a good feed there

I'm sure there would be fun things to do on Sunday on the way home....
There appears to be at least 8 bikes travelling up from Wellington for the King Country ride -
andy mac, aslan, BMWRSNUT, Garry W, junkmanjoe, Kslider, marks, paladin.
Apologies if I've missed anyone. I presume we are all making it into a 4 day weekend?

I suggest on Friday we ride Howie's recent route thru Marton, Turakina Valley Rd, Whangaehu River Rd to middle of SH4.

Then K slider's track to Matahiwi & the upper Wanganui River Rd to Raetihi.

Back roads thru Ruatiti, Riamiki, Upper Retaruke, Kawautahi, Hikumutu to Taumarunui (this looks interesting)
Ongarue, Kopaki, Mangaokewa Gorge, Te Kuiti, Otorahanga.

After the KCR, Owhango, Kawautahi, Kirikau Te Maire, to Whangamomona pub on Sunday night, exploring the area before heading south on Monday.

    Any other suggestions?
    Cheers Andy

Point taken it will be a big day in the saddle 550+ km. We can thrash out the route details later.

We should decide if we are coming home via Whangamomona?Dinner/bed/breakfast at the pub is $110 pp.

I've got Friday and Monday off so works for me Andy. KSlider and I already have Sunday night booked at Taumaranui but I guess we could change that to Whangamomona (if there's beds). Was just thinking of just running back down the river from Ratahei on Monday but open to any and all suggestions on the day. I'm limited to around 230kms before I need gas, never been a problem but can carry an extra 5L if necessary. Where and when do you want to meet up on the Friday morning?

Been doing the logistics and it looks like - No

    $500 for fuel/ferry/accomodation.
    $300 for new sprockets/chain.

Sprockets and chain have only got 5-600km left in them.

I'd even bought a sleeping bag and inflatable mattress just for this ride.

May have to test them out down Big River/Denniston/Napoleons etc instead.

Try and have fun without me anyway.
